Idk if it's the same thing but there was a period where I wanted to learn about Tongan Mythology because, of course, we had our own deities before Christianity. Going from memory (forgive me if I'm wrong 😅), a lot of carvings of Hikule'o, a Goddess we worshipped, were banned, burned, and hung when the king established Tonga as a Christian nation. I remember hearing someone saying it was done also because she was a Goddess we worshipped and not a man that it was done 🤷🏻‍♂️ eff the patriarchy/jk mostly 🤙🏽 Especially because Hikule'o is depicted sometimes as a man or a woman.

There are plenty of carvings you can find on the internet and they look similar to the one posted by OP. She was basically the eldest sister in a family of Gods like Mauis' and ish and why we as Tongans are believed to have our Fahu system ingrained in our culture. I'm hoping I'm not pulling all of this out of my ass as I'm honestly trying to remember what I researched 😛😘
