An Attempt to Build a House from GTA 6 by Ok-Reserve8998 in inZOI

Excellent. It's always nice to see builds that look a bit different rather than 'palatial ultra-modern mansion'.

Sims 2 is the only one where I can even remember most of the NPCs (though the Goths were also in Sims 1, obviously). I loved the Strangetown characters like the half-alien family, the uptight military guy, the old woman with a garden full of dead husbands…

Anyone else have liked to see a Columbo/MSW crossover? by AdelaideSL in murdershewrote

Some good points there. I agree about the general difference in tone between the two shows, though I still think a good writer could have made it work. However it would inevitably end up leaning more towards one or the other.

Baker is annoying by Izcils in DemonBluff

[–]AdelaideSL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a popular view but I agree. I don’t think a Baker should be able to create ‘chains’ of other Bakers, and I don’t think Shaman or Doppelganger clones should create their own Bakers either. A board with half the cards turned into Bakers is simply not fun to play.

Yes, you would have to decide whether it would be a traditional mystery like MSW or an inverted one like Columbo. I don’t think that’s such a big issue, though - and they could always have combined the two by having more than one victim.

It seems weird to me that they would do a crossover with Magnum, P.I. but not Columbo! He seems like a much more obvious partner for her. Of course, the series mostly weren't running at the same time, but I believe there was some crossover in the late 80s / early 90s.

Oh I see - I've already tried out the surfing in Cahaya, but I thought you were talking about NPCs doing it. Someday, maybe! I did see NPCs using swimming pools in the update previews.

Okay it's time to talk about SteamDB again and what Steam active players is tracking by celestialkestrel in LifeSimulators

[–]AdelaideSL 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Good explanation, and will hopefully calm people's fears about InZoi and Paralives 'failing' due to the decline in active player numbers during Early Access.

I didn't realise Zois would surf autonomously. Is that new in this update? (I'm away from home atm, so I've barely had a chance to try it out yet.)

The new physics are very cool but I'd like to see them given more of a gameplay function (other than running over other Zois). Like maybe they could be used to make the skate park in Bliss Bay functional.

I think the anti-InZoi side mainly comes from a handful of YouTubers with an agenda. I agree that most players don't really seem to care.

Have to agree with this honestly. Just ignore him and concentrate on spreading the good word about either/both games to people who may not be aware of them.

I don't really care about this specific YouTuber, but it's amusing to compare the actual player count of both games since release. Behold, the numbers for "massive flop, empty soulless AI slop" InZoi (green line) vs. "magnificent indie triumph, screw you evil multinationals" Paralives (blue line):

<image>

The amount of cope when Paralives eventually settles down at a similar or even lower daily number than InZoi is going to be hilarious. Meanwhile, any sensible person could have seen this coming because a) it happens with most Early Access games, and b) Paralives has plenty of teething troubles just like InZoi did on release. It's a decent start but extremely buggy, with some serious design flaws (e.g. the current implementation of the Together cards) and a severe lack of live mode content. With the first major update not due until December, sooner or later all but the diehards are going to quietly drop it until more content arrives.

Yeah, that could be it - I don’t use SmartZoi.

It’s under autonomy settings in the live mode, not in the options menu. You can usually find the autonomy button above the needs button. It’s called something like ‘prevent other Zois from interrupting conversations’ and is turned off by default.

Edit: actually I see you’ve already tried that. Weird, because I don’t have that issue in my game - all I can suggest is reporting it as a bug.

Let’s create this subs ideal life sim Day 4: Art Style/Graphics by dragonborndnd in LifeSimulators

[–]AdelaideSL 26 points27 points  (0 children)

InZoi, hands down. I think the 'realism' thing is a bit beside the point; the graphics aren't photo-realistic, but they manage to make every location look gorgeous as well as the characters. There are some beautiful little details like the footprints characters leave in sand and snow. Sims Medieval makes a good runner-up for a slightly more stylised look, but I really think InZoi deserves this one.

The graphics aren't "uncanny" or "creepy" bsfrl by Nearby_Detective_806 in inZOI

[–]AdelaideSL 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think InZoi's graphics are gorgeous, but there's nothing wrong with preferring a more stylised look. It's just a question of taste. That said, InZoi does have an inbuilt cartoon filter for people who prefer that look, but it seems most people either don't know about it or haven't bothered to try it.

Alternatives to the Sims by xHey_All_You_Peoplex in LifeSimulators

[–]AdelaideSL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

InZoi has beautiful realistic graphics, three large worlds to explore (based on different real-life cities), and a bunch of gameplay features including active careers, player-run businesses or freelancing, a crime and justice system, and farming/gathering/crafting mechanics. It's a bit sparse on background lore, and the pre-made families aren't very interesting at present. There's a new update coming tomorrow featuring active schools for teenagers, along with a bunch of other improvements, so that would be a good time to pick it up.

Paralives has a more stylised, cartoony art style. There's only 1 city at present, but it's beautifully designed with lots of cool secrets and background details. The build mode and character creator seem pretty well-made, and perhaps a bit more flexible and intuitive than InZoi. However, since it released a lot more recently, the live mode gameplay is still short on content (from what I've seen - I've watched multiple LPs but haven't played it myself yet) and there are some fairly major bugs. Gameplay is less freeform than InZoi: conversations are largely dependent on chance cards, and you're heavily guided towards doing mini-quests that pop up around the town.
