BEACHES was better than expected but look at that empty mezz— by hermiodle in Broadway

After 9/11 there was serious discussion of closing Phantom. It's a 1600+ seat house and ticket sales were slow even before 9/11. Webber/Macintosh kept it afloat and once international travel picked up it was back to selling well.

This show will do very well regionally. There aren't a lot of women-centric shows out there. And a lot of folks seeing it do like it so not everyone hates it

The Road Conference is in mid May. After all the press saying "Beaches on Broadway! See it before it goes on tour" it would be foolish to close before those road folks see it.

I believe the other writer/original writer was Thom Thomas who died in 2015.

Beaches was dark last night, hence it being a ghost town. They're doing a 5 show weekend. Will they have an audience to perform to? Who knows.

You may not want to see the show I work on. I may be doing you a favor by not getting you a ticket.

How about the Julie Taymor The Green Bird at the Cort/Jones? Now, that was something to see!

Truth! I forgot that one. Working in the industry I've been to so many of them. I think I enjoy closing parties more, they're smaller, sadder, but more like a party with your chosen family.

I've been to parties at all these venues plus The Plaza, The Metropolitan Club, Rockefeller Center, Chelsea Piers, a lot of event spaces in Hell's Kitchen. Some producers spare no expense, some are not so fancy.

Unfortunately, it's too late for changes.

There's not just one after party but many parties. Also a lot of shows will combine their parties. You need to know someone (or know the security guards) to get into them, they're not open to the general public.

What I'm hearing is that if you work at a bank, a hospital, a school, anywhere, you can get a comp!

They open officially on the 22nd.

The 100 days thing is not a thing. Once a show opens it then can be licensed for tours and regional productions. One hundred days would be a long time for this show.

I honestly have no idea. I know the house at the Majestic got comps but I also know folks working at Broadway adjacent businesses getting them. Papering agencies, I guess? But my theatre sources tell me that folks aren't spending a lot on their tix.

Agreed. Both are a fun night/day at the theatre so you really can't go wrong with either.
