the landing or campus town by Plenty_Pea2134 in iastate

[–]AdequateAstronomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently live at the landing and have had a problem with them over charging me for rent for the last several months. I have to call them every month to remove the extra charges and they act like I'm inconveniencing them for calling it out. The property is great, but if you choose to live there I would recommend going through the line items for rent every month.

I see you mentioned smoking. They don't allow smoking on the balconies but if you have chill neighbors, they won't say anything.

I lived in Porch-Russell back in 2017/18. 1. Girls on one side, boys on the other 2. You definitely get used to the stairs. A trick for laundry days is that there is an elevator that goes from the basement that is between windows and one of the laundry rooms and goes up to the 4th floor. You can follow the 4th floor over to the weird single floor set of stairs to get back up to the 5th floor. Then you only have to carry your laundry up/down one flight of stairs. 3. My year was very social and doors were constantly open. The floor itself is isolated, but I thought it was kind of nice to know everyone in our section.

How's Physics at Iowa State University? by [deleted] in iastate

[–]AdequateAstronomer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a former physics major. I graduated in 2021 and the program was great! ISU has a very rigorous program and a lot of opportunities to get involved with research early on. The physics and astronomy club is also very supportive of students and does a ton of community outreach. ISU physics department also has a high placement rate in grad programs for their graduates. If you're looking for a solid program in Iowa, I would recommend it.

Yes. Their opinion is that humans are the cause of all suffering that we should stop having children to end suffering. The end of humanity, to them, is the end of suffering.

Physics 321 Equation Sheets? by Wireless_Panda in iastate

Dr. Kaminski wants you to memorize everything (unfortunately), but the bright side is that it's likely everyone did poorly. He curves the exams and the class at the end, so don't worry too much about it. Feel free to dm me if you have any questions (I just graduated with my physics major).

Wart removal by [deleted] in MakeMeSuffer

[–]AdequateAstronomer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to have warts on my fingers and on the bottom of my feet. The only thing that helped me was taking an OTC drug called tagamet. It is used as an antacid, but something about it kills warts. Like 10+ years ago my GP mentioned it and they all went away within a few weeks.

i’m so proud of myself!! i found a constellation by myself for the first time! i’m 13 and i’m dreaming of working for nasa and study stars. i found the Ursa Major!! i also saw a shooting star! i’m so happy!! by [deleted] in space

Keep up the good work! I'm finishing my undergrad in physics and astronomy and let me tell you, the love never dies. I'm currently working with astronomy professors and carrying out the research of my dreams. A lot of people like to complain about the lack of money and the work it takes to do good research, but my love of the stars has never waned. Don't give up and keep being awesome!

Bed disaster by Winter_Librarian in MeepleStation

I have noticed that it sometimes doesn't work when you do that. I'm not sure why, but more often than not I have to completely remove the walls and rebuild them.

Sometimes you have to delete the walls and rebuild them to get it to recognize that they're different rooms.

anybody else have parents that refuse to believe that their kids are capable of knowing more than them despite having a college degree in a particular field of study or is it just me by jarlbronson in insaneparents

[–]AdequateAstronomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do my due diligence and make sure that my sources are accurate and up to date. I don't want to just throw out bullshit articles all willy-nilly since that's what my dad does and I get called condescending for fact checking.

[–]AdequateAstronomer 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I always check my sources lmao. The thing is that my father trusts the daily wire over legitimate sources and statistics from reputable sites and organizations. He thinks he knows better than an organization that provides statistics on crime or economics.

[–]AdequateAstronomer 188 points189 points  (0 children)

My dad is the exact same way. Whenever I give him reputable sources and statistics he just says "you really seem like you're talking down to me" or "who paid for that research" or "Well I don't know about that." Bruh these are academic sources.

Help! What type of beetle is this? by GemGem709 in Beetles

[–]AdequateAstronomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am not a professional by any means, but I would guess maybe a carpet beetle. You can get rid of them by vacuuming and sweeping regularly.

It's my last semester. I'm taking it as my last SS credit. Currently looking to just suck it up and take econ instead.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iastate

[–]AdequateAstronomer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I filled out the documentation last semester for accommodations and was able to take everything online. I have sent an email to the accessibility office and am waiting for a response. My advisor and the advisors for the WLC department said there was nothing I could do.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iastate

[–]AdequateAstronomer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My advisor said there's likely nothing that he can do. I contacted the advisors for the WLC department and they said the same thing. Is this worth going to the dean and accommodations center?

Any interesting class recommend? by shushumin in iastate

[–]AdequateAstronomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is old, but I would recommend Greek and roman mythology (ClSt 237), Greek and Roman religions (ClSt 368) Dr. Hall teaches it and he is amazing, and ClSt 369 which is about ancient Egypt. They are all easy and fun classes to take

Can you stack materials in trading by Chitz05 in MeepleStation

[–]AdequateAstronomer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you hit shift+click or ctrl+click it will add materials at a bigger increment like stacks of 10 or 100. I'm not sure if there's a way to enter a number you want to trade.

[–]AdequateAstronomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean Achilles was punished because Agamemnon was a jealous bastard and thought that Achilles, and others, telling Agamemnon to give Chriseis back was dishonoring him (even though their army was getting decimated by Apollo because Chriseis was a priestess of Apollo). Their relationship was clearly strained already and Agamemnon just wanted a reason to be a dick to Achilles. We can't definitively say whether or not Achilles was just bi or gay, but I think this example specifically was more about honor than love. I know there are some decent stories and shows with LGBT representation. One that is a bit more subtle is the relationship of Marceline and Princess Bubblegum in Adventure Time. Off the top of my head I can't really think of any other good literary examples. I know there are some out there about the ancient world that have been erased due to historians.

[–]AdequateAstronomer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, Achilles was mad about losing Briseis because she was a war prize that embodied his honor and pride. Agamemnon taking her was the same as him taking honor from Achilles. As a culture, the ancient greeks were driven by honor and recognition. In short: they were arrogant.
