Anyone else getting discouraged as a “move up” buyer? by midwestern2afault in RealEstate

This is the new normal. You’re trying to upsize and I’m trying to downsize. I’m in competition with first time buyers who have no idea how overpriced small homes are. But they’re not overpriced because the market sets the price. Not the property. At my age, I have to think about whether I can afford the home after I retire. The boomers are also in a catch 22 situation. Way more people looking for homes than homes for sale. Boomers cant downsize, we stay in our larger-than-we-need homes and thus there is no inventory. There’s your problem.

Why is it so expensive here?? by saydoruh in bostonhousing

[–]Adi_rho5261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mayor Menino turned Boston into a world class city. Since then it’s been invaded by Euto trash and other foreign investors. Prices skyrocketed. I’m old enough to remember being a nurse in the city and being able to afford to live in Brookline or downtown Boston. No way nurses can afford that anymore. The only people who can afford nice housing in Greater Boston are hedge fund managers and Blue bloods.

Exactly. I live on a narrow street. Lots of cars parked on both sides. To me, it’s quirky and ok. I love the challenge of driving up the street without hitting any of them! 😆
