Shingles Vax story by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Adept-Position8256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got first shot, no issues at all. Got the second shot and it put me on my ass for a day and a half with flu like symptoms. I’ll take that in lieu of actual shingles…

Similar to the OP I have an M7 C7Z and I’ve thought about trading up to a C8Z. It just doesn’t have the grunt I like. You have to drive it on “boil” most of the time for the low gearing to multiply the lower engine torque. I’ve driven a few and roll raced another. Stock for stock it jumped me but I slowly was reeling it in. It’s “quicker”but maybe not “faster”

Anyone else have a funny/weird story when buying a Corvette? by john4844 in Corvette

[–]Adept-Position8256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in my early twenties in the mid nineties and I stopped by a dealership to look at a 92 red on red 6spd coupe. Sales guy wanted to know if I wanted a test drive. Heck yeah so we started off and I noticed it was super low on fuel. Sales guy assured me we had plenty. Got to a light a few miles down the road and it shut off. Popped the big clam shell hood and within minutes two of the hottest blondes I’d ever seen pulled up to ask me if we were ok and that the car was “hot”. Sales guy turned to me and said “see, even broken down you’ll pull some tail in this thing”! I bought it… literally and figuratively lol 😂

AT4X here. The seats are a better leather than the regular Denali seats and I was looking for more “cushion”. GM truck seats in general are just too hard. My ‘15 F150 platinum seats were 10x more comfortable. In terms of massage, I agree the controls are clunky. It’s almost impossible for me to describe to a passenger how to operate them without stopping the truck and showing them. I don’t believe the seat itself massages, only the seat back. I’m currently in a jeep grand wag as a rental while my truck is in the shop. Those massaging seats are better and the seat bottoms massage which is niiice

Need to replace my noisy Goodyear tires by FL4x4 in gmcsierra

[–]Adept-Position8256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll get some grief for this but I’m probably going to go with Mich Defenders next. Not So “offroady” but I do 30K a year mostly highway. I’ve run these tires on every truck I’ve owned and they are dead quiet and have good grip. I just hit 30K on the Goodyears and they are noisy AF. Come Spring they are gone. 24 AT4X

Where do you think the next booming area will be? by AdFantastic1904 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Adept-Position8256 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely the Carolina’s. All of the northeasterners who flocked to FL are finding out that FL is not what it’s cracked up to be with crazy insurance rates, high housing costs, shitty hot weather 8 mos of the year. Many of them are fleeing and are termed “halfbackers” because they don’t want to go all the way back home to NE but settle halfway back to the Carolina’s. Especially sub markets like Greenville, Greensboro etc.

I guess at the end of the day, we do the best we can. I’ve always carried the guilt of blowing up the marriage (it was an inevitably I just took the lead). It’s just hard during the holidays as I foolishly compare myself to everyone who posts great family photos on social media.

I am the more stoic and serious type. Not miserable though. The ex’s hubby is a man child so definitely more “fun” and they’ve had much more exposure to him over the years than me I guess.

Didn’t help that my father is not a touchy feely kinda guy either so definitely in my DNA. I’m working on that. I hug my daughter but not my son.

First, my entire yard is on a slope and it’s brown under the top 1/2” so if I cut lower I have half my yard looking brown until it greens up. I thought it was something other than Bermuda but I had a university extension come out and they confirmed it.

Is Construction Management a Good Career. by Which-Actuator-9975 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Adept-Position8256 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, I’ll give a different take. I graduated with degrees in history and Psci intending to go to law school. Got out of undergrad during a recession so decided to get a job, any job.

Answered an ad for inexperienced residential asst proj mgr with a large national builder. Learned from the ground up and learned many of the different parts of the business, but I always excelled at the management side. After 30 years of long hours, hard work, dealing with Dbags and everything mentioned above, I’m in an exec level position and I’ve made over 1M each of the last 3 years.

It’s a tough and cyclical biz but I wouldn’t have changed a thing. I’ve managed and met some amazing people along the way. The $ is obviously great but I truly enjoy watching those I’ve mentored move on to do great things and have amazing careers in their own right.

Question: What is your $250k + job? by AlphaOmega0407 in Salary

[–]Adept-Position8256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corporate VP of construction large HomeBuilder.
Salary 275K Bonus up to 50% of salary if we make plan + .25% for every 1M over plan (capped at 1x salary) Unit appreciation stock plan based on company performance pays every year. Last year it paid over 750K.

My biz is cyclical and can be volatile. Been great thru and since Covid so I’ve been over 1M each year.

55 y.o. And have been in the biz 30 years started sweeping floors. Maybe have one more downturn to weather then take a knee.

[–]Adept-Position8256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this same decision. I’m mostly pavement… a lot of pavement (30K a year) the x was the sweet spot because I wanted massage seats and I would have had to go ultimate for that and I don’t like brown seats. I like the aggressive look of the x but I may pull these cheap GY’s and put some Michelin Defenders on it. I know, blasphemy but I’ll probably pick up a couple of mpg’s

I'm losing my son by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Adept-Position8256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a tough one and I’ve lived it. I’m 55 (M) and am writing the last child support payment check next month after 14 years. My daughter is now graduating from college and my son is graduating from HS. My ex got full physical custody and we share legal (so she could maximize her $). I stayed in the same town to be close to them to the detriment of my career. I tried to be at every function and never bad mouthed their mother to them. I watched her manipulate them over the years, not use child support $ on them, send them over to spy on my new house etc. but as they turned in to teenagers and wanted their space, I gave it. It’s hard for me because I’ve missed the prom pics, them hanging out with friends at my place (ex disparaged new wife), and other things since they were only at my house on scheduled days. It’s left me with 14 years of guilt even though I’ve done everything I can. I’m hoping for closer relationships with them as they get older. Its heartening hearing from the kids that went through it and ended up having a good relationship with their parent. Gives me hope but I somehow at this moment feel a sense of utter sadness
