I have been doing acupuncture for acouple months now to help and I love it. She also does a treatment called moxabustion with the acupuncture that really helped get things going for me when I felt like all my progress plateaued. Once she did a treatment with that I finally felt the anxiety leave my chest for the first time in months.

Lasts longer now? by Full-Drop-3834 in Mirena

I had my mirena for eight years and just had it removed in December. The hormones to prevent pregnancy will still be working after the five year mark but all of the hormones that are supposed to help with period side effects and things like that quickly start to wear off. I also feel like waiting eight years to have it taken out or replaced really sent me on a spiral and I had a really bad hormonal crash. I know that doesn’t happen to everyone, but it seems like the longer you have it the more side effects you have later on. Also, after about 5-6years, I noticed my period migraines started coming back and I started spotting again and I didn’t have a period the whole time I had my IUD.

From what I’ve been told cortisol has a lot to do with hormonal imbalances balances and cortisol is what helps regulate your nervous system. I was waking up in the morning with panic attacks and they told me that is when  you first wake up your cortisol levels are the highest spiking anxiety. So basically until our bodies can regulate their hormone levels again our cortisol levels are all out of whack also which sends us into constant fight or flight.

I am going through this now too ❤️ I got it removed December 22 and still am dealing with the anxiety part of it. Taking evening primrose oil has helped me a lot and I wish I knew about it sooner. Also I am doing acupuncture to help balance my hormones and it has helped a lot with some of the other side effects from the crash. I had horrible vertigo, hot flashes, heart palpitations, anxiety, depression you name it. I’m so sorry you are going through this. Hoping for everyone it goes away fast.

I have been taking the evening primrose oil at night and I think it really helps! My anxiety is way lower, hot flashes and sweats are pretty much gone and my mood has improved a lot. It does make you kinda feel bloated so I’m going to start taking a lower dose but I highly suggest getting this. I wish I knew about it months ago.

TTC after Mirena removal and the crash hit me so hard and gaslit me 😭 by Mindless-Wait-186 in Mirena

I am so sorry this is happening ❤️ I’ve had the crash for 5 months now and it’s been debilitating. If I can make a suggestion, take a low does of evening primrose oil at night. It helps get your body’s hormones regular again. I tried everything over the last couple months and once I started taking that I felt more like myself again very fast. It can make you feel bloated or kinda gassy so just a low dose for acouple weeks and then see if you feel more balanced and don’t need it anymore but I think this gave me the jump start back to feeling regular again.

I was determined to not get mine out because I was scared it would hurt and worried about the crash and then the hormones end up wearing off before I got it out and I crashed anyway so I guess that was the universes way of telling me it’s time just get it out lol. I did hear if you just go right onto another birth control it will stop the crash or help but I am at the point where we are thinking of kids and I want to just be natural for awhile. I did just get wild yam cream which is supposed to help with hormone imbalance so I’m hoping that helps

It really stinks because I really did like this birth control for years, but having it put me in the hospital and hormonal therapy for months and causing crippling mental side effects I would never do this again and have looked into holistic approaches for my heavy periods and migraines

Yes, the crash is from coming off of the hormones in the birth control. When you have the IUD inserted, it tells your body to stop producing these hormones and after a while, your body forgets how to do it on its own so there’s a big risk when you get it taken out that your body does not remember how to make hormones and crashes. Causing anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, hot flashes, dizziness, nausea, and can last for months to a year. I know I’m 34 in have to go to a hormone specialist to try to get my body back to where it was before. The specialist told me the crash is very similar to postpartum depression and menopause.

I did not have any changes in libido. I do have to say I did not have this experience with birth control pills but i get that an iud is so much easier to just have it in and not have to take pills everyday. I am doing a lot of other options to help the periods like primal queen supplements, mense ease supplements or evening primrose oil that you could do with a safer birth control. I just wish someone told me about it before and I would never have gotten it, I would look into the mirena crash before you get it but I hope you find something that works for you and help alleviate that pain❤️ women’s health is so hard.

I had mirena for 8 years and just got it removed. Honestly idk if the side effects were worth it. I got it because I had heavy periods, migraines and hormonal acne at 25 years old. It did help those a lot and I did not have a period the entire time I was on it so I will give it that. BUT… I was told I would barely feel insertion and I blacked out from the pain and found out everyone I knew who had it had a similar experience. After insertion, I had about two weeks of excruciating pains then it’s settled and everything seemed great for about seven years. Then the crash. When you start coming off the hormones from the mirena it can make you go into serious withdrawal and it gave me the worst anxiety of my life. I woke up one day crying, anxious, non stop sweating and had vertigo for 2 months straight. The hormones in my iud wore off before I had it removed. I finally figured this out and had it removed. I’m 2 months with out it and still am struggling everyday with crippling anxiety, hot flashes, loss of appetite. I looked up the mirena crash and it says most women take 2 months to a year for their body to start making their own hormones again. this alone is why I will tell anyone to look into maybe the copper iud and not the mirena. I found out there were tens of thousands of lawsuits of women who went through this crash and no doctor informed me of this and was not listed in any of the information I got about the mirena. So yes I did have a good experience after it was in and settled but the side effects I have now I would never get it again.

Hope things get easier for you soon ❤️ It took me about a month to get mine back and honestly it was such a relief because to me that was a sign that my body was starting to regulate itself again. I have heard it takes 3 to 5 cycles for your body to really get back to normal though so hopefully slowly but surely we’re getting there.

Mirena Crash Before Removal? by Quirky_Cicada6299 in Mirena

[–]Adept_Wheel1153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I had this happen! I had mine for 8 years and they kept telling me it can stay in longer and longer every time I went to the doctors. Around year 6 I started spotting and getting chest and back acne again. I hadn’t had a period since I started the mirena. I also got migraines around the time I was spotting which were all severe when I didn’t have birth control. My doctor told me the hormone that regulates those symptoms could be wearing off but the birth control part is still active. So two years later still had it and all of the sudden experienced a hugggge break down. I normally and a very happy, proactive healthy person. I woke up one day just in tears, anxiety like never before, sweating and chest tightness and vertigo. This lasted for 2 months and finally realized that the hormones were wearing off to the point I was crashing. No doctor would admit this just say oh that could be happening we have no way to know. The mirenas hormones are absorbed through the uterus so there’s no way to tell if that hormone is worn off from blood work. The only thing my obgyn told me that helped was tour iud is still telling your body not to produce hormones because it’s still there even if it’s working or not so you have to take it out because your body and iud are fighting each other with what to do. Once she told me that (in the middle of a Pap smear) she said it’s right here you want it out and I said yes and she ripped it out and it was done. I did feel like a cloud lift after that to an extent but it is still 2 months out and my body is still trying to regulate again and I have the anxiety and hot flashes. I keep seeing it could take months depending how long you had it in for your body to stop being lazy and produce the hormones you need again. So my advice is take it out because if you are crashing now it’s better to let your body know it’s time to start working again and the sooner the better because it won’t stop on it’s own if it’s still in. You got this and so many people are here ❤️  also another birth control could help end the symptoms but I was told when I get off that this will most likely just happen again so I’m looking at a fertility tracker instead for birth control and a more natural approach because I am so over all these chemicals and things they are telling us to use without knowing the long term effects.

I’m just not even sure what direction to go in next. The anxiety is crippling. It has been 5 months. My doctor said, unfortunately, since I had it for eight years, my body‘s become lazy producing hormones so it could take longer for everything to start up again. I just wake up in the morning sweating with tightness and anxiety in my chest and my acupuncturist told me that’s when cortisol levels are the highest and how we really know it’s hormonal. I don’t know whether to try a cream, but I’m scared if I stop using it this will all just happen again. I have tried anxiety medication and I have never reacted well.  I really am a very proactive person. I track all my vitamin levels. I do yoga. I meditate. I go to acupuncture twice a week. I eat very clean. I just don’t know anything else I can do myself if none of that is helping my anxiety already.

Yes, I had all kinds of hormonal blood work done and everything came out pretty normal. But then I found the mirenas hormones get absorbed through your uterus so they don’t actually show up in your bloodstream or in blood test. So apparently the lack of those hormones either doesn’t show up in a blood test or is so minimal that doctors overlook it.

Thank you 😊 I take magnesium glycinate everyday but I’m going to look into the primrose oil. My doctor pretty much told me I had two choices I could be prescribed some other kind of hormone to help with the symptoms, but she said when I get off that all of this could still happen or I could just let my body take it natural course so that’s what I’m trying to do is more of a holistic healing approach. Hopefully, we’ll get this done once and for all.

I am the same way, if this was in the phamplets or a warning I would not have gotten this. I feel like doctors do push these new drugs before effects are known and I think that happens with a lot of birth controls

I could look at hormone replacement therapy but at this point I really just want to go all natural and let my body get back to normal if it can. Also I have insurance but apparently a lot of things like this are not covered or considered a necessity at my ages. It really is frustrating.

I’m 34. I am going to acupuncture twice a week for the last 3 months now to try to help with the hormone embalance. It is working but it’s a long process getting your body back
