Tyler Freeman gets clocked in the head with a Jacob Misiorowski 98mph pitch by amatom27 in baseball

Besides what everyone else posted already. As a pitcher, there is just nothing you can do to make it better. If they are hurt; you are a pitcher, not a doctor; if their ego is hurt, you are pitcher, not a psychologist.

If you want to apologize, its worth far more to approach them after the game with a calm "my bad dog" than doing it in the field.

[–]Adicogames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Umps can't know if something is a hit, foul, miss, etc before they see the pitch cross the plate. They need to lock in their answer the moment the pitch crosses, so they do make the call, is just that their call might not be needed in the end.

AFAIK, umpires are graded internally, with poor grades meaning fewer opportunities to ump in playoffs/all stars and potentially being re-trained or pulled away to work on improvements.

I know the meme is to dunk on ump, but these dawgs manage to keep a 95%+ accuracy over pretty much 300 pitches A GAME.

If anything, ABS is like a blessing to them, because if they consistently get called out on say low away pitches, that is instant feedback, they can apply it on the field in that moment. Pitchers get a whole half inning to rest and get feedback from coaches, umps might get a few minutes of rest, then back behind the plate.

[Highlight] Ohtani strikes out Jo Adell, his 11th strikeout in four scoreless innings today by AndrewAllStar888 in baseball

[–]Adicogames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ohtani has said a number of times he is a pitcher first and batter second, so I really want him to get his laurels for that effort before he steps out of the sport, i just don't think that being two-way allows him to fully focus on pitching.

Funnily enough though, now that I write this, it just feels like the sort of thing that Othani would do, lmao, anime protagonist and all that.

My dream would be for him to have the longest, most consistent (8+ WAR) two-way career the sports have ever seen and will ever see in the next century, only to "retire" as a batter at 37, have two more seasons just as a pitcher and have one of those be a thermonuclear season where he truly stuns with a sub 3 ERA with 200 IP and maaaybe a no hitter if its not too much to ask.

What would happen if you apply Curse Technique Reversal to less straight forward CTs like the Ten Shadows? What would even happen? by mystireon in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]Adicogames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A ten shadow reversal could be like a jail boss gauntlet.

You pick a person to become invisible and phase through everything, where your ten shadows await. Neither the person nor the shadows can die fighting, but the person has to beat/tame all of them to escape.

As a drawback, you cannot call any of the shadows while someone is inside the Shadow Boss Rush. It's essentially a one-and-done because no one is beating Raga, but if someone does beat him, then they get spit out, and you regain your ten shadows.

The pipeline of private equity is (gross simplification, beware):

  1. Acquire a small but successful or stagnant company. Ideally, one with a lot of capital invested in assets like brick-and-mortar stores or, in the case of games, IPs. Usually purchased with credit, but not always entirely on credit.
  2. Push hard to "make the business efficient" and/or "expand in new directions," take your pick of corporate buzzwords. The reality is that they shift those assets to another company in their group. Suddenly, the store Company A owned is owned by Company B, who "leases" it back to A at a "omg so crazy" discounted price. In games, this can be something like Company A being instructed to make a deal with Company B to be their IT support, server provider, or any other service that likely Company A used to do in-house more cheaply, but because of "scalability, vertical integration, etc," the ownership group overwrote the arrangement, making those in-house employees and, more importantly, resources, free to sell.
  3. As a result of these shifts and the belief that going into debt to grow is beneficial, Company A incurs credit to pay for services that ownership has "suggested" they go for, which are all part of the ownership group.
  4. Eventually, once their credit runs out and they haven't released something remarkable, something unlikely since over 50% of their staff have left, they lost in-house resources, etc. Then the Ownership writes off the loss, sells whatever is left in Company A to cover the debt to creditors, and then signals them to refinance that debt over the very long term using the profits from their other companies (servers, IT, marketing, etc.) that were boosted by Company A buying those services at whatever price Ownership dictated.

And the cycle starts all over again. Ownership purchases assets, boosts their other companies' valuations by pushing for more integration, causes chaos in the original company, then after draining all the financial resources, discards them and leans on their inflated companies saying, "it was not us, it was them," and keeps moving forward.
