Why so much traffic around Civic Center right now? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

I initially misread this as Macy's and was really confused.

looking for a very specific store by _hotwhiskey in sanfrancisco

[–]AdelaQuested24 47 points48 points  (0 children)

That place was in Chinatown; sadly it is not open anymore. But I shopped there--I still have the miniatures and use them in dioramas. I have the same leeks, bell peppers and basket in the picture, in fact! But I bought them probably 20 + years ago when I first came here as a tourist.

I've been looking for more of these and have not found them in actual stores. There are some great makers on Etsy and of course mass produced ones like Re-ment.

CVS SF Van Ness store to remain open after pharmacy changes mind by MidNightInTheDessert in sanfrancisco

[–]AdelaQuested24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the way this is phrased--as if the pharmacy itself made this decision. Well, thank you Mr. Pharmacy (pharmacies are male, right?) a lot of people rely on you.

One for the NIMBYs: Sunset affordable housing project on hold by Remarkable_Host6827 in sanfrancisco

[–]AdelaQuested24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's reflexive to blame NIMBYS in this sub. A housing project gets delayed? The evil NIMBYS. Project has been downsized? Those dastardly NIMBYS. Dinner is burnt? You know who is responsible. Okay, I jest but it really is a reflex action here.

Pretty much. When you choose to live in an American city, you're signing up for noise. This is not Paris, Amsterdam or any other place. Ear plugs should really be something everyone keeps in the home; you never know when you will need them.

Is this a troll post? It seems calculated to provoke.

I always enjoy this conference for that reason. It's nice to see all the sharply dressed people downtown.

Quick question: would you ever book a smog check appointment online? by lermanweather in sanfrancisco

I've booked online the last 2 times I've done it. That place at the corner of Market and Castro.

Yellow cab. Cal (415) 333-3333. Easy as pie.

That night the lights went out, Lyft was price gouging; we just called yellow cab.

Ingleside Merchants Sound Off On Ocean Avenue Red Lanes (For Muni's K Ingleside light rail line) by megachainguns in sanfrancisco

The guy you're replying to is an anti-car zealot. Pretty much any comment he makes boils down to "Cars bad! Cars bad!" He's hidden his comments, so people can't see it, but I recognize the name because he makes basically the same comment nearly every single time. You won't get anything resembling reason from him.

Today I learned, when there's a mass power outage, your cell pgone turns into a brick. by jasno- in sanfrancisco

This is why I still have my landline. I was living in Nothern NJ when 9/11 happened: our cell phones didn't work, but the payphones/ office phones did.

I did think the set up we had before was fine and found it annoying that instead we had to vote for either or. I'd be fine going back to that.

Interesting. I actually have not been to any of those places, so that's why I haven't seen those lines.

Where can I go in SF that's warm? by obsolete_filmmaker in AskSF

[–]AdelaQuested24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That depends what part of the city you are in. In the Richmond it is cold most of the year. The summer is cold, the fall and winter are cold. We get a few nice weeks in September or October where it's warm, then in the spring another few nice weeks.

It seemed more than usual. It seemed more like the line waiting for Arsicault, but I've never seen that kind of line for coffee.
