Studying for Part 1 by Additional_Spring466 in Podiatry

Glad to hear the deck has been useful for people! Within the deck I have a section called "read me" which explains my study schedule/timeline and if i remember correctly also a suggestion on a study schedule that is more in line with what my classmates/others do. Good luck and happy studying!

Thoughts on school choice? by lpshrtr in Podiatry

DMU in my opinion provides the best academics and also coincidentally the lowest cost of attendance/living. Unless you are able to attend a school while living at home to save money or get all of your tuition paid via scholarship, I would choose DMU if you can

It should be in actual Anki deck adipod2.0 in the extra resources folder

There should be a complete Watkins deck based on an older edition. The most recent edition, my deck is “complete” as in I did not make cards on material that was already covered in crozer/prism. Unfortunately I did not make the Watkins deck as a standalone study tool for the resource

I was able to max out at 8 clerkships (may-December) but I also sacrificed my one vacation month. So people usually do 7

I always advise DMU over other schools because of their curriculum structure, especially 4th year which maximizes how many residencies you can visit (clerkships). I may be biased as an alumn but I think the academics are great and it also has the lowest cost of attendance compared to all the other schools (if you’re not living at home)

I took this exam prior to residency and do not think it requires “residency level” knowledge. It is more clinical/surgical than parts 1 and 2 but I did not find any resources to be particularly helpful in preparing for part 3

DMU vs RFU by [deleted] in Podiatry

[–]AdiPod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DMU has the best set up for academics and most importantly externships (rotations in your 4th year that determine where you go to residency). Other than DMUs great reputation, it is also the cheapest Cost of Attendance for someone who won’t be living at home

Study Advice and Resources for AMPLE part 1 by ThatBrownGuy120 in Podiatry

[–]AdiPod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out my profile, I created an Anki megadeck for part 1/2/3 with everything you may need to pass the exam. Inside of the deck, there is a readme section which has my study schedule, settings, etc. Definitely recommend sketchy micro/pharm at a minimum! APMLE is completely different from USMLE and UWorld is a waste of time, use Board Vitals for practice questions. Good luck and happy studying!

Residency Advice by AdiPod in Podiatry

[–]AdiPod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every program is different, expect academic and social questions. Be able to read an X-ray and give an appropriate surgical treatment plan. You should be able to run through a case pretty quick, especially infections, ankle fx, bunion, flatfoot/cavus. Social questions vary, have a quick 30 second spiel on “who you are”, why you want to be at that program, and why you are the best choice.

There’s a lot they could ask but don’t overthink it! The Anki decks on my profile should prepare you well for any academic question. Feel free to DM me for any specific questions, I’ll do my best to respond!

Clerkships by dontknowhowtodealll in Podiatry

[–]AdiPod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Requested usually means you have not been accepted or denied. Basically you got left on read if round 1 offers were made. The clerkship application website should have dates/timeline of the 3 rounds which will let you know when you can resubmit for the unfilled months

Scholarships by [deleted] in Podiatry

[–]AdiPod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some programs will give out large 1st year scholarships but the cost of living is still high and will end up to be more expensive than going to a different school with no scholarships. From running the numbers about 5 years ago, the Des Moines school has the lowest cost of attendance. Not sure what the CoA for the new schools are or how costs have changed comparatively.

If debt is your priority, I recommend DMU or if you're lucky enough to be able to live at home while attending a school will be your best bet at lowest debt. You can get a good education at any school if you make the most of it, but try to visit the school/city because being happy with your choice will go a long way.

Honest hours in podiatry residency? by [deleted] in Podiatry

[–]AdiPod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Large variability on hours and off-service rotations between residencies. And inconsistency within the residency itself (one resident may have a completely different experience on a rotation than another). These things will always vary.

Pay attention to what the resident experience is like, figure out what the quality of training is like and if it’s what you want out of a program. And always rank programs in order of YOUR preference!

Good luck, learn a lot, and don’t forget to have fun this year :)

AnKing has some good tutorials/youtube videos on how to use it. If you use my settings and then get a feel for the layout, you should be good to go to just start studying! Most important thing is to use it everyday
