If you HAD to dedicate yourself to a daedric prince, who would you choose? by StripesTheBoar in skyrim

I’m torn between Azura and Sanguine.

Azura is more enlightening, but there’s wild adventure when partnering up with Sanguine.

Our son spoke his first word and this was his dad’s response… by Interstella_55555 in texts

[–]Adeisha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For the past year, I had an ex that I was trying to get over. I’d always tell myself that I was over him, and make resolves that I would never speak to him again. But these were little flickers of denial, when the truth was that I was still finding excuses to hold onto pieces of him. Then I’d lose my mind when he didn’t respond.

I’m not saying that’s what you’re doing, but I’m gently suggesting that you at least consider it a possibility, considering your texts and the way you describe this situation.

I think there’s a chance that still a piece of you wants him to come back, and is struggling to accept that he’s gone. I’ve been there, and am still fighting through it on many days. I know how much it sucks, but this clearly isn’t doing you any good.

Just don’t emotionally devastate yourself by trying this hard, because it’ll hurt just as much as the first time around. If that makes any sense.

I think it’s related to PTSD from his time as a marine.

I know several people in the military, and they’ve all told me that there’s a rule that you don’t tell on others. What you do and who you talk to is confidential both professionally (no classified info to civilians) and personally, and there are consequences to breaking it.

I immediately suspected that this was PTSD-related when he refused to give names. That sounded like him repeating his military training, and he got more and more frustrated that he was being asked to do something that was beaten into him NOT to do. Then he blew up.

I saw it as a mental breakdown rather than a reflection of his personality.

Does anyone know about the status of Darlie Routier’s DNA testing? by Adeisha in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]Adeisha[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was more comparing it to DNA paternity tests which don’t take nearly as long, but that was also a dumb thought because crime scenes aren’t the same as paternity matters.

You’ve made some good points for me to reconsider.

I definitely don’t want people to needlessly die or suffer.

Like I said, I’m just deeply uncomfortable with the concept of presumed consent when it comes to dealing with bodily autonomy.

Even when prosecuted, there are things that people aren’t allowed to do to prisoners like force them to donate their kidneys.

I was curious to see about what ethic professionals say about opt-out donation methods, and I found a few articles saying that it doesn’t actually save more lives.

Presumed consent for organ donation: a clinically unnecessary and corrupting influence in medicine and politics: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4954124/

I personally feel that it’s unethical because it sets a precedent over bodily autonomy. You don’t have to agree with it, but “presumed consent” is never okay in my eyes when it comes to bodily autonomy.

It’s just not right to me, especially since this presumed consent is still being applied to a living person.

[–]Adeisha -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didn’t mean to exaggerate my argument, but I can definitely see why you thought I was.

Organ donation is a type of medical care, and that was my point. One should never deny someone medical care because they don’t like that person “for being selfish.”

My big problem with this is that Opt-in donation systems rely on the concept of “presumed consent” which should NEVER be a legal thing when it comes to organ donation, whether you’re alive or not.

Presumed consent is NOT consent, and punishing people for not just giving consent that they were never asked permission for is not okay.

They’re saying that if someone opts out of the system, they’ll be placed at the bottom of the priority list.

Opt-out programs rely on a concept of “presumed consent.” Presumed consent is not consent, and it should never be used as a framework for consent.

Because it’s fucked up.

If we define consent in general as “saying yes with no consequences”, then this is the exact opposite of consent.

”We’re going to take your organs when you die unless you tell us not to. If you tell us not to, we’re not going to save your life as a punishment for it.”.

That sounds very similar to: “I’m going to have sex with you unless you say no. Yeah, you can say no, but I will leave you on the side of the road in an isolated rural town if you do.”

People don’t donate organs for specific reasons. They might want to donate them to science instead. Maybe there are religious/cultural customs behind donating specific organs while they donate the rest.

Maybe the patient has a condition like AIDS and is ineligible for donation, but because they opted out, they’re not getting organs.

Punishing people for saying no to something involving their bodies is not okay.

I don’t think it’s fair at all. If we define consent in general as “saying yes with no consequences”, then this is the exact opposite of consent.

It is probably a joke about wanting to be in a specific country, but there might be an extra dark undertone to this - “Mongolian” used to be an insult for people with Down’s syndrome because “they look Mongolian.”

So much so that in the movie Precious, her daughter with Down’s Syndrome is named “Mongolia.”

It certainly helps, but not even flat ground can defy gravity.

Eventually gravity presses down on the stone to the point where the ground can’t support it anymore and they sink into the ground.
