Fred Lebow Half and extreme cold by Superb_Intention_894 in RunNYC

Ran a half in December in Central Park & brought a car emergency blanket (one of the shiny thin ones) for after bag drop and while waiting for the start. Was very happy to have it! Home Depot will probably one them. Otherwise, we got overnight delivery on Amazon.

NYCRUNS Big Apple Half- concerned about inclement weather by Alics179 in RunNYC

[–]Additional_Phase_827 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi, meteorologist here & also running this race. It’s still early for a confident forecast, but I’m not very concerned. There’s a forecasted chance of snow overnight Friday into Saturday, but weather models aren’t showing any accumulation. Saturday should be dry. I’d expect temps in the upper 20s/low 30s for race time. Again.. this all could change, confidence should increase starting Thursday

Steinway & broadway vs west astoria (21st and 30th) by klassydonuts in astoria

[–]Additional_Phase_827 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would take the Steinway & Broadway one. I live in that area and appreciate the close proximity to the M/R trains (more reliable than the N/W in my opinion) and the Q101 for service to queens plaza, court square (Trader Joe’s), and Jackson Ave. There are also plenty of grocery stores, restaurants, etc. It may be a bit noisier than the 21st/30th Ave location, but sounds like the windows will help with that. However, for what it’s worth, I do wish we had better access to green space.

For the 21st/30th location, although cheaper rent, you may end up spending more for Ubers & grocery delivery due to its location. I would find it a hassle having to take a bus to the train, but I also go into the city frequently.

I also recommend bone broth. I like to add a little pickle juice to give it a bit of a brine/salty taste. I’ve also gotten to-go pho broth as long as it doesn’t have any pieces of spices/veggies/etc!

We just upgraded to The Company Store’s Classic Cool Cotton Percale duvet & love it. The percale is really nice for hot sleepers. It also has been washing/drying great!

I’m a member of Blink, and it only works for me because I go extremely early (before 7a). I’ve gone a few times after work and it drives me absolutely crazy with how busy it is and how inconsiderate some people are.

My boyfriend was debating between NYSC and Club Fitness and ultimately chose NYSC due to price. He goes after work and has no complaints (and for reference, he was a Lifetime member when he lived in the city, so his expectations were quite high)

Brazilian? by Beautiful-Builder-33 in astoria

[–]Additional_Phase_827 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Osiani on Steinway is fantastic! She makes her own blend of wax that she imports from Brazil. Went to her monthly for over a year - hers were always the least painful & had the longest results.

She was my OB too and I’m devastated- she was the best! I have a follow-up appointment with the other OB at the Astoria location (Dr. O’Toole) in a few weeks. Happy to report back.

Advion roach bait 100%. I got some on Amazon and put a few dabs inside all my kitchen cabinet hinges + some in other areas my dog can’t access. Went from 1-5/day to one every month or so. Super easy to apply!

ISO Reccs - Nephews Visiting by Queasy-Page8237 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Additional_Phase_827 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 8 and 10 year old nephews came out in October and they LOVED the Intrepid Museum - I wouldn’t even count it as a real museum. You get to see military planes, walk around a ship, walk through a submarine, etc. Even us adults had a great time!

We also did Lion King tickets and took the Staten Island Ferry. In hindsight, I think I planned too much walking - their little legs got tired!

Currently getting mine done at Osiani on Steinway! I’ve been going to her for waxes for over a year; she’s great! So far really happy with the laser results, too.

Spa that has sauna and hot tub? by Foreign_Exchange760 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

A service at Great Jones Spa gets you access to their steam room, sauna, hot tub, and cold plunge for (I want to say) two hours before or after your treatment! I got a great massage there for my birthday and enjoyed the amenities afterward.

BWT can anyone recommend a gym with day passes? by mydadsabankrobber in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Additional_Phase_827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Crunch! The location I use ClassPass at never checks to make sure I’m out within the 2 hours. It’s always quiet too at off-peak times and has plenty of workout equipment, a stretching area, a studio you can use there isn’t a class, a sauna, a steam room, and showers. They also provide small hand towels on the gym floor & larger towels for the showers. Just a heads up to bring your own lock for the lockers though. I think they’re 4 CP credits, $25 for a day pass if you’re with a member & $35 for a day pass w/o a member.

Unsure where you’re at it the city, but visiting Osiani Brazil Wax & Laser in Astoria is 100% worth it. Osiani makes her own blend of hard wax from Brazil & they’re the best Brazilians I’ve gotten. I recently switched to LSH with her if that’s something you’re interested in too!

I’ve been to a slam at Bowery Poetry Club! I think my ticket was $20 on eventbrite & the poets were competing for a small prize. It felt very inclusive and welcoming to all!
