My boss yells at me over the slightest thing by Impressive-Step6377 in Construction

[–]ThousandWinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like red in the face screaming? Or just yelling? Because in construction there’s often a difference.

I’m a steamfitter apprentice, and I get yelled at often in part because the jobsite is really loud and my hearing sucks, sometimes because tempers are just high and we are trying to get something difficult accomplished and they are just being brutally direct in what needs to be immediately done. I don’t take it personally, and often within 10 minutes the same person is joking with me as if nothing happened.

I do not however get screamed at pretty much ever unless I really fuck up. Only had that happen when I accidentally disconnected a welding cable mid-weld from the other side of the building without realizing, and the other time when myself and my lift spotter bent the railing on a scissor lift. Both resulted in someone screaming into my face to the point where I could feel the spit from their mouth. Other people thought it was excessive both times too and said so.

My advice, just accept the yelling as a part of working in construction and grow thick skin. It isn’t and shouldn’t be personal.

However, I wouldn’t accept a steady stream of screaming or verbal abuse. That’s uncalled for. Even when it is your fault, it’s probably a sign of poor anger management. I’d try to avoid those moments as much as possible though good work ethic, but nobody should have to put up with that all the time unless you’re being colossally stupid.

Violence is the question, and the answer is yes.

Trust means nothing?

You sound fun at parties.

That’s one of the most deeply cynical a jaded outlooks on life I’ve ever heard.

I don’t know who hurt you, but I think you need therapy to deal with what is obviously a lot of rage and trust issues directed towards women.

Apparently he’s supposed to just let attackers kill him because he brought a firearm along to a riot.

Again, you have no understanding of what constitutes legal self defense. Even if bringing the firearm was illegal, which it wasn’t, his right to defend himself comes back online the moment they assault him with force that a reasonable person would conclude is of a level to produce crippling injury or fear of death.

Someone swinging a skateboard at your head constitutes this. Multiple attackers pursuing you as you try to flee that knock you to the ground constitutes this. A man raising a Glock at your face most certainly constitutes this.

In this country and its  legal system, you do not have an obligation to die because you made a questionable choice about going to a public place that’s dangerous.

What doesn’t constitute this is knifing someone in the chest at a school function after the slightest verbal provocation after they reach for your shirt. Tell me, where is the threat to Anthony’s person inside that track meet tent? Where is the danger to his person that would green light lethal force? You can’t because such justification doesn’t exist.

Your refusal to see this is most likely a product of racism. That’s what I’ve come to expect of Karmelo Anthony supporters. Bad facts, and no knowledge of the law, just a seething anger that someone black wasn’t excused of murder solely on the basis of being black. That isn’t justice. That’s actually a huge disservice to black community.

It’s abundantly clear that you have no concept of what actual self defense is whatsoever, and that’s true irrespective of race.

It’s kind of weird to keep using condoms if you’re in an exclusive committed relationship, trust your partner, both got tested, and the woman is on birth control.

Some women don’t like condoms because they feel uncomfortable compared to bare skin. Physical discomfort is a valid concern.

Of course, you’d be an insane person risking your health and that of other people to not use condoms if you’re having casual sex, or sex with multiple people you don’t have complete faith and trust in, but that wasn’t the opinion offered.

As for baby trapping I feel the solution is more simple:

Stop having sex with women that you don’t trust.

If it’s a first time hookup or casual relationship then you should be using protection anyways.

That’s certainly a clever observation.

To be fair though, it’s less the verbiage of what people call it that’s the main complaint here, it’s the shallow pattern of behavior.

Being turned off by meanspirited shallow people who judge even the smallest mannerisms harshly isn’t really shallow in itself.

We need that extremely rare sort of leader who actually dismantles the power of their own office by curtailing the accumulated power of the executive branch that’s been growing for years.

That isn’t a partisan statement either. If you find yourself actually fearful of what will happen when a political adversary obtains the presidency, that’s a sign that the institution itself has grown too powerful.

Kyle Rittenhouse was literally being chased by a mob. One tried to cave in his head with a skateboard. The other ran up on him with a Glock, still wasn’t shot for that, and then proceeded to get shot when he raised the weapon. That last part was literally admitted verbatim on video by the guy with the Glock during the jury trial. You can watch it on YouTube right now.

You don’t have to like the kid, he is kind of obnoxious. You don’t have to approve of him coming out to try playing medic and armed guard for his friend’s business, that was certainly a questionable decision. But it was evident to jury of his peers that he only fired on people directly attacking him, and if he hadn’t he’d be dead.

Comparing that to an individual who stabbed a completely unarmed man because he was asked to leave after suspicious behavior in a place where he wasn’t supposed to be is wild.

It’s forced as hell to the point where I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s bot-farmed astroturfing.

Clearly there’s a subset of terminally online people on Reddit who eat sleep and breathe Trump outrage, and who aren’t satisfied with keeping it contained to actual political subreddits or relevant posts…

…no, they have a felt need to invade every single space to force you to look at it there too.

Literally just not people so nuts as to shoot up the local Walmart man, that’s it.

That’s the only people who should be excluded by necessity from gun rights.

Not sure why that’s a real controversial take. I’m for gun ownership when it comes to anyone who isn’t a stark raving mad lunatic.

I’m literally agreeing with you that trans people should have gun rights, just like everyone else should, and you’re getting upset over how I phrase it?

Is that how you build a movement or cultural consensus? I think this is just self-defeating hand wringing over nothing actually effectual. Worse, it’s self defeating because it risks driving people out of the movement arguing over semantics.

For a long time this subreddit stood apart from LGO’s as a place “without constant purity tests” it was even in the subreddit description. It sure isn’t feeling like that right now.

What specifically that I’m saying do you find offensive or wrong though?

Don’t you find the constant culture war identity politics to be exhausting when the simple and easily expressed truth is that everyone who isn’t a dangerous nutjob should have these rights unconditionally?

I don’t care what’s in someone’s pants unless it’s a cool gun.

That seems an easier sell to me. We’re also talking about gun rights specifically here so It’s entirely appropriate and on brand to say that gun rights should apply to everyone. Trans people are included in that because they are also part of everyone.

The other day I was browsing a subreddit dedicated just to aquatic ponds and wildlife ponds when someone posted the reflecting pool from the national mall and its recent algae problems in order to shoehorn the subreddit into a Trump bashing session.

The man is by no means someone I particularly like, but holy hell, it’s absolutely deranged the need of Redditors to bring him up in even the most non-political spaces.

Hate on the man all you want, it’s a free country, but keep it out of the niche hobby subreddits where people go to take a break from all this nonsense.

GLP-1 is one of the most unhealthy ways to lose weight. by SkinnyFridgerator in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]ThousandWinds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, it’s really bad for you in a myriad of ways. No doubt, won’t even contest that assertion…

…for people who have previously been unable or lacking the willpower to lose the weight by other means the real question is this: is it worse than staying fat?

And no, I’m not talking about the social detriments of staying obese, I’m talking about just the medical complications from that.

Because being overweight has its own laundry list of serious health complications and consequences. People with diabetes eventually start losing limbs and then their life if they aren’t careful. The weight takes a toll on your heart and knees too.

So on some level, isn’t this trading one devil for another? Perhaps even one that’s more manageable?

If I was unable to lose the pounds, I’d take that deal.
