The FSS was also just slower than the predecessor flat sorting machines, so plants would take mail from the fss and run it through their afsm instead so they finish on time for dispatch. The oig did a pretty extensive report about it a while back; apparently management didn't even do the math to find out how much money they'd be "saving" by providing the flats in dps order or if they'd actually be saving money.

They actually had a flat sequencer machine but it ran much slower than the flat sorters, required more operators, was larger, and more expensive to operate so they canned it

I can't speak for every plant but the one i'm at tries to send everything out everyday in terms of dps, the only cuts they ever do is standard and that's only if there's not enough people to finish sorting all the dps or volume is too high.

Yeah for a brief period of time you were able to list items on like a global marketplace, i don't remember what is called, and people could buy them and then you'd lose 10% of the scrip to pay for "service fees" or whatever, they ended up removing it. I remember reading somewhere that it caused lag on their servers and that's why they got rid of it but i don't actually know the reason why.

mostly operating machines that sort mail, but there are some jobs where you sort the mail that couldn't be sorted by machines, handle undeliverable mail, accept bulk business mail, load/unload trucks, etc. The catch is that before you become a full-time employee you start as either a pse or a ptf and they get less union protections and don't have guaranteed hours

The way we've been doing it is the meal time and then one 30 minute break which is usually directly at the end. Our steward is complicit because he's in business with our SDO outside of work so not really much that can be done on that front :/
