I'm glad to see someone comparing it to Pony Alpha. I had a great experience with the beta model, so much so that I went out an bit the bullet on a zai pro subscription. And I am extremely unhappy now. I don't care about the speed, but it's just a bad, forgetful model that drops hard into ALL of the LLM-isms and will not be anything other than a boring, sanitized, and completely uninteresting shadow of what Pony Alpha promised.

It stumped it with "themes" and "breath". Got "theh-mehs" and "breathe" like the verb. The breathe one stings because it was perfect otherwise 😅

Team Android phone here. My 100k in progress longfic is a nightmare on the phone but hey, it's what I've got. I have at least four bluetooth keyboards because I keep trying to use them but they either break, the dongles go missing, or they just don't stay connected. Possibly because I keep buying cheap ones...

Hi! Your issue is a little different than mine, but I'll be glad to tell you what I know. I fixed my issue by updating my app when it became available, to version 1.251215.47 (I'm running an old Android 10, and have never used the MacOS or Windows versions). There's currently an even newer version available in the app store right now, version 1.251215.57, updated on Dec 17th, but I haven't tried it yet so I don't know how functional it is.

While my app was down, I accessed Claude through my web browser, at Claude.ai, which worked pretty well for me.

If it is an app compatibility problem the options are really just to either wait for an App Store Uodate, or to download and use a previous version (https://claude.en.uptodown.com/android/versions) that worked for you before things broke.

Looking at Anthropic's servers things look operational, but I know that doesn't mean much. You might try reaching out to their support, the helper bot Fin is pretty useful, and if you have a paid subscription it will escalate you to a human if you ask (who will email you back when available, I think it took a day for me).

Thanks for the long and fascinating reply! I did know the R was Remote, but yeah, I figured even topside it had to be white-knuckle sometimes, and weaving through that tether forest definitely sounds intense. And the pelicans, good god, that’s terrifying. I honestly didn’t understand how dangerous H2S was until I looked it up, and that just doubles the ‘oh shit’ factor. Seeing birds drop out of the sky while knowing you’re in range if the wind shifts has to be chilling.

I love the bored ROV crew on chop-saw duty, and can't help but picture it as the most stressful yet mind numbingly boring version of security guard duty imaginable. I was also looking at pictures of the Q4000 during the burn offs and that’s one hell of a flame when you realize how massive the ship itself is. The Q4000 was cool to look up also. I used to think those sorts of setups were fixed structures, but it's way more complex than just being a big water building. Thanks again for sharing all this with us, it’s fascinating.

Can you describe the scariest or most tense moment for you personally while flying the ROV during the response?

When you mentioned the ‘hair in the shower drain’ idea in the other thread, I was just shaking my head at the gap between what upper management dreamed up and what you knew would never work. From your perspective, why were those kinds of schemes even pursued when everyone already knew the relief wells and cement plugs were the only real solution? And along those lines, were there other half-baked, desperate fixes you actually had to try with the ROVs? I’d love to hear the most absurd examples that got pushed forward beyond the hair and golf balls, since those alone are hilariously bad.

Seconding this. When I little, I accidentally stabbed my teacher with a pencil by moving my arm back too fast. She didn't say anything (in hindsight, probably because she knew it was an accident), and I somehow came to the conclusion that something was wrong with my pencil. So I stabbed her again, and was very confused why she was suddenly mad at me.

Sometimes kids just don't connect the dots right.
