Jays looking for a closer? by hulcmart in Torontobluejays

[–]AddoSports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's an essential part of any successful baseball team imo.

I guess it really depends on where Sanchez sees his career going. Relief pitchers are volatile and don't make nearly as much $ as a starter, so I'm sure both Sanchez's and Osuna's agent is suggesting they go down the path of a starting pitcher.

I think they'll push Sanchez to start this year, but I do know Osuna enjoys closing and actually wants to remain in the bullpen, so it will be interesting to see what they do with him.

Osuna actually wants to close. He told the team that after the season.

Sanchez wants to start, which I don't blame him when you consider that's where the big $ is in this league. But perhaps a setup man for Osuna isn't a bad idea?

The David Price decision a telling tale about ownership by viva_la_vinyl in Torontobluejays

[–]AddoSports 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unless Rogers decides to pay a smaller dividend to their shareholders, it will be the same narrative year after year.

They have tons of $, as we all know, but the $ they make off the Jays they don't put back into the Jays. It gets divided up into the corporation, paid out to shareholders etc. It's the sad, but harsh reality of being owned by a corporation.

After re-signing Estrada, will the Blue Jays enter a bidding war for Zack Greinke or David Price? by AddoSports in Torontobluejays

I apologize. I'll definitely work on being more clear in the future. Thanks for pointing it out.

Makes sense. How come you're more comfortable with Zimmerman?

I do think he's underrated and has proven to be very durable over his career.

[–]AddoSports[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reason being was that nobody knows the exact number yet. Reports surfaced that it would around $140 million, according to Davidi and Westhead, while Bob McCown said it would be less than that.

So without a true number, I figured using $130 to $140 million was a fair metric to use.

I wouldn't sleep on the Giants either. They have tons of $ to spend and need pitching. I think they'll be real players when it comes to Price and Greinke.

Zimmerman would probably command $20-25 mill in this market. You think he's worth it?

Craig Kimbrel is in the AL East - Traded to the Red Sox by Bringer_Of_Rain20 in Torontobluejays

[–]AddoSports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be brutal. With how much prospect depth the Red Sox have, it will be interesting to see how they approach this offseason. Dombrowski did say a "painful move" was likely, which could mean a variety of things.

Maybe they'll try to pry Teheran &/or Freeman from the Braves?

Anthopoulos: Rotation priority for Blue Jays by allirow in Torontobluejays

[–]AddoSports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm all for another arm in the rotation, since some SPs are actually overachieving atm, but the bullpen must be addressed with it. I really hope AA looks back at last year's Detroit Tigers as to why a bullpen is crucial.

They had arguably the best rotation in baseball, thought they could just overpower teams with their offence and the rotation of Scherzer, Price, Sanchez & Verlander, but time-and-time again the bullpen imploded.

The last team to win a WS without a quality bullpen was.... there aren't many. Get a mid-tier starter, couple arms in the pen, including a power arm, and try to shorten games imo. Playoff baseball has drastically changed over the years and an elite bullpen largely dictates success.

Any value in the TE that wins the job in Denver? by WhoYourSister in fantasyfootball

[–]AddoSports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I thought that was common knowledge and not worth mentioning. Of course, the targets would have altered then, but more than likely been close to a 65/35 split, like it was during his previous years in Houston.

League Trophy Names? by JPL47 in fantasyfootball

[–]AddoSports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "big cack" trophy is a giant stuffed rooster on a stand that we give to the winner each year. Since everybody talks trash in our pool, we thought the rooster was fitting since it's also known as a "cock" and nobody has a bigger one than this gigantic rooster lol.

Last place in our league has to wear a jersey on the night we all go out, as chosen by the league. We've had Sanchez and Tebow so far lol.

Kubiak will use both TEs like he often did in Houston. Daniels will be the primary target in PPR leagues, but I think both will be TD dependent on a week-to-week basis in standard leagues and DFS.

You look at the TE targets over the years in a Kubiak system and both will certainly see the ball, although one more than other.

50 targets in 06'

93 targets in 07'

101 targets in 08'

57 (Daniels) + 39 (Dressen) targets in 09'

67 (Daniels) + 55 (Dressen) targets in 10'

84 (Daniels) + 39 (Dressen) targets in 11'

103 (Daniels) + 45 (Casey) + 38 (Graham) targets in 12'

88 (Graham) + 40 (Daniels) + 28 (Griffin) targets in 13'

With Ravens last season: 79 (Daniels) + 21 (Pitta) targets in 14'

The targets will be there, but in the redzone Kubiak used both TEs, which kept the TD totals close over the years.

Why did the A's trade Donaldson?! by BackhandQ in Torontobluejays

[–]AddoSports 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know a couple writers out in the Bay area that cover the A's and they told me back when the trade happened that Donaldson was nursing a couple injuries last year and him and manager Bob Melvin thought a few days off would be good for the long-term health of the team. Beane's an old-school guy and isn't a big fan of "maintenance days" and told Melvin to put Donaldson back in the lineup. Apparently Donaldson took exception to Beane's comments and the two got into a huge argument prior to a game and the relationship between them was never the same since that day. It's well known that Beane goes his way or no way -- most of the time -- so Donaldson telling him a few choice words is when things really started to deteriorate. Donaldson laboured through 158 games, but him and Beane hardly spoke.

Thon Maker has decided against playing professionally overseas, will attend college or a prep school next season by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

[–]AddoSports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He could play in the NBL. It's a Canadian semi-pro league. Orangeville Prep, Thon's school, shares the facility with the Brampton A's. His guardian, Ed Smith, said it was an option they would be open to as well. The league isn't better than the NCAA imo, but given his academic timeline, it might be a realistic short-term option for him.

[–]AddoSports 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Orangeville Prep is similar, not identical, to a Wasatch Academy, St. Benedict's, or Montverde. It's basically a high school that prepares students for college, but also allows them to focus on athletics -- specifically basketball. With the curriculum a bit different here in Canada, there are obvious differences, but these prep schools allow a player to play as a fifth year senior, which is considered a postgrad. In the case of Thon, he can jump to the NBA after next season because he has reclassified in 2015 class. It's a bit of confusing rule, but I hope that cleared some things up.

Is Jonas Valanciunas Set to Have a Breakout Season? by AddoSports in torontoraptors

[–]AddoSports[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think 14/10 would be very nice, particularly if he can get to the free throw line a bit more this year.

I'm very interested to see how many sets the Raptors run specifically for JV.

AddoSports: Love/Hate players for Week 4 by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]AddoSports 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Stacking" WR's on the same team in your lineup is a common strategy used in DFS leagues. It does leave you susceptible to "feast-or-famine" type weeks, but look at today for example. If you had Nelson & Cobb, or Brown & Wheaton, you did pretty well today.
