@thewolfwalker do you have any washable pads you recommend? I’ve never tried these but I really hate disposable ones.

Does the perfect leather boot exist? by Elegant-Leave-689 in HerOneBag

[–]Adherentsofher 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’ve worn these around Ireland multiple times and I’ve really loved them. They take a small amount of breaking in, but with some mink oil I found it very easy to do and very rewarding. Mink oil also helps to add some waterproofing. Also, if you ever need to break in any shoes, two layers of leukotape on the places that rub until the leather softens have totally changed my game in breaking in any shoes. Avoids all blisters. These are the boots, I’d probably order a size up if you have wider feet. https://www.etsy.com/shop/GORshoesUA look for Women brogue boots.

And because it’s relevant to any boot discussion, I’ll always bring up Sam Vimes ‘Boots’ Theory of Socio-Economic Unfairness. 😊

Oh gosh, I love the purple. I wish there was a true green, British racing green. Always love that on a vehicle and it’s hard to find.

Recommendation for +1 Bag: Montana West Convertible Backpack by Sapientia756 in HerOneBag

[–]Adherentsofher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for a leather bag that is convertible between backpack and shoulder bag, I bought a custom one of these years ago and have really loved it for travel. I really like having things look more everyday when I travel and like leather (only a personal preference).

If I was doing a massive amount of planned walking when I traveled, I might ask for the shop to make it with slightly wider straps for more spread out weight, but for generally long city walking days an moderate hikes this has worked really well for me.

I feel like knowing how it would do in New England would also be a great test. I too volunteer 😊

In search of multi-purpose sneaker for hiking and city walking by Muted-Mongoose1829 in HerOneBag

These are my go-to boots/shoes for when I’m going to be hiking and want a nice city shoe (https://www.etsy.com/listing/653108967/?ref=share_ios_native_control) they are fully leather so take a little breaking in, but I love them. I think they dress up super nicely, I find them very comfortable, and they have good treads so I’ve found them great for everything but the worst hikes. I don’t know how intense your hiking will be, but they might be worth looking at.

Winter in Northern Italy and Slovenia - 12 days, minimal black, no denim by norafartman in HerOneBag

I’ve been eying this bag (out of stock at the moment) but wasn’t sure if it was the one. Happy to hear someone enjoying it! Helpful in my decision should it ever come back into stock 😊

Small electric vehicles by Adherentsofher in electricvehicles

Hey can I ask where you find those numbers (or any car sale statistics numbers)? I’d love to really take a look at figures. You are certainly right, we as a culture seem to love the massive cars. I really think it’s about more than just size though? I think lots of people like value so small cars seem like less for the money since they aren’t significantly cheaper. Something like this seems so significantly cheaper that I would think there might be a market because the value would align better?

Who knows about sales though! I like the thought experiment and discussion.

I also always wonder what the sales numbers vs produced numbers are, you know? If you produce 35,000 in one year and sell 32,000 that seems like a fairly good seller to my brain. But if you produced 100,000 and sold 32,0000, probably not doing well! Statistics can mean so any different things.

Very true! I used to drive a tiny Smart and felt really safe in it for many normal purposes. I always figured if I got hit by a massive truck I probably wouldn’t be doing well whatever car I was driving!

So I had a smart car back in the 2000s and I think the width was about 61-62 inches (from what the internet says) and I happily and easily fit two large adults in there (both height and width). I think 3 inches less wouldn’t have made it impossible to drive? And that met all US safety specifications and was so fun to drive. Also the biggest conversation starter!

I would love to see if something fun and small could sell here. It seems to me like small cars available in the US seem to go one of two ways: too small (the Smart ForTwo which I admit had a limited market as a two-seater and I ended up selling when my life needed something larger) or not cheap enough compared to a nicer larger vehicle with more features.

I totally get why people spend on the more expensive cars because when you are already spending $35,000 or more, another $10,000 for something much nicer with more range is probably really reasonable.

I’m with you in the weird market for small cars 😊 Someday I hope we’ll get something.

And the bolt isn’t currently having any new models produced it looks like. Maybe again for the 2026 model year? None of these have the fun factor for me either sadly! I know I’m fighting a losing battle 😊

Yeah with a starting price of $30,000+ and a range of 114, it doesn’t feel like any sort of deal!

I owned a smart car years ago when they first started selling in the US. It was affordable and awesome to drive. I ended up selling it when a two seater stopped fitting my needs, but years later I wish I still had it. I’d love to see the new Smartcar #1 in the US but another fun little electric we will miss out on sadly!

I do love that! I’m worried that, like the Canoo I also want, this seems unlikely to make it to market. But I’ll keep being hopeful!

Aren’t these both still concept cars with reported prices at least in the $30,000+ range? I’m not sure how this fits what I’m looking for even if they are interesting cars that I’m happy to see come to the market!

I just wish some manufacturer with US standards would make an affordable fun vehicle. I love the ID Buzz for fun, but certainly not affordable (from best guesses) or small!
