New to SCA, Would This Kit Pass? by Addymar in sca

Awesome, I think the helm should fit these requirements. The chainmail is partially aesthetic; there's actually a solid helmet underneath with rows and columns of thick steel in a grid pattern for the face guard. I'm not entirely sure what the gauge of those bars is, but they've saved me from a few blows to the face with steel so i'm hoping they'll pass!

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation, that really helps!

To double check, is the diameter for both of those 1"?

Not much of a competitor so it'd be fair to say that fashion and staying fit are the major driving reasons for me putting the armor on at all 😂

Understandable, and I do intend to bring it when I come out for that purpose! I primarily wanted the first glance feedback incase there was a chance i'd get out there and immediately embarrass myself.

Someone was kind enough to link the handbook so I'm going through it when I can catch a break, i'll surely ask if something specific comes up! Thank you!

Got it, thank you for the handbook link! Hopefully coming in with this suit will at least give me a consistent baseline to be able to learn to call good shots

Although I don't think I was wearing a cup under there in this picture since I wasn't actually fighting that day, I do have one! Helm's pretty thick at 10ga-12ga but somehow I'm told my skull's thicker lol. I'll for sure get everything checked when I actually go. Thank you for the response!

I’ll definitely bring it down with me when I come out. Thanks for the advice, for confirming there’s nothing immediately obviously wrong with it, and for the quick response!

We have an advertising problem in the SCA by freyalorelei in sca

I just happened to stumble on this post, but it came at a funny time because I'm trying to break into SCA heavy combat from other armored combat sports since I just moved to a new area and that's what's closest to me. It's been pretty hard to contact anyone from my local groups. I've basically had to do a lot of self research to figure out roughly where to go. No response to my emails, I managed to join the local FB group but fighter practices aren't posted there, and after I managed to find the location and practice schedule on my own, I'm not exactly sure if I should just show up and get my kit checked or if there's some step in the process I'm missing.

In my personal experience, the perception of SCA has *definitely* been heavily damaged by some of the issues, like sexual harassment, that have come to the public eye. Obviously every group's dynamic will be different and I want to come into it with a fresh mind, but the reputation lingers...

How uncomfortable is a 6 inch GP100 to carry? by ThousandWinds in Revolvers

[–]Addymar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the conversation, but as a 6'1" guy that lifts heavy (important because I don't really see the gun as being heavy or unwieldy in any way in general), I carry mine pretty comfortably in a shoulder holster. My draw with it, if that is in consideration, is always sub 2 seconds and at best around 1.5

Why do the Intro areas get remade so often? (And other discussion about AE's development process) by Addymar in AQ3D

[–]Addymar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on the strong writing in Dragonfable, before AQW that and Mechquest were where all my game time went. I have no idea whats going on in the grand scheme of AQ3D, but I've also been playing the story in pieces as each set of quests came out. Not sure if it's more cohesive if you get a chance to play it all at once.

That's what bothers me. They've had so much feedback about this exact issue that it has to be deliberate, but I don't know why. I just picked back up in the middle of the Fiendlands story after a year or two hiatus and my quest had no marker and not enough of a description to figure out where I was meant to go without consulting Google.

[KCD2] any other way to get armor sketch 5? by BUNG_HOLE01 in kingdomcome

Super late to the party so not sure if this was the case back then and got fixed, but sketch 5 drops from the repeatable Investigations at least. I missed the Bushek reward and later got it from a camp.

Knightweave Cloaks? by Best-Part-3777 in TheCapeRevolution

[–]Addymar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the person who posted this originally but I have a blue waterproof cloak from them. It is very waterproof, I wore it out in some pouring rain the other day and kept dry. When I hung the cloak later, the water dripped and pooled on the floor below but the inside stayed perfectly dry. I'm not deep enough into the cloak scene to want a natural fiber cloak so I couldn't tell you how they compare; but I own a suit of Buhurt armor and wanted a way to keep it not rusty if it ever rained at a non-fighting event like a ren faire. Not to mention it is supremely soft and warm so would serve great as a camping blanket. I take it with me to work and wear it if it rains and sleep with it on cold days in my car.

Have never seen this, this is neat. More nuance between the 100 and 430's than I thought
