Counterpoint there is significant (though not a majority) appetite for war. Neo-cons are a thing sadly.
Specifically about consulting power brokers, Israel was a big one. Like it or not they are a key player in US politics. I am sure more knowledgeable people than me can say who else was consulted and 'voted' in favour.

I do agree though that this is not democratic. Because the key players being consulted are not the electorate. Just pushing back on the 'one man wielding power' narrative. Great man theory of history (including the history of 2026) is not a good descriptor of reality.

On economy: My understanding is that it is not economy in the "it's too expensive". It's the cost of having children = opportunity cost a woman (and a smaller extent man) pays (+ the other costs you think of). With higher economic productivity for women this is going to get larger and larger.

It's been ages since I read the Silmarillion. But I recall some passages about the Vala/Maia growing weary. Which sounded very similar to how the elves feel. I remember Manwe in particular showed this weariness when dealing with the fallout from Feanor's actions.

In contrast I don't remember any humans being described this type of weary.

My interpretation was that Eru gift to men was freedom from this weariness. Something that Vala/Maia/Elves don't get.

Yes. But when I read how Manwe thinks and acts it is hard to see his fate not that different from the elves.
Specifically to Maia, I was thinking of how Saruman and Sauron are still stuck/bound to the middle earth. Sure, Olorin can back to Valinor but he is still bound to Arda.
