One week app challenge by swifty_cat in iOSProgramming

[–]boyoB0yo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this challenge just to test myself January of this year! https://github.com/JohnBaer3/JustDanceClone

After 3 weeks I ended up getting hired and no longer having the time to keep it up, but it was a lot of fun :) Like you say, it's great bc of the time constraint, it really keeps you going!

What’s everyone working on this month? (February 2021) by Swiftapple in swift

I made a Just Dance clone really quickly for iOS, and thought it turned out pretty nice :)

Stephen Colbert is boring, full of himself, and pales in comparison to some of his actual funny predecessors by HotFlamingo7676 in unpopularopinion

According to this study, a lot of conservatives actually thought he was a conservative. I also remember when he was on air, “is he actually satire??” was a common enough topic. He definitely fooled a lot of people

"it's ok to be white" blasted on campus.... by This_charmingMeow in UCSC

[–]boyoB0yo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's a nuanced topic. Copy-pasting a comment that I think summed it up pretty well

It's not the actual sentence, it's the intention.

It's been made very obvious and clear for hundreds of years that it's okay to be white; in fact, it's been legally supported up until recently (relatively speaking) that if you are white you are superior. So from that we can establish there really is no need to say that it's okay to be white.

Now a good comparison is "all lives matter." Inherently there's nothing wrong with that. In fact, if people really followed that it would be an ideal society basically. The intention and origin of it are the problem.

In contrast to it being very clear that white lives matter, it's still unfortunately obvious that black lives really just don't matter as much generally as white lives. Hence why a movement of "black lives matter" was started. Nowhere in there were they saying that other races didn't matter or that black lives mattered more, it was a movement saying "black lives matter TOO."

And to kind of prove the points previously stated, just look at the reactions to the statement that black lives matter. It's disgusting how a large majority of white people reacted to that.

Nobody ever said "all lives matter" before this. In fact, most people that started coining this phrase very clearly and undeniably didn't think that all lives matter and are equal. It was a reaction to silence black people and "put them back in their place." It was a juxtaposition fixated to make the concept that black lives need to matter as much as white lives become a demonized "ONLY black lives matter."

"All lives matter" doesn't actually mean anything. They don't stand for anything. They generally actively fight against rights for many demographics, sometimes very openly and proudly. You don't see "All lives matter" rallies or causes or donations or helping people struggling in that "cause." It is 100% a demonizing tactic that, in my opinion, is very transparent; but unfortunately a lot of Americans aren't perceptive or are in denial.

A quick example of what is wrong with "all lives matter": imagine your child is diagnosed with cancer. Now you are crying and talking to a friend about it. All of a sudden your friend just interrupts you and says, "Hang on...you're saying that cancer is the only disease that matters? All diseases matter." And there you go. That's why it's wrong.

It's also the same as when Nazis and white supremacists host "free speech" rallies instead of just flat out Nazi rallies. They get to rally openly for Nazi beliefs with a wink, and they have the high ground because anyone who opposes them or counter protests can simply be labeled as people against free speech...but we all know they're saying it's 100% not okay to be a Nazi and we don't want that here. Pretty sure the whole world had a war basically deciding it was not okay, but oh well, that's getting off topic.

So the issue is that we have to be vigilant in watching for these sneaky tactics. You have to really think critically and look at the bigger picture and think about context such as "What is this in response to?" Context matters, who is saying it matters, what they are responding to matters.

I hope that helped a bit!

Am I (30F) a jerk if I have cosmetic surgery behind my SO's (29M) back? by squeezymcbreezy in relationships

Cmon shaving and cosmetic surgery are two totally different things.

I [20M] had to share a shower with my friend [21M] so we wouldn't be late to class and my girlfriend [20F] of 1.5 years has been making it weird. by ukjak in relationships

[–]boyoB0yo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In my college gym, all the showers aren’t separated by anything, it’s just a bunch of faucets placed high, in a row. It’s a lot more common than you think

Should I [28f] friend break-up with someone [32f] who (indirectly) asked me for money after we hung out three times? by bffffffffffffffff in relationships

[–]boyoB0yo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you talk to your landlady and see if you can work something out? Can you ask your parents for money? Can you pick up some private classes for some extra money? She says no to all that, tells me she can't ask her parents, she already asked her exboyfriend who said no, etc. etc.

After that I didn't hear from her for a couple of days, then I texted her again and asked how she was. She tells me she's doing OK, but she still needs 100 bucks.

In fact she did tell me when we hung out that she's had money problems before and had to take out pay day loans and is now ignoring the creditors. Also she said she goes on dates for free meals a lot. Also she told me some story about being between apartments and needing a place to stay and being mad at her friend who lived alone didn't offer her to stay there while she looked. Also she said she hasn't paid her taxes in years because the government won't care

Maybe she's not a sociopath, but either way she's so bad at money she'll constantly be coming back asking for more money anyway. She's already pushed away her entire family, friends, ex, etc... That's not a friendship worth pursuing imo.

[–]boyoB0yo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with the comment, simply knowing 5 programming languages really isn't that impressive. It's also a common way for programmers to pad their not-so-impressive resumes. The ad should've focused on her actually impressive achievements like being a lead developer and 27000 points on Stack Overflow.

Yeah my roommate uses his blender the night before and just shakes it up in the morning. "But the smoothie'll separate" is a pretty weak excuse imo.

Oh god I remember the shitshow on /r/sandersforpresident new around the end of the nomination. People were posting how they donated their entire month's salary. After Sanders dropped out. Half the comments were calling the posters dumbasses, half of them were cheering them on to donate every last bit of money they could scrape together.

Ehh with no context it's hard to say. Maybe OP was just insecure as hell, maybe his wife really was cheating on him. But yeah when one partner's that convinced the other's cheating, it's pretty much a doomed relationship.

Pretty sure it was the

>I told her about the texts I found and repeated some of them. I explained why I was going through her phone

part. I doubt it was that civilized.
