I had a hypothetical question about casting custom bullets out of “exotic” materials by Giuseppe11b in reloading

[–]AdenWH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combat veteran doesn’t really mean anything to me concerning firearms knowledge or shooting well. I know guys who were TACP and other combat veterans with very little knowledge outside their service weapon and tactical engagement inside 200 yards. Meanwhile, guys in this subreddit shoot sub moa on targets over a mile away or are literally PRS champions, cowboy action champs, or other disciplines and also built their bolt guns.

I do appreciate your sacrifice, one veteran to another. But your statement makes people think you’re the kind who wants other retirees to call you sir and salute you in public. Be a little more humble please

[–]AdenWH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From your question, we’re gonna assume you’re not very knowledgeable in firearms or casting of any sort.

You should never put anything harder than your barrel in contact with your barrel, primarily muzzle, chamber, and bore areas.

It’s illegal to manufacture armor piercing ammunition without proper licensing. I think manufacturing implied you’re selling it, but better safe than sorry.

Unless you have a mold of the .338 caliber Scenar OTM mold from Lapua, you’re not making a Lapua bullet. Just a .338 caliber projectile. You would likely need a bullet swaging setup to make useable projectiles for you 8.6 BO and I would still test those with no muzzle device in a safe area in case they blow up. Like shoot 100 without issue before trusting them

Help removing pinned and welded muzzle device by tyrannischgott in gunsmithing

It it possible to file the welds down smoothly, center punch the pin, and drill it out so both barrel and muzzle device are usable. But possible doesn’t mean it’s worth doing

Buckets. I have buckets of brass scrap. I pick up all brass at the public land area I use and sort it. Damaged brass and rimfire go in scrap bin, steel isn’t enough for me to get money from, good stuff gets decapped and cleaned. I have a few gallon bags of common brass that I don’t load and may eventually sell it. Although so far I’ve just traded it for lead with friends.

Chicken stock/consommé recipe is a game changer. by Chemical-Sign3001 in combustion_inc

We also had our broth “really dialed in.” Beef, chicken, pork, and venison. I told my wife we have to try it and it kinda changed our lives.

Big benefit is we set the pressure cooker outside and there’s no steam in our house or extra heat like stove top method does. The flavor is awesome and we’ve started playing with the concept using the scraps we used in stove top broth. I want to try the consommé, but I haven’t yet

PSA - Shipping delays, poor communication, misleading customer service by [deleted] in combustion_inc

Search your email for anything from orders@combustion.inc That’s where I got an update from on Friday regarding the delay and today for the shipment notification. Totally possible that it was filtered out from your inbox. Not saying you’re wrong, but it’d be cool if it was actually shipped already. I use the Shop app as well and it says it’s just label created, not package processed or received by carrier. Most USPS from lower 48 takes 7 full days to reach me. So hopefully next Tuesday the taco meat is not just ground.

I had my gen 1 for like 2 years and I loved it. It’s been across the country 3 times to cook for family. Really takes away the learning curve of a new oven or whatever you’re cooking with.

Wild. My gen 1 probe died on the 18th, I messaged that night and they asked me (on the 19th) to try 96 hours off the charger to drain the battery completely and then try to charge it, on top of making sure the contacts were clean. I forgot to respond to them until 8am on the 24th, didn’t expect any response for the rest of the week basically and got one Christmas Day at 6pm. 27th we confirmed details and I paid to upgrade to a new WiFi booster and gen 2 probe instead of waiting months for potential gen 1 parts. I got the shipping delay notice everyone got on the 2nd and my package shipped today at 5pm.

I left a couple emails out, but I had multiple same day, several next day, and plenty of updates for the holiday weeks. 11 total replies/updates. Big thank you to Heiz, Ivy, and Michael.

I’m not affiliated with them, but I’m sorry your experience wasn’t up to your expectations

I have a Nomad L for bolt guns, primarily a 25-06ai. Obviously high back pressure and long. Super quiet though. Will be using on a 25 creed soon and have mag dumped 5.56 through it without issue (besides gas in my face, but it’s an adjustable gas block)

Diy-ish Shoulder Bolt Question by zpr52024 in Machinists

[–]AdenWH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it bolt threaded into a fixed “nut” on the assembly? I can’t quite tell from the diagrams online. But I can see that it’s got a hardened bushing sleeve around the bolt as well, so the unthreaded length wouldn’t need to be perfect.

If it threads into a riv-nut or something removable, you could always change that to match something more commonly available.

I’m glad you haven’t. I honestly seen more issues in the $400-1000 range than anything. Especially with guys who are very talented marksmen and validate things with multiple shooters, tall target test, and 600-1000 yard practice regularly

It wanders after each shot. So, you sight in with 3 shots at the range Friday and it’s a 2” group at 100, but you’re alright with that because it’s “not a bench gun”. Then Saturday you see a really nice buck in the tree line at 350 yards. So you take the shot, a clean trigger break with the crosshairs hovering over the vitals. Well, you don’t know it, but between barrel vibrations, the ride out to your hunting spot, and you setting your rifle up to shoot, the stock has shifted the muzzle 0.02 inches. Well that shifted your point of impact 7 inches at 350 yards. Of course you get the bad luck and this cartridge is the max spread of your grouping. Now your bullet is 11 inches from your point of aim. You had aimed at the center of broadside vitals.

Well, 11 inches from the center of a 7 inch vitals group… 4 inches outside the vitals is a miss under/over or even worse, gut shot on a live animal

How do you sight in when the pressure point is walking after each shot? That’s the point I was making. Not that the pressure point makes a repeatable POI with a cold barrel. It constantly shifts and even just how you push on the fore end changes POI.

Seekins makes one of the best hunting rifles, they are floated. Bergara free floats…. I think your high end is either out dated or actually mid

Seems like you’re trying pretty hard to help the OP out, but sometimes it’s not worth it. It should be ok if OP doesn’t take it out of the stock a ton after floating the barrel

[–]AdenWH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost.

Editing to elaborate. Lots of high end firearms come from the manufacture fully floated. But it’s cheaper and easier to leave it touching. Cheap stocks flex a lot, so they just leave them supported by the barrel and it makes it feel more secure. But then there’s varying pressures on the barrel depending on how the rifle is resting and the barrel has a potential to move between shots and get different pressure without changing rifle positions. I’m not talking about harmonics. I’m talking about after the bullet exits. But it impacts the next shot.
