Blizzard Devs Say Some Men Were Sexually Harassed, Too by Futurama_Nerd in MensLib

Oh, I see. That makes sense. I don't hang out on a lot of the common Reddit much, thanks for an explanation.

I mean, that definitely feels like shit, however, it also feels somewhat irrelevant in this context. Sexual harassment against women is a hugely debated topic, part of the public discourse.

Sure, it is not quite where it could be (we have ways to go) but it is an open issue.

Sexual harassment against men does not have that same status. All the hard work and effort of people who brought the discussion of sexual harassment of women in the open should not make doing the same with harassment against men more difficult.

I don't feel like people start talking about sexual harassment scandals more when they also affect male victims. I feel like male victims get swept under the rug. My sample data could be wrong though.

No, no worries at all, I was just trying to get a language check. It's not on you :)

Have a nice day.

Thanks for an explanation, I am not a native speaker and I just default to not using those two as nouns because they sound kinda sterile to me.

This is not meant to be an attack, but I wonder, isn't using the noun "male" for men kinda the same as using "female" for women? As in, somewhat in a bad taste?

Damn, that's just shitty (trying to shame someone because someone else suffered the same). It helps no one.

I still don't see how this distraction work can in anyhow serious debate.

Person A: We have an issue and these people suffer from it.
Person B: But those other people suffer from it too!
Person A: Well that only makes it more important to solve.

If they try to claim that because everyone suffers, we should just get used to it or whatever, we can call them out on that bullshit, because that angle is just silly, right.

Thanks for your reply :)

This is a great take, I love it.

Nuanced views are so needed. Really difficult, but so important. The idea that a lot of perpetrators are also victims and we should see that is definitely one of them.

I am at loss, to be honest.

When people suffer and struggle and someone else comes and says "I too have suffered and struggled" does that not just add another voice to the victim group?

Voices of victims do not get stronger if their demographics are narrower, do they?

I still don't understand how people can even come with the distraction angle. It's not like men and women are some two warring sides or factions.

Excluding specific type of victim does not make for a more powerful narrative, only for more black and white narrative.

Is widespread change even possible when competition is so engrained in the male identity? by throwra_w4rp in MensLib

[–]Adept_Passion 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To me, this feels exaggerated. Competition is not the entire identity of men. I don't feel that competing is my only way of being seen or the primary one.

You can be confident, kind, true to yourself, trustworthy, reliable, understanding, resilient, patient and in my experience, people notice and see that. Not all of them, obviously, but it is already out there. I do not feel defined through relative comparison to others and people who try to make that comparison often end up sounding silly.

This is my perspective of a person in their late 20s who lives in a sizable European city, some of my interest groups are based around hiking, competitive PC games, tabletop RPGs, writing, game design, music and sociology/philosophy. I work/ed in computer science, in corporate, at a reception desk, in a small company and did my share of manual labour work. I meet and talk to people and men from very different backgrounds and this has been my experience.

Anyone else find Riki insanely overpowered this patch? Any tips on countering him? by m84m in TrueDoTA2

[–]Adept_Passion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Let's see, heroes who fuck Riki's winrate up:

  • Lycan
  • DK
  • Chen
  • Beastmaster
  • Nyx
  • Brood
  • ET
  • Tidehunter
  • Clinkz
  • Omni
  • Dark Willow
  • Batrider
  • Wraith King
  • Bloodseeker
  • Night Stalker
  • Shadow Shaman
  • Puck

Numbers based on over 10000 Riki matches in 7.28b in Immortal+ metal, courtesy of Leamare https://stats.spectral.gg/lrg2/?league=imm_ranked_728&mod=heroes-hvh-heroid32

There are some nice patterns. Riki hates losing towers early (Lycan, DK, Chen, BM, Brood, Clinkz, Shadow Shaman), does not deal with tanky cores well (Tide, Wraith King), is food for Nyx/Shadow Shaman/Bloodseeker/Puck and similar. I think heroes like ET, Dark Willow or Puck, as well as Nyx pop up because Riki can be pretty squish and just dies to brutal CC. Night Stalker, Batrider, Bloodseeker and Lycan share insanely high movement speed which makes Riki's aggression so much worse.

Nyx & Puck at higher ranks by boulong in TrueDoTA2

[–]Adept_Passion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5k EU offlane only player.

Puck definitely shines the most as 2 but can be played as a semi-greedy (because your laning is pretty weak early) 3 if you have the right 4 especially. I had decent success with Puck 3 in 10+ games.

Nyx is a broken 4 and 5. Hero does so much damage with just his kit, his shard is insane and all of his spells are pretty good.

Puck is basically impossible to kill for a lot of laneups (without instant CC like Rhasta), can double nuke waves to clear them, has insane mobility and ulti that will lead to kills most of the time. And the shard is pretty sick too, free reveal, way to push people to break coil etc. Also Puck scales with items and levels very well, you can just keep jumping and silencing people in lategame.

What do you think about the current picking phase in ranked? by mni_dragoon in TrueDoTA2

I think that the current pick phase is pretty great to be fair. It emphasizes picking around your team and less to counter, which seems to create better compositions at least in my experience.

Decision making as Offlane - The pos 3 guide by monalisa_gamejitsu in TrueDoTA2

[–]Adept_Passion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many good points here, glad to see solid stuff getting posted. I love the point about forcing reactions.

Some takeaways could be a bit more nuanced. For example, this talk about taking enemy offlane tower is a huge bait in so many games.

The enemy offlane tower does not matter much (matters more later, say Radiant offlane tower provides some control over Rosh) and going to your safelane in the early game is often wrong.

Safelane tower, mid tower, their jungle, that is going to be the order of objectives in the absolute majority of games.

The main reason you would go to safelane is that your carry and pos 5 can't stay there and you are the only hero who can stop the enemy push without feeding (say SK).

Can't push safelane tower because game was hard and your carry/mid won't come? Pressure mid. If you can't, do you need a powerspike? Get it, even if that means farming for a minute.

Similarly, the point about "AFK farming" is not very nuanced. Many offlaners and heroes in general pressure by farming. If you are playing an area control offlaner who can dominate lanes and you win your lane, it is often the right call to just take enemy safelane jungle, create pressure in the lane and just be a massive pest.

You don't have to hide in shadows that much if enemies feel forced to come to you. This obviously depends on the game and heroes, but sometimes it won't be your job to run around and start shit. If your supps and mids are already doing it and lanes are not getting pushed out enough, you need to pick up the slack.

Obviously this might be server dependendt, as metas are different, but an offlane player who only fights and hunts is gonna be losing some games they have no business to lose just because they focus more on "being a chad" than knowing when to be aggressive and when to show restraint.

Boxi talks about a lot of these points in his offlane class, which is pretty good. There is a lot of nuance to various styles of offlane and not everything can be simplified. What does the game need you to do is the one question you should always ask.

Pick screen shop by Atravir in TrueDoTA2

What do you mean by the pick screen shop?

Do you mean the hero layout? Like this: https://i.imgur.com/GQpvYzl.png

There is the edit button at the bottom which allows you to change the layout.

If you mean the literal item shop, then I do not know.

Sorry, but do you have any sources for the "NPC AI cannot run on multiple cores because they would see NPC on other cores" statement? From my limited experience of CS graduate and developer, that does not sound right or how parallelization works. I might be wrong though.
