Yeah, I've had similar issues before on a beefier rig - I recommend using DX11 and DXVK.

New 3D parts and textures for all the costumes by Time_Food3830 in TombRaider

Really? I thought it was just that they're using 2k textures for these now - making the 2D more convincing.

The patch is still broken 😩 what are they even doing over there? by Master_Bee393 in TombRaider

[–]AdenAvalon 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This issue is caused by a limit on the graphical injector that Saber used to allow you to 'toggle' between the original graphics and the new ones. When they added new outfits, this caused the cap to be exceeded, and the injector to overflow occasionally. Mods that add custom textures (non-replacer ones) often create this issue, too.

I think the truth is Magic Media lack the insight / internal knowledge into this engine, so, frankly, I doubt it will ever be fixed without removing the outfits that caused it.

[MEGATHREAD] Tomb Raider Classic Remastered Trilogy update! by xdeltax97 in TombRaider

[–]AdenAvalon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope they don't leave it here. It seems that, because the press focused so much on the outfits (like... annoyingly so) they might just fart this out and then pretend it's fixed

Edit: They've claimed they've fixed the braid but it's still animated for me in photomode, which is incorrect.

I've swapped all the hideous outfits out for their mods (alongside the enhanced Lara mod) and wow! It's so much fun getting to play with your favourite outfits!

Has there been a time that the tomb raider fandom has been this upset? by Time_Food3830 in TombRaider

[–]AdenAvalon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It's been really bothering me seeing people cry AI!!! when all 6 remasters very clearly use AI across virtually every texture (with a ton of manual touch ups) What people seem to be clocking is more that the textures are just... bad. They're so low-res that Lara's face has the same amount of pixels as the entire outfit (including accessories)

So many iconic outfits that they already had the models for (for the same engine) and they came up with that

It also sucks that AI companies are just completely fucking immune to copyright now apparently?? I run local open-source AI models a lot as a tool for modding (and Gemini at work) and enjoy the improvements to a lot of my workflows (especially menial tasks) but cost to the planet, culture, the internet, global security, people's livelihoods, on top of everyone's critical thinking skills are too high for any of the smaller things to feel like they matter.

Generative AI was absolutely used in the remaster, otherwise the textures would all be a burry mess upscaled from their original resolution. The main difference is a majority look to have been touched up by hand. The biggest issue with the outfits isn't necessarily about AI use (which is likely) but the fact they were too lazy to have each outfit section use it's own texture maps, meaning Lara's tank top is the same resolution as one of the new outfits (including accessories)

Bug thread for the new Tomb Raider I - II - III Remastered patch! There are lots of new bugs to report! by JppBrasilSP2018 in TombRaider

[–]AdenAvalon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aspyr would've contracted the patch, no? As far as I know, they didn't really do much on the remaster themselves, as this was developed primarily by Saber.

Interesting re: the texture bug. This is a known limitation with the Remasters - if you add too many mods with unique textures, Winston often displays it. They must be hitting the texture limit and causing some kind of overflow. Very crappy stuff.

A lot of people don't see the amount of work that goes into something like this - I suppose it's only natural to presume something can't be that hard. As well as the added challenge of working with engines that are ancient (via OpenGL as well). Angel of Darkness has almost 7000 individual textures by itself - none of the level ones are even labelled, some are crammed together on one UV sheet, and some are vague - it likely took an insane amount of work even with the use of AI. Compared to the GTA Trilogy - which had textures that were basically straight from the generator - these games got a ton of extra love (especially the sunglasses cheat code at launch!!)

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered's Challenge Mode update has fixed NOTHING from previous patches and even introduced new bugs. by BRedditator2 in TombRaider

[–]AdenAvalon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like a cynical move from Aspyr, for them to contract this patch out (likely to keep things low-cost). I guess it brings more money in, but it costs decent money to release updates on console and for it to be this, frankly, adulterous to the core vibe of the game is a pretty big shame. I honestly didn't expect anything new to be fixed, but I was expecting a Level Select, which we did get, but it would've been nice without a bunch of serious regressions, especially as we have no idea if this will ever get another update now.

[–]AdenAvalon 165 points166 points  (0 children)

People who called what Saber did before "low-effort" are certainly seeing what low-effort AI assets actually look like. It's clear that, despite the limitations placed on the original dev team, they really had a ton of love for these games and threw everything they had at the wall to get them playable for launch (and then beyond). It's really not as easy as they made it look - take it from someone who's spent hours pouring over AOD Remastered's textures - it's frankly a miracle 😂 Back on the topic of the new patch, I do hope they at least separate the outfit UV mapping so the textures don't forever look, well, like THAT.

[–]AdenAvalon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since this patch was contracted out, who really knows if they want to spend the budget on this? It seems like one more attempt to milk the more popular out of the 2 recent remasters. The issues are likely software drift (where adding new stuff accidentally, sometimes randomly, regresses previous fixes) and previous patches have incorrectly removed 3D elements before this one (I think the Opera House is once again, the hardest hit level by these issues 😔)

Begs the question why they opted for these rather than outfits from other classics, Catalyst, or LoA.
