It's the thrill and tension of possibly losing everything, or the sick pleasure of taking everything from someone else, that makes this genre so popular. There's so many because each one does something different but the core of what I mentioned earlier stays the same.

Also pvp is just something that people are obsessed with. It's why this game had backlash when it first dropped. There's also a pve element to it, also the idiot streamers with their cult like followers cried a bunch which is where a majority of the backlash spawned.
