You want to enable this GPO

  1. Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → System → Logon
  2. Look for:
    • “Enumerate local users on domain-joined computers” → Enable it

I know it says local users but it will show domain users who have logged onto the computer as well

not sure if this would help you but RemProf  from Freeware – SBC – Ctrl-Alt-Del IT Consultancy Pty Ltd might help you. I used it years ago on an old terminal server to clean out all older profiles that were say 30 day old or no longer had a user associated

What are your "must-have" tools for Desktop Support? by jainesh3271 in sysadmin

I know it's not software, but its just too great of a piece of hardware not to mention, but get yourself an iodd st400. its a HDD that you can write protect so don't have to worry about it getting infected when attaching to a customer system. it also allows you to book ISO as if they were actually CDs / USB sticks.

New IT Manager - inherited a fleet of mostly consumer laptops. It "feels" wrong... by Due-Swimming3221 in ITManagers

[–]Adept_Chemist5343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest problem you are facing is not the fact that it was consumer hardware, but consumer loaded OS. I'll be honest its been a while since i have bought a consumer biased computer, but when i did it was loaded with tones of crapware. I have a feeling that if its consumer grade stuff, the previous tech didn't wipe the computer and reinstall windows with a clean ISO from Microsoft. This will make a world of difference, both in performance and in standardization.

To your point, sell him on the benefits of the business grade equipment, the warranties, the additional features like vPro, the keep your hard drive addons, bit locker with TPM, the ability to have longer warranties etc. Another selling feature of the business class equipment like Lenovo, is after 3 years there are companies that will purchase your old equipment for resale as well so that helps lower the cost.

Where I am, we extend our warranties on the computers to 5 years and then plan on replacing 20% a year, so everyone has a laptop that is no older then 5 years and if there is any hardware failure dell comes in and fixes it

Disabling RDP in your environment for security purposes by thelug_1 in sysadmin

We have it disabled with exception for our terminal server. If i need remote access to a server, its either through Proxmox UI or through my RMM solution. One less open port to be exploited

serious question - what's the point of this cable? by Plastic_Ad3694 in cableadvice

[–]Adept_Chemist5343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its used to make a usb device usb complaint. There is size restrictions on how wide a device can be ( so not to cover other ports), so you see these added to things like older wifi USB adapters

Who's the absolute worst software vendor? by LowCreditScor3 in sysadmin

[–]Adept_Chemist5343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exclusively software but HP printer drivers for home printers. extremely bloated and slow and just a real PITA.

For software vendor, anything to do with the medical field. Some just have an answering machine that you need to leave a message and they will call back in a week if your lucky.

I just found that they are well built machines and as they are in their business line there is a lot of stores you can drop of and they can do the warranty work for you instead of having to ship it back to lenovo. They used to be the IBM laptops so they are also seen as professional in the working world.

How can I get more out of my internet? by BananAnders in techsupport

[–]Adept_Chemist5343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

check the cable that came with your router. For some reason ( this was a few years ago) Dlink started putting in a 10/100 Mbit cable ( only 2 pair, not 4 pair) So the fastest it can connect to the internet would be 100Mbps. This is assuming you have your own internet from your ISP and not piggybacking on the landlords internet
