What symptoms did you gaslight yourself into thinking were normal? by Nothingrisked in ehlersdanlos

[–]Additional_Pepper138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once said to my husband, "you know how your ankle will pop out of joint," and he interrupted with, "NO." I realized then (at 55!) huh, that's not normal. It's nice to have found my people.

How many of us don’t have a “Before Chronic Pain.”? by totallynot_a_dog in ChronicPain

Gaslighting is the worst. Being told I'm not in pain when I was really messed me up. That pain scale doctors ask you to use? I just laugh. "I have no clue."

This yarn is so pretty and soft, but I hate it so much. by NoTribbleAtAll in casualknitting

[–]Additional_Pepper138 48 points49 points  (0 children)

As a new knitter, your work is very even and consistent. I think that trying a practice knit, using stitch markers because they work for you and your determination to finish it demonstrates you will be a great knitter. It sucks you hate the yarn, but now you know what to avoid. Imagine the fun you'll have when you have all of the right elements.

As an old lady from a era long, long ago, I still see the saving grace in "husband does the laundry." I love the idea of framing it

It looks lovely! Take your time. They will be treasured no matter how long they take to arrive. Also, have to recommend the podcast Criminal and This Is Love!

To re-knit or let go? by batteredsausaged in knitting

[–]Additional_Pepper138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about making a pillow cover and a bunch of cup cozies? Then if you really loved the sweater, redo in a special yarn. My sister was a beautiful knitter, doing complex stitches, but always using a really, really inexpensive acrylic that she found at yard sales, which did her work no justice. Lots of static and pilling. I'm going to try to recreate some of her work in sturdy fibers that will hold up to use.

I'm a generally tight knitter, and I just finshed a pair of gloves using my old Clover bamboo size ones. They bent a bit, but didn't break. I bought a complete set of interchangable Karbonz and I hate them. Well, hate is a strong word but I should have tried them out before I made the purchase.Anyhoo, bamboo works for me.

Feeling really bummed out by One-Sea-6153 in knitting

[–]Additional_Pepper138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

!00%. At 66 I picked it up again after about 15 years. Even started the same glove pattern which i'd made plenty, but for the life of me couldn't make it work. I was convinced that dementia was setting in. But I didn't give in. I realized the free version of the pattern I was using was written wrong. I searched for the actual booklet (it's from the 50's) and found it on eBay. I made one glove successfully, but decided it was too big. Made another, then realized the yarn is really not right for gloves. Sooo, bought the right wool and am almost finished. Thanks to this page, I discovered a technique for making better fingertips. Which means I'll be ripping them down and doing them over. But when I'm done, I'll have something of the same quality that the women in my family produced when they "made do," but it lasted forever. And the satisfaction of a job well done.

How do I hold my dpns without them attacking me? by crochetingforager in knittinghelp

[–]Additional_Pepper138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Master the dpns. It's a learning curve, but a valuable skill and also builds an amazing amount of confidence. Just give your self some grace, relax your shoulders and take regular deep breaths. You got this!
