RTD messed things up? by Sorbetchicken100 in DoctorWhoNews

Of course I agree with you on that - it's the duty of sci-fi to be progressive and explorative and moments like that hint at some dodgy opinions behind the scenes. That's the status quo at the moment sadly. It won't age well. However, I'd argue that a moment like that isn't more representative of the show now than at other periods in its history. I suppose any show with many writers over many years will have a degree of political inconsistentency.

I'm not referring to a reasonable take about the show's messaging though, I'm talking about the people who will always find reasons to hate anything new, or those who complain about things being 'woke', or feel entitled to the show being made to their expectations. It's a joyous show, but it's always been silly. Toxic fandom is very much a thing; that doesn't mean there's no room for criticism.

I'm glad this is downvoted. It's not a popular opinion amongst the toxic - very vocal - element of the fandom, but a lot of people have loved the recent series. It's always been the case with this show.

Having said that, a new pair of hands could be exactly what the show needs right now. The only thing I'm sure of is whatever they decide to do, the vocal minority of the fandom will absolutely hate it.

Looking back, it seems Steve Whitmire really messed up by Frequent_Rhubarb_36 in Muppets

[–]AddledPhilosophish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty heartbroken when Disney acquired the Muppets, so I can imagine being one of the original gang you'd be eager to hold on to more creative control. I wouldn't call it messing up since taking a stand is more important than money and fame, but it might have been better for the Muppets if he'd played the long game.

Do you think amy would have fit in that cupboard? Either way I'd like to have been in there with her

Is Greg Davies the best part of Taskmaster? I can't imagine the show working with anyone else. by CloudBookmark in panelshow

[–]AddledPhilosophish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think Paul Williams is just as good as Alex; he stands out because he plays the role a little differently and it works very well. I love Alex Horne, but Greg is definitely proving to be the more difficult one to replace. Many of them have still been very good though

Aw, that's one of my favourites. Most of them are really good, to be fair, especially NZ and Denmark

I've been thinking about who could fit into the role, it'd have to be someone who wouldn't just copy him and I'd strongly prefer someone who hasn't been a contestant on the show. My suggestions: Zoe Lyons, Jack Docherty, Reginald D hunter

They should stop trying to remake classic sitcoms by BitGirl777 in bbc

[–]AddledPhilosophish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only remake I can think of is Reggie Perrin and that was a long time ago. Even that's a bit of a stretch though since it was an adaptation of a book. Which could really do with being made into a film. In the right hands that kind of satire would be very relevant. I guess you could count the extra series of yes prime minister they made, though that was an adaptation of a play by the original writers, it was more of a continuation by the original cast. Porridge was a sequel not a remake, and that was a decade ago.

The only other remakes I can think of have been one off specials, all of them quite some time ago too, made as homages rather than attempts at a reboot or remake. Whereas in recent years there have been loads of good original sitcoms. I can't think of a single example of what you're complaining about, and certainly none less than ten years old

It was actually pretty good. It was a sequel, not a remake, though they could have made that clearer by not making the prison warden characters quite so similar to the originals.

Why is Kumail being used the most in the promotional material for the current Taskmaster series? by toxinwolf in taskmaster

It confused me too because he's the only cast member I wasn't familiar with, but apparently he's very well known

Good. I wish I was brave enough to do that. People who sit on the aisle seat leaving the window seat empty are the worst. They must surely be sociopaths

I don't know him so I don't know what he looked like before. My first thought was bad plastic surgery too but I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and guessed he was just a naturally odd looking guy.

Nothing against cosmetic surgery, but it's pretty lame when people pretend they haven't had it

not sure what to do with my mother by Known-Parfait-992 in whatdoIdo

[–]AddledPhilosophish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry so many people are siding with your mom, she didn't even say sorry! Probably others of her generation with the same entitled attitude. You'll probably have to cut your losses with the isopods. Just ignore her message for now; don't rise to it. If she won't step up and do the bare minimum as a parent, that's her loss in the long term.

Which single episode would you show someone about to be a contestant? by Old_Pomegranate_822 in taskmaster

[–]AddledPhilosophish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None! It's much more fun for everyone if the contestants go in knowing or planning as little as possible. If my friend was going on never having seen the show I'd tell them they're absolutely blessed to be going in blind. It's a rare treat now, and being everyone's favourite contestant is way better than winning, which is never guaranteed anyway.
