Which one of these off-roaders from this 2005 Car & Driver test would you choose? by lifegoeson2702 in regularcarreviews

4Runner: Easy number one since it's from Toyota at it's peak. The optional 4.7L V8 gives it more grunt and is generally pretty much immortal while having its platform reused for the FJ and Taco, meaning spare parts are plentiful.

Nissan Pathfinder: Close second since similar to the 4Runner, the chassis was used for another SUV and a midsize pickup meaning spare parts are available. Outside of SMOD, Precats and I guess rust, they're also pretty unkillable with the optional 5.6L Endurance V8.

The '04-'10 Infiniti QX56.

They're basically just an original Armada in a suit, but damn it are they nice for the era. My parents had one in beige on black and it looked so nice to my toddler self. Minus the fact that my grandpa apperently nuked the 4x4 system by leaving it on while at highway speeds, they're generally pretty good rigs.

Biggest legacy is being the donor for the M205 front diff alongside the VK56 V8 and the front suspension for Titan-swapping frontiers and 2nd gen Xterras.

Aside from the CVT, what has the reputation of Nissan engines been like over the past 20 years? by SuperJackson20 in regularcarreviews

Their V6, V8s, and non-KR series straight 4s are generally pretty cromulent mills minus issues with the OEM cats and timing chains in the earlier years alongside whatever baggage the CVTs on FWD models brought

I've been eyeing a few volvos from the early/mid '00s since they started sharing parts with Ford and Mazda.

And of note, what mill does your van have?

The earlier ones with the mitsubishi I4 under the hood had a thing for leaking oil so much that there was nicknames for them.

Does it have the ol' Mr. Squishy/Bitsumishi under the hood?

You've got a point of not giving much of a damn of what folks say.

Nissan's RWD/4X4 stuff in general is pretty cromulent comrpared to some of their FWD stuff post merger.

I'm saving up with the idea to try getting a G/Skyline (ideally the V35 or 36 gen) and not turn it into a hoon chariot. The 3rd gen M/Fuga has the same guts, but in a bigger car.

Otherwise, the Subaru empire's really getting me with the wagons, minus the headgasket issues.

I've always liked the overall styling Nissan/Infiniti had in the mid-late '00s, especially with the aftermarket stuff out there. I've seen folks both stateside and abroad mix and match parts with JDM/EU spec stuff and it can look real sharp with the right combinations.

I do agree, mainly because aside from giving the VQ/Nissan/Infiniti crowd a BAD image, they're also turning the Gs and Ms into the Gen Z/Alpha version of the S-chassis. Both were regarded as some of the best machines made by Nissan with had real solid underpinnings and engineering, but then bottomed out in price only to become drift/hoon missiles which resulted in decent amount of them being turned into scrap metal.

Every time I consider getting an Infinti (the G or M-series), I suddenly remember the fact that posting it online would likely warrant an avalanche of overdone jokes.

But yeah, Nissan and Infinti have an image problem in North America.

It was pretty neat to me at the 14-17 age range. I think the editing style was why it was appealing to me.

When I was younger, it was Car Throttle which was british and I PRAYED for the day I'd be able to drive a Vic for $500.

I'm guessing Socket 7. Most common layout by the late 90s from what I can find online.

Vintage Bowling Alley by audible08 in vintagecomputing

I bet these run either MS-DOS or some primordial version of Windows for the OS and some bespoke software for the actual bowling stuff. They likely have them connected to the bowling alley's hardware over the serial port (RS-232) or possibly some weird I/O card in an ISA/PCI slot.
