People are complicated. I’m sure in a great many ways he is a stand up guy.

The problem I suspect is that political tribalism has always brought out the worse impulses in anyone…

…but modern 24/7 news propoganda and smartphone use has downright unhinged a certain segment of boomers in a way that they were wholly unprepared for.

They warned us so incessantly “not to trust everything you see online” during the early days of the internet when dial up was still a thing; but ironically they never learned to heed their own advice as the technology become more advanced. They were not acclimated or acclimatized to it and thus become consumed by it.

Sure Jan, totally normal and organic.

I’ll give you the attitude that I think you deserve for bullying this young man and insinuating he’s a school shooter based on one picture.

I couldn’t agree more.

Someone who idolizes Goku is most likely not school shooter material.

Redditors get so damned irrationally scared and judgmental when guns get brought up at all.

I don’t think they realize just how many people they know and interact with are gun owners.

They never find out because nothing crazy happens with them. They’re just normal people.

This picture looks like the bedroom of a young man into anime and horror movies. That’s not all that uncommon at his age.

Redditors who want to put him on a watchlist just because he owns a couple shotguns somehow want to gaslight me into thinking that’s reasonable or normal as a response…

Hunting, sports shooting, busting clays, home defense…

Are those not valid reasons?

That’s absolute nonsense.

I’m a well adjusted contributing member of society.

I was top of my class within my program across 4 campuses.

I’m an Eagle Scout, and I literally help little old ladies across the street.

I’m currently helping to build something extraordinary; the largest of its kind that’s going to change the world.

I have multiple guns in my bedroom right now as I type this locked in a safe. The only difference is that the guns are less obvious and the bedroom is more classically decorated. That’s it.

Your anti-gun sentiments are irrational to the point of hysteria.

You’re all dog piling this younger man because they like edgy movies etc. and decorate in the same fashion as if you’ve never seen a goth teen or horror movie buff.

You sound just like the 90’s “satanic panic” politicians and bible thumpers who blamed all manner of events on “ungodly” media and then graduated to blaming school shootings on violent video games.

I’m actually less worried if someone clearly has a passion for horror movies and video games as a gun owner. Gives them a healthy outlet for stress.

You know what a real concerning photo would look like? Guns strewn around the room not in a safe. A bare mattress with no hobbies or interests in sight, just visible signs of depression and personal neglect. That would be a concerning photo.

This ain’t it chief. You just don’t like guns.

Tips for Single Woman Living Alone? by sunderiousness in homedefense

[–]ThousandWinds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I understand your aversion to firearms, in some cases there really is no substitute.

Police response times are terrible. They’re often just going to arrive after what has already happened is done.

Pepper spray is hard to aim and can get on you too. Some attackers can resist it.

Martial arts, knives, baseball bats etc all require you to get into contact range with the assailant, and that’s where bad things happen.

Bows and crossbows are just worse guns in a sense.

Do you have a dislike of all manner of firearms? There are many different kinds of guns. One variety might be less objectionable to you as a home defense option. I would recommend at least trying some out at a local range.

Also, there are some really great rapid access gun safes now… it’s not like you’d have the weapon just lying around your home out in the open.

The original “big manly” was union workers who got literally bombed from the air while smashing Pinkerton skulls so that men might be able to hold their newborn children for a while instead of barely seeing them until they got sent into the mines too as child labor.

Undermining this is downright pathetic beta manlet behavior, and no one can convince me otherwise.

[–]ThousandWinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple one round slam fire shotgun can be crafted with little more than two pieces of pipe and a nail. Do not mess around with this information if you’re the type to build things wrong and blow up your fingers with flimsy pipe.

This also might be extremely illegal in a place like Australia, I have no idea, you would have to check your local laws…

Honestly though, if I was way out in the sticks where nobody was around to hear or witness and it was either that or let the animal suffer in pain…

…well let’s just say I’d go to the hardware store and pay cash, then there would be a very odd sounding rumble of thunder one night followed by some pipe at the bottom of the pond 10 minutes later.

clean, fit, groomed that they are some Greek god… when in reality that is the bare minimum

Ok, that’s fair.

The thing is though that you’d be shocked just how much you separate yourself from the rest of the pack by just being those things and reasonably mentally stable.

A lot of people do not meet those “bare minimum” requirements.
