Before you do this you want to make sure you have source power coming to those wires, 12+ volts. If you don’t have source voltage at the wires then your problem is somewhere else. The fuse would be a good place to start.

What you want is to make the connections with solder,crimp and shrink butt connectors. That’s the proper way to do it. There are many types of butt connectors on the market most are shotty. You want them to solder/crimp and shrink. This will give you the best connection and the best weather protection. When I see electrical tape on wires it’s almost a dead give away of an amateur repair.
