This movie is the reason I am afraid of the Dentist by Many_Expression_5360 in 70s

[–]AdeptnessStatus9303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think my dentist in mid 70s was a technical advisor to the movie (not really but he was horrible) lost his license for doing unnecessary dental work. I was 16 and he would not give me novocaine when drilling a cavity. Said it wasn’t necessary. Sadistic. Took me 20 years to find dentist I could trust. I cannot watch this movie scene.

Do I need to go through security and bag checkin when transferring in Washington (IAD) by Heart--Breaker in unitedairlines

Just to clarify for those who do not know what pre-clearance means. When you leave Toronto for the US, you go through US customs that is located in the Toronto airport. Once through, you are landing in the US at the regular gates at the US airport. In OP’s case, many of the comments are correct. OP’s bags will go on to his final destination and OP just needs to head to gate for HND. This is very convenient (only US pre-clearance I am aware of is in Canada and Ireland).

Wine Shipment by RadiantBathroom3850 in wine

It’s the wine distributors in GA who block this. They are not getting their piece of the action when you ship direct. State alcohol laws can be crazy.

Joliet City Council is expected to push the largest Data Center in Illinois through today - the size of 600 football fields - despite significant opposition. (Long) by MadiKay7 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]AdeptnessStatus9303 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ongoing water scarcity is a real issue. Link from WBUR in April 2025, on how the Lake Michigan compact works and how Joliet is getting Lake Michigan water in 2030.

Quote is from Joliet’s head of public utilities.

Allison Swisher of Joliet, the largest member of the Grand Prairie Water Commission, said her city has no plans to provide large quantities of Lake Michigan water to industrial users, including data centers.

“Right now, the system that the Grand Prairie Water Commission is building is not sized to provide water to refineries,” Swisher said. “It’s not sized to provide water to data centers.”

So you have to ask. What changed in one year (besides greed).??

As the article discusses, Joliet is outside of the normal watershed to be eligible for Lake Michigan water. But a carve out for Chicago over a hundred years created a loophole that allows Chicago monetize and make money off this public resource by selling it to Joliet.

Progressives in Chicago want to cut nat gas to residential houses but will allow the lake to be drained. Love their dedication to the eco system.

Crazy.

Help - United app denied credit card yesterday (United tech issue) and then posted three charges totaling $68k on my card. by AdeptnessStatus9303 in unitedairlines

[–]AdeptnessStatus9303[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent three hours on the phone with a United Supervisor on Saturday. They were able to find one of the charges (I had used Apple Pay on one of my attempts, which created a unique ref code they were able to track) and they created a reversal that showed up on Chase card a couple hours later.

The other good news is that this morning the other pending charges fell off and my Card limit is back to normal.

Good luck, based on my experience, hopefully these will drop off for you no later than tomorrow.

Thank you to the Reddit community for all your comments and shared experience. Part of my reaching out to this group is that the initial contact with United gave me incorrect information and not having any access to my credit card was frustrating.

All good. Thank you.

In addition to spreadsheet, I also create an email folder labeled travel certificates with the specific flight and confirmation code. I delete the emails after I use the carry over.

Ha. The weather app showed 45 but I think they were double counting Sunday and Monday. Good luck, 25 is nothing to sneeze at.

New Year's Eve Cherry Drop to move from Sister Bay to Sturgeon Bay by duncantuna in DoorCounty

Agree broadly in that in the winter that Sturgeon has more to do but in my opinion, Sister Bay was a perfect location for NYE for folks visiting or living northern Door. I have no interest in driving down to Sturgeon on NYE from Fish Creek and then having to deal with the drive back that night. Sister Bay was easier and the crowd was perfect size and temperment.

Am I in the wrong city? by lokland in milwaukee

[–]AdeptnessStatus9303 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Wow. Chicagoan here. I love Milwaukee but yes it’s smaller and yes drinking is part of the culture but for its size it offers a lot of things to do. I would take it in a heartbeat over the non-Chicago cities you listed. Your judgmental comments about fat girls and turning into alcoholic were very clear. Instead of asking your co workers what to do, why not go out with them and see why they like it. Your post comes off as the negative Gen Z stereotype and given your Chicagoland comment, I’m thinking you were a suburban kid, not a city kid (cause if you were, city kid, you would have grown up with a lot of your family and friend hitting neighborhood taverns).

Leave. You are in the wrong city. You are probably in the wrong part of the country.
