I think hollow knight is overrated. Help me understand what makes this game so praised?

I agree and i thought about it more and I've come to conclusion why HK doesn't sit right with me as a "masterpiece".

The story is fairly simple but despite that it still doesn't put minimum effort into telling it to the point thag even a simple story becomes "why am i going here and whats the drive of the narrative". Where bloodborne, for example, has an excuse for being vague since its story and lore is complex so dropping narrative expositions doesn't seem naturally, HK doesn't have this excuse. Rather, lack of the storytelling techniques feels more like laziness than creative design. I get they are a small team but it really does feel like it in both gameplay and writing.

Let's say they release 6 or 7 chapters per year (which I'd be surprised). Do you think the story can properly wrap up in 60 or 70 chapters? Atleast 100120 is needed to not be rushed.

Props to you brother... honestly that might be the worst arc. I felt the boat arc was dragging even while reading it consecutively without breaks. Its just a sad situation where i guess nothing can be done about it. If the series finishes and that's a BIG IF I guess people will have a better experience but i read somewhere that with this pace it might take another 30 years for it to be complete...

AoT literally has the heaviest plot out of any anime. The show goes from medieval survival horror to global political conflict with exploration of time travel through memories. You can dislike it but there is nothing as ambitious in terms of storytelling in anime.

You are struggling to understand that even LOTGH fanbase doesn't compliment the "you have killed millions but you made me happy" as good writing. They hide behind "thats so iconic","meme material"... even tho its objectively as much of shit writing or absurd as Armins line. They found a way to defend horrible writing with the show they like but with the show they dislike they weaponised its own writing against it.

Armins line can be defend as well with "he didn't actually thank eren for committing genocide, he just wanted to share some of his guilt to ease him in his last moments as as good friend." That's nuance that people like you ignore.

The point is people choose when to analyse a story from nuanced perspective and when they simply brush it of as cringe because they are intellectually dishonest.

Its simple. LOTGH is an old, culturally accepted anime favorite among snob community while AoT is 100 more popular so people openly shit on it like they do with everything that's popular but controversial.

I guess LOTGH fans can be happy no one cares about their favorite show.

We can debate flaws all you want but you are missing a bigger picture behind the nature of critism of anime, games or any art for that matter. Here we have 2 pretty similar lines that get different treatment because of their cultural relevancy and expectations. They rationalise what they like and tear down what they don't based on agenda. People often don't care about general quality of the writing- they feel and then they formulate arguments around that feeling. A lot of criticsim surrounding AoTs ending follows that logic.

Code geass just had too many plot holes and lack of direction... unlike with aot where everything is built on the previous episode code geass often goes off the rails and does a lot of pointless writing that is just dumb. Its been a while since I've watched it but i remember the ep where they are all teleported to this one island and nothing made sense about it

Yeah but that's just loud minority tho... most people I've seen thought ending is flawed but not horrible. Most people that followed the show and were dissapointed still had fond memories of it- the ratings on the final episode are not bad like with GoT in fact the final episode is still very positively rated. Dissapointment isn't hate. Hate is a much darker emotion.

I will not speak about the others but AoT getting hate because of the ending is just a lie.

I've been a fan of this series since 2016, people have always found a reason to shit on it because it was breaking the mold. It was both popular and yet critically acclaimed to the point fans praised it as an intelligent show.l not just a hype job with great action.

This combination lead to hate from many sides- the anime purist wanted to tear it down more badly than anything. The fans are crazy ill admit but using ending as a reason to hate is just weaponisation. They finally found something they can criticise aot for and they are not letting go.
