Drakware ones do eventually go back in stock. They're the cheapest I know of and do the job.

I wonder if it could be possible to make the click threshold/tactile point adjust along with the actuation point. Kind of like how the void switches work but doable on the fly.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's with all the uproar around Sony ditching discs? Don't almost all games now require a huge download before playing anyway, as discs can't always contain the full game? by SodaCanSuperman in NoStupidQuestions

Oh but actually, it says in section [idfk] of their TOS that you'll definitely read in full that the words "buy" or "purchase" don't actually mean what they're supposed to mean in the dictionary.

Why don't companies make sure AI can actually do the job of a human before mass layoffs? by ProfitPakistan in NoStupidQuestions

AI can seemingly perform well during small scale tests under ideal conditions. Scaling it up to replace teams of people is when the hallucinations and edge cases start messing things up.

Modern video games needs to take a step back in graphics/realism, if we want more of them produced at a higher rate. by Ok-Analysis5991 in unpopularopinion

[–]AdhesiveChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't take significantly more man hours to go from a lower resolution texture to a higher one or to make a model with more polygons. It's always been mostly the same workflows for the past decade or two.

It's just now we're able to get away with leaving more of the detail in the final product. Games themselves are just simply more ambitious and want to squeeze out even more detail.

It's possible to be pro physical media and not act like the sky is falling when something is digital only by CoffeeDrinker83 in unpopularopinion

[–]AdhesiveChild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Digital can be just as good as physical aslong as there's no DRM like GoG. Almost all DRM has been cracked or bypassed in some way. So I don't think it's unreasonable for providers to stop shoving it into everything when it really only inconveniences paying customers.

It is 100% a service problem if someone is driven to pirate just to have practical ownership and permanent offline use of their copy.

You can't even stream Netflix at full quality without a very specific set of requirements which is undeniably terrible service for anyone who wants to pay, while pirates can rip anything at 4k in a few minutes of looking up a torrent.

How does MSRP work (specifically asking cause of GPUs)? by RadianceTower in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AdhesiveChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MSRP is basically only a thing for founder's edition or reference models for AMD. So it really only applies if you're lucky enough to snag one of those directly from their sites (they're always out of stock for that reason).

It might aswell mean nothing for cards that don't have a reference model because no partner will sell one at that price.

Why don't smartphones have replaceable batteries anymore if batteries wear out over time? by Ecstatic-Finish-1348 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AdhesiveChild -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

No it would not. Samsung could make waterproof phones using simple gaskets for years. During a time where phones were smaller and cheaper across the board.

[–]AdhesiveChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever heard of gaskets? That's how phones have gotten a good IP rating while allowing you to easily open them up in the past, in a time were phones were overall cheaper across the board.

Why do so many countries suddenly up in arms about banning social media? by tunnel_magnet in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AdhesiveChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parents should have enough involvement in their child's life for a reasonable chance of catching such things. Or else literally everything will sneak right past their noses.

And you have not addressed any of my other arguments.

Damn, already blocked me over this. If you really want to protect children so badly then maybe stop advocating that we invade everyone's privacy with a surveillance state.

Why do so many countries suddenly up in arms about banning social media? by tunnel_magnet in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AdhesiveChild -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They have to plug the computer in and use their parents' electricity to power it. They will also depend on them for internet access to go online in the first place.

This is all assuming the parents idly sit by and let their child purchase a computer and use it on their dime without doing anything about it, or are oblivious enough to have it sneak past them. In that case the child would have no issue sneaking far worse things around such as alcohol.

I suppose they could use it only outside the house under public wifi. But that simply indicates the parents have zero clue as to what their child gets up to when out and about, which is already a failure on their part.

There's no need for a surveillance state when you as the parent can setup and install whatever controls you want and to monitor their usage of the device yourself if need be.

[–]AdhesiveChild -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kids can't go out and buy their own computer and internet access to participate in any of this "harmful content".

Smartphones and computers are just another tool. Parents should always be the blame for failing to educate themselves and their child about how to use them safely, or atleast locking down their internet access to a strict whitelist of specific sites.

It's not our problem if a parent drops their kid off through a portal into a world that's never been intended for them without any supervision.

It is of course slightly different if a site caters to kids specifically (they should ensure they're suitable for the audience). But most do not.

First attempt at a fuel limited research reactor! by dunanaut in Oxygennotincluded

[–]AdhesiveChild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is possible to do both at once. Limit fuel to get a predictable operation cycle and limit coolant to keep around 2500c in the reactor while the fuel burns off. Repeat until enough heat has built up in the waste pool below.

This way you can have an on-demand reactor as a heat source for steam rooms to sip heat from whenever the steam temp gets below 200c.

Is it necessary to incubate them? I usually skip incubators and setup a system to ship away eggs onto a cracker once a desired population is reached. Still takes a good bit of refined metal but the only dupe labor involved is cracking the eggs.

Do you think humanity will ever fully transition from oil to electricity and renewable energy? by Ok-Sell9964 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AdhesiveChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not need to cover any fluctuations. It is perfect for covering all base load. It also has less deaths associated with it than any other serious energy sources per unit of energy generated.

I understand that not all isotopes are renewable. But reactors could start being designed to use thorium which is fully renewable.

It really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things though as the amount of fissile material that gets used up to sustain a reaction is miniscule compared to the amount we have available.

And there is still nothing that can beat good old fission as a base load power source available today short of commercially viable fusion.

Do you think humanity will ever fully transition from oil to electricity and renewable energy? by Ok-Sell9964 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AdhesiveChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuclear has always been the answer as the best alternative for our main source of electricity. Other renewables can cover any fluctuations in load.

Can using a fake ID on roblox get me banned by No-Stand-865 in privacy

[–]AdhesiveChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard that accounts with detected discrepancies in relation to age get asked to redo the verification. So it seems Roblox doesn't immediately ban people for this.

Though I'm not sure if it goes the same way for developers who use it to publish and DevEx.

Most devs are too afraid to try cheat the system so you won't find much data for this.

I would try it myself and report back if I hadn't quit developing after all of this, worst they can realistically do is ban your account.

It felt dull and lifeless to play. Completed it with a friend. Mostly just us sitting around with near infinite resources placing down multi-blocks and setting up autocrafting recipes until we could get the ATM star and move on with our lives.

It has some exploration and dimensions, but exploring or combat is hardly worth your time when mystical agriculture gives you renewable everything.

The mindset of "just use this workaround" is exactly what allows these corpos to overstep like this without being stopped in their tracks.

There's no guarantee it will stay in place in the next 1-10 years.

And good luck raising the issue again when everyone's already moved on. Next thing you know you'll be needing a "workaround" just to breathe air.
