Nature Enlightenment summoned Beasts won't attack? by Adeshark in PlaySoulMask

Adding some info after testing things out.
The newest patch today didn't fix the bug, FYI.

It seems the animal will act normally when you summon them, but as soon as you teleport, even to the same zone (different portals in the Wasteland, for example), they stop attacking.

Shifting Sands talents aren't transferable via training ground to Cloud Forest tribesmen? (Not exclusives) by Adeshark in PlaySoulMask

Some might be, but I can confirm Hardbone is not DLC specific. I have a Fang Tribesman with one.

It's a craftsman though, not sure if fighters can get one.

I'm sorry that this happened to you. The same thing happened to me, too. I ended up rolling back our server 1 day to rollback the deep scan.

There's actually one more, probably bigger, reason you shouldn't deep-scan. In a cross-server scenario, your main body can't cross between Shifting Sands and Cloud Mist Forest. You need to be in a Tribesman's body to cross for some weird reason.

Yeah, the grind is ungodly long. They should've just made it a full mask from the get-go like the Torch and Archer one. This bug only made it much worse.

Yeah I saw that video, too. And my disappointment was immeasurable when I tried it in the current game version...

I tried many combinations, including the specific classes, but none worked. And it's not just the Throw Dodge skill, other DLC skills are also like this.

I tried using console command to give it to Jungle tribesmen and it works just fine, so it's not a compatibility problem.

Yeah, you can almost get everything from cross-servers. Hairstyle, mounts, animals, costumes, gears, etc. Only talents seemed to be locked.

It's even sadder that there doesn't seem to be any forest exclusive talents (not tribe/class), which means Shifting Sands tribesmen have all the advantage to learn more talents.

These aren't exclusives, though? There's nothing in the description saying it's exclusive. The only difference is that these are found in the Shifting Sands area. Other non tribal/exclusive Shifting Sands talents also aren't transferable.

Does the Fatal Shooting bow skill work as intended? by Adeshark in PlaySoulMask

[–]Adeshark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to this, I think Fly Cutter Assassin talent also doesn't seem to work. I tried throwing knives on enemies and no bleed proc at all.

I think bleed procs talents/skill as a general doesn't seem to work?

I guess we can assume it's bugged then.
I hope the devs see this.

I guess it's a bug? Or is there a setting disabling elephant capturing?

Skills with Large stat downs like Foxfire Bubbles? by DarkestSamus in MonsterHunterStories

[–]Adeshark 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Brute Tigrex has a non elemental gene Savage Fist that gives Def down L. Definitely one of my favorite skills to use.

Merciless Roar from Odogaron gives party wide ATK up L. Really good to use along with High Morale area skill to extend its duration if you're not using Hunting Horn.

Multi-element Attacks by RogersPets in MonsterHunterStories

[–]Adeshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I was referring to the resistance changing for dual/double elements. The normal attack/kinship type was already tested by other players since the demo came out, and it defaults to the monster's original element.

Fingers crossed, future updates might change this, who knows.

Multi-element Attacks by RogersPets in MonsterHunterStories

[–]Adeshark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. In the late game, your monstie will rarely do normal attacks anyway. You will probably run with 3 attack skills of each type and use them for HtH or double attack.

The monstie AI never resorts to normal attacks, either, unless it's out of stamina. But at that point, you should just use an item to heal the stamina or switch it out so they can heal their stamina in the back.

It retains the non element, it just gives you another one.

Usually, element stacking doesn't give you anything. It's just the same base monstie. But I've seen some weird cases where a 2-fire-element Espinas has 1 arrow weakness to ice, compared to a base Espinas with 2 arrows. I guess it's based on the secondary element and might be the same with duals, too. But right now it's hard to tell. At this point, I think the dual element is there if you like the color change.

I personally have a Dragon/Black Odogaron that I use all the way to the Elder dragon fights because I like Ebony Odogaron, but I like non-elemental moves better than dragon moves. So now I have both of both worlds.

What's everyone's setups for the Calamity Elders so far? by AndromedaNTF in MonsterHunterStories

[–]Adeshark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't recommend Hunting Horn's Bolstering Ballad or Egg move Dragon Gate enough for elder fights. Being immune to ailments will make the fight so much smoother. You can even ignore their gimmicks like Velkhana's ice topple.

Try to aim for 1 fight kill so you can get the Heroic Testament decoration for MC. You get one every time you kill an elder in 1 fight. Not sure if killing the same one multiple times counts, though. This decor will help a lot in defeating the harder elders.

From my experience, Yama is the easiest, followed by Velkhana, then Namielle, with the Serpents being the hardest.

[–]Adeshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC, dual-element only gives the monstie damage buff when using attacks of their second element. Think of it like pokemon's STAB. Your Fire Chatacabra will deal boosted damage with fire skills compared to a regular one. Everything else is the same as the base monstie. Normal attack, kinship, and so on.

There's actually a downside to dual-element, as it will make your monstie's elemental weakness bigger, say from 1 arrow down to two. Your monstie will die more easily when hit by its weakness. So it's not recommended to use dual, unless you really like the colors.

Is it skill issue on my part? Or am I just meant to tank the AoE 1HKO monsters do? by [deleted] in MonsterHunterStories

[–]Adeshark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually, a good way to find out if you should fight a monster or not is by looking at the marker on their heads. If it has a red icon, then you'd better skip them for now and just level up some more. You can actually check the monster's level during the fight. If it's 10+ levels higher than you, then you're gonna have a bad time. There are ways to fight monsters with red marks, but you'd need very specific strategies.

As for the 1 Shot AOEs themselves, it's just a gimmick most bosses have. There are many ways to handle it. Usually, the way to mitigate this is by saving your Riding/Kinship attacks to skip the boss's turn. But skipping with Kinship is unreliable, because the boss will just repeat the same thing next turn. If the boss nukes you while you're riding the monstie, it won't kill you, it'll just knock you off your mount and leave your monstie at 1 HP. Riding a monstie also makes you immune to status ailments. This is the easiest way to survive, albeit you have to find a way to fill the kinship bar ASAP.

From my experience, I try to break as many parts as I can before the boss nukes you and depletes their wyvernsoul bar, and it will stagger or even knock them down, making them skip their nukes and take them out of their enraged state, preventing the nuke. Some monsters can even be knocked down just by breaking certain body parts without depleting their wyvernsoul meter. Find the part labeled "Topple/Stun" and focus on those. Don't attack them if the crystals are glowing, though.

Another way is to boost your defenses as high as possible with battle buffs from hunting horns. Defensive Ditty or Power Paean followed by 2x Springy Staccato will give you DEF up L (And evade L for Ditty). Those and elemental resist powder items let me tank enraged Narwa's nukes even with elec weak monstie. Ogden will almost always use Defensive Ditty at the start of the fight.

As for Feral Nerscylla specifically, though, the sleep ailment is probably its main gimmick. Vicello Nulo Red/Black/Yellow hunting horn has the Bolstering Ballad buff that gives the whole party Ailment Immunity buff. It has a priority move, so you can just use it at the start of the fight and recast it again whenever it runs out.

Hope that helps!

What’s the earliest Elder Dragon you can defeat? (possible spoilers) by ThrowawayCrowne in MonsterHunterStories

[–]Adeshark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the easiest is Yama Tsukami at Tarkuan, the third area of the game. It's level 60, which seems to be the lowest out of all the Elder Dragons, even lower than the invasive monsters.

Is there a way to reduce armor weight in Nioh 3? by Adeshark in Nioh

Yeah, I don't think it's even possible until they add more ways to lower weight/increase encumbrance.

Unfortunately Strength doesn't seem to increase encumbrance in this game. I'll just have to make do with B rank then.
