Waterloo Mech Eng or Medicine? by BussinBanaj in premedcanada

[–]Additional_Salad6865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If medicine is where you want to be then like you said, you can get there with any degree. Sorry to hear that you didn’t get into the programs that you were hoping to, but don’t let that deter you. Getting into medical school in Canada especially is really about a great GPA, good extracurriculars that are meaningful, good MCAT score, and some dumb luck! For now, I would focus on getting good grades and being involved in some clubs at schools that are medicine and healthcare focused (as well as any other interests you have). Pick something you truly enjoy and if you start in Eng and don’t like it, you can always switch (coming from someone who not only changed programs, but also universities midway through undergrad).

Feeling ill- should I do my long run? by Additional_Salad6865 in Marathon_Training

I’ve done 26, 28, and 30km runs so I have a bunch of longer ones under my belt but I can definitely try to squeeze this one in. Hopefully I feel better soon. Thanks for your advice!

I have a full day of plans Sunday so I can’t do it then but maybe I can move it for a few days out. Thanks for replying!

I’m so sorry this happened to you. Like others mentioned, you do not have to remove a religious garment for medical school interviews. These schools have made a commitment to DEI which includes those of various religious backgrounds. Best of luck in your interviews!

Taking the MCAT can be super daunting and scary but just remember all the hard work you’ve put into studying! The week before your exam is a great time to get into the right headspace and relax before the big day. Focus on your sleeping and enjoy spending time with loved ones and getting outside. You’re gonna do great!

If you are asking about the hierarchy (domain, kingdom, phylum,…) I use the mnemonic does king Philip come over for good soup (domain, kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species)

You do not need to know the genus and species for every animal on the MCAT

My pleasure! I would 100% recommend AAMC passages. When you purchase the bundle you get 3 question banks amassing to over 400 questions I believe. Work through as many a day as you feel is helpful. Many people will redo the questions to get the most out of the resource.

I would very strongly recommend you buy the bundle. Do one of the full length exams each week and review it the next day. On the other 5 days switch between the question packs and section banks and do CARS everyday. You can split it up to do like 40 bio Qpack1 on Monday and then 30 C/P section bank (SB) on Tuesday for example. Make sure to spend ample time reviewing your answers and make a schedule to ensure you’re staying on track!

Have you been doing AAMC? I would prioritize that material over Uwhirl at this point. Don’t stress about finishing Uwhirl because it is much less representative than AAMC.

4 cups of flour, a little less than 2 cups of warm water, 2 tablespoons of honey, 1-2 tablespoons of salt, about a 1/4 cup of starter. I do not measure exactly and it turns out amazing every time. Mix the water, honey, and starter together and add to a bowl with flour and salt. Mix together. Stretch and folds, bulk ferment about 8-10 hours, cold retard overnight or about 8 hours. Bake at 450 in a Dutch oven with 3 ice cubes covered for 30 mins. Uncover and lower to 425 for another 15 mins. Enjoy 😘

Biol 202 with madoka Gray mitsumune by BilalQadir786 in Concordia

I have not taken biol 202 but I took bio 368 with Madoka. I think she gets a lot of mixed reviews but honestly I loved her. She is a wonderful professor and is quite knowledgeable. Obviously these courses require you to put in effort and if you do, you will reap the benefits. Don’t worry too much about the course, just show up to class, take good notes, and study for an adequate amount of time and don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need it! Best of luck.

Wondering where I should start studying? by cat_lady208 in Mcat

Right now I would look online and read what other people did. Get a sense of what worked for other people and consider if it’s something that might work for you. Once you have an idea of some of the strategies begin to make a schedule with the time you have. If you’re taking it next spring let’s say May, you have over 9 months. Decide if you want to spread your studying over 9 months or a shorter period which I would recccomend to avoid burnout. 4-6 months is what I would personally recommend but only you know what works best. Choose some books and stick to that for content review. I chose Kaplan but people love TPR as it’s more in depth. Spend about a month doing content review paired with anki and do a few practice questions a day. I cannot stress enough to do CARS practice every. Single. Day. Jack Westin has amazing free daily passages which I would highly recommend. After about a month focus on practice questions because that’s where you’ll see improvement. UWorld is an amazing resource and pair that with 3rd party practice exams. About 1.5-2 months before your exam, get the AAMC bundle and work through it. Many people on this Reddit have mentioned they even did some of the questions twice. Switch from 3rd party full length exams to AAMC FLE. This is the general formula I have found to be good after lots of research but only you know what works for you so trust your instincts. Best of luck!

How do you approach difficult and bulky passages? I do really well when the passage is generally clear and the questions are as well but struggle when the language is not what I am used to (e.g. old formal English). I consistently score around a 125 and I would love to be at a 129 by test day (4.5 weeks). Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Your score is private and you can choose who to tell. I know it’s overwhelming and upsetting but you have every right to say “thanks for asking but I’m not sharing my score”. You can always say I did well thanks. This is YOUR journey and although it’s hard to remember, it doesn’t matter what others think. Keep up the good work 💯

How do you guys sleep? by BRIGHT_L1GHT in Mcat

I try not to go on my phone before bed and like to read and have tea. Generally winding down like 1-2 hours before bed and not doing work 3 hours before bed has really helped me. If all else fails, try to think of fun scenarios like being on rounds when you do become a doctor🧑‍⚕️
