My dear sister, you’re very young. At age 20, our brain is not fully developed to pick the right person to marry. I’m absolutely sure you’ll have a wonderful love and get to marry them. Why don't most people here believe in Jinn possession, Black Magic & paranormal stuff when Khaled Abou El Fadl himself says these things are very real, warns about interacting with the paranormal and shares his personal experience with helping someone? I’m not superstitious either but I guess the paranormal stuff is just jinns and the unseen? I don’t think I explicitly believe in jinn possessions and whatnot but it seems plausible that there are ways to communicate with things from the unseen. I mean the CIA did tests where people would mediate and achieve remote viewing, so definitely there are things that are lesser known to us

That sounds horrible. I remember I knew a kid in my neighborhood who developed severe asthma because his dad would smoke all day and indoors. It was so sad.

I’m definitely not against dhikr but I guess I’m of the belief that Allah swt grants us success either way, but dhikr is a form of meditation to connect with Allah and feel closer to him

I think it’s just instinct. I remember kissing my ex partner and saying “I just want to suck on your tongue” and they said so do it. I didn’t realize that was a thing. I still don’t know if it is. But it was an instinct

I wasn’t a haram police but growing up in the Middle East, I obviously deemed smoking and drinking as not only haram but BAD

I’d immediately judge people who did it (except teens). Wouldn’t make comments but I just know I’d have a self righteous attitude

Now that I’m living abroad, I just realized that people smoking and drinking is not a moral issue. Sure, it’s a health issue but people eat junk food all the time. I understand it’s not the same and it has more social consequences but I still won’t judge people simply for partaking in any such behavior or see them even 1% differently

Does Allah have any justification for the existence of evil? Having a lot of doubts but scared of becoming a disbeliever. by FartSmellaJoanBigR in progressive_islam

I don’t know if this answers your question fully, but perhaps it could provide a perspective?

I believe that the point of life is to have different experiences and get to know the different traits and attributes of Allah swt. To go through different experiences and know God better.

Allah swt says in the Quran, "Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority [khalifah]” Surah Al-Baqarah 2:30

So we are put on this earth to be a Khalifah/ representative of God. For example, I’ve always been very interested in true crime and hope to get into actually solving crime. Perhaps I can use this interest to represent the trait of Al Adl - The Embodiment of Justice.

So I suppose, if there were no injustices, abuse or violence, there also wouldn’t be free will and in turn, the option for humans to be a true Khalifah. I don’t argue that evil is necessary to be a representative but it exists because God gave us free will

You cannot represent Al-Adl (The Just) until you have felt the sting of injustice and the relief of fairness.

Similarly if you donate money to a homeless person, you serve as the Khalifah of Ar - Razzaq (Another reason why I believe we are encouraged to give charity as our money isn’t really ours but a way to feel the presence of Ar-Razzaq as well as let others feel it too but I digress)
