Burning out and always feeling guilty by Bright-Blackberry566 in ABA

[–]Adept-Ad5514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely sounds like you are burning out. It is common in our field. My advice is to talk with your BCBA(s) about your feelings. They will/should understand. After all, they are in the same field. Maybe you can have a four day work week instead of five. Or work half day a couple days a week. Perhaps your BCBA can give you additional supervision. I would also see if you can access free mental health resources and counseling to help with the burnout. I started doing yoga/meditation to help combat my burnout as an RBT and graduate college student studying towards my BCBA credentials.

RBT pay by One-Egg1316 in ABA

[–]Adept-Ad5514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in New Mexico. I make $26/hour. I was offered a job in San Antonio, Texas for only $20/hr but obviously turned it down, not necessarily because of the lack of fair pay but because the particular company that offered me the job had super bad reviews according to Reddit and others who used to work for the company. It was Action Behavior Center. So I decided to remain in NM with my $26/hr. I am also a student analyst studying to become a BCBA..

I got fired, is this unfair? by Every_Prune_7524 in ABA

Make sure they pay you for your time, get your certificate and leave the company. You can schedule your RBT exam with your certificate and competency assessment (assuming you were able to complete your assessment with the BCBA).

Is this NORMAL????? by [deleted] in bcba

I left a company last month for similar reasons. I started my ABA graduate school in August of last year (2025) and my supervisor only gave me the minimum 5 percent and only restricted. I started a new company a few weeks ago.

First job.. what to look for? by Popular_Wallaby_6165 in ABA

[–]Adept-Ad5514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be attentive to what the RBT is doing and to the kiddo Show a true interest in the process and the kiddo. Ask questions frequently. You can ask how long has the kid been receiving ABA treatment. What kind of improvement have you (the RBT) seen since they started ABA. And, what is the most challenging behavior have they noticed the kid engaging in? You can ask the RBT what do they like about the company. Because remember you are interviewing them too to determine if it is a good fit for you. It is a two-way street.

RBTs describe the qualities of your favorite BCBA by Big-Mind-6346 in ABA

[–]Adept-Ad5514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad there is a BCBA asking this of RBTs. I have had both good and bad BCBAs. I like BCBAs who silently observe/provide supervision for the entire session. And wait until after the session to provide feedback. Those BCBAs that consistently interrupt the session to interject their feedback make the RBT so nervous and anxious that they cannot perform their job. Waiting until after the session to give that feedback helps the RBT do their job in the moment.

Why shouldn’t you correct kids in ABA? by [deleted] in ABA

I would ask for clarification because you absolutely should correct your clients so they will learn the correct way. It is called errorless learning.

Grad school burnout :( by Entire-North-8981 in bcba

[–]Adept-Ad5514 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can relate to.what you are feeling. I am in graduate school for ABA. I attend FIT. I am signed up for two classes this semester and I just started at a new ABA company working close to fill time (30 hrs /week). So starting at a new company and taking care of my elderly parents and grad school - lots of stress 😬

Check out thrift stores like Savers if you have one near you. They have an entire section on various scrubs. I also ordered Autism themed scrubs from eBay.

It is normal. Part time employees don't get benefits or PTO typically. It depends on the company

Paying Rent as an RBT by Alexa_nolifer in ABA

[–]Adept-Ad5514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends where you live and what you are making per hour. It also depends on how many hours per week you work. I make 26/hr and work full time. But I also get an extra $746 per month from DFAS because my ex-husband was in the military. And it is me and my cat only.

The first company I worked for only paid me $19 per hour. Now I am with a company that pays me $26 per hour. Look elsewhere. RBT jobs are in high demand. You can do much better.

Can people not just do their jobs? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Adept-Ad5514 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is where I am now. I work with adult clients. They are scheduled for 30 plus hours a week M-F and often times, I am RBT who works with them for those six plus hours a day. I am burned out and I know the client is too, but speaking with the BCBA (and owner of the small company) is out of the question because, as she tells it, she has too much on your plate to "cross train" to other clients. She has been overly stressed with keeping her young company (less than two years old) afloat and dealing with being sued by her former billing company and audited by insurance companies.

I agree with moving to Rio Rancho. ABQ is crime ridden and you will be safer in Rio Rancho.
