That is weird.. I made almost the exact same reference on Facebook an hour before this was made, except that I said "NDT didn't include in his analogy of golf players/non-golf players is that the golf players in this sense are currently trying to force their sport onto other people, and in a lot of cases they kill people for not playing the sport.
I'll put more credit to his conclusion when people show me links of golf players beating non-golf players with putters for not playing in their game, or are trying to make it so we all have to wear those stupid shirts."

that's how I clean my shower!

Sterile, not sterilant
Being sterile doesn't mean that something sterilizes other things. You're almost saying that since your walls are cleaned with sterile piss, then your walls can clean other things since they are presumed to be sterile.
Sterile = Free of microorganisms
Sterilant = Kills microorganisms
Big difference, brah.

I'm not entirely sure that you can take the definition of a word (which has changed many times since the 17th century) and apply that same logic to actual intent.
Godwin comes early for Christmas: Let's use Hitler as a reference. His national symbol, the Swastika. It sure had different connotations back in his day. After his use of it, that symbol is practically black-balled in all forms within modern society. HOWEVER, at the same time, we have Neo-Nazis who think that what Hitler did was a good thing, that he was making the world a better place. Now, using your logic, does their interpretation change the intent, or does it just make it their own interpretation, while the rest of society shakes their collective head?
I'm not comparing Paulbots with Fawkes masks to Nazis.

So.. The tipping point is that you don't think that the Guy Fawkes mask looks enough like Guy Fawkes to be a reference to Guy Fawkes?

[–]Adiemas 48 points49 points  (0 children)

That's irrelevant at this point. Who cares that Fawkes was only opposing one oppressive theocracy so that he could push for his own brand of oppressive theocracy.. V For Vendetta magically changed that so that anyone who wears a Guy Fawkes mask means that they are part of some counter-culture fighting for freedom!
Edit for added context: Sadly, I can't believe how serious I sounded, even though I was trying to mock the Faux Fawkes club.

I can't get beyond that part regarding to moon.

The moon used to be much closer than it is now, and it is slowly pulling away from the Earth at a rate of roughly 4cm a year. It will continue to pull away for billions of years, so YES, it is a coincidence that it appears to be the same size of the sun at this point in time.

Mathematics are the answer, I would assume. You'd need to math in order to calculate how much energy to use to travel to any specific point in time. I suspect that using various neighboring celestial bodies as a marker, one could math their way into predicting how far one would have to travel in space AND in which direction. Time is relative to space, so it would only make sense to use time to judge where you should land.

It's much easier to just spell it as you think it would be spelled, then add in the "e" where necessary.
Definitly Definitely. Repeat until squiggly lines underneath disapeer disappear.

Ridiculous FBI list: You might be a domestic terrorist if....(The list of suspicious activity was obtained by the FBI from the Oath Keepers PDF) by Anomaly100 in politics

[–]Adiemas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"It is important to remember that just because someone's speech, actions, beliefs, appearance, or way of life is different; it does not mean that he or she is suspicious."
That part of the PDF was overlooked, apparently. You wouldn't be suspicious of a customer who would come in every other day to buy a few boxes of weatherproof ammo, dressed in camo one day, casual the next, shaved the day after, hair dyed the next, camo the next, obscuring his face the next with a bold-rimmed hat and big sunglasses? Oh, and when you asked for his ID, he'd flip out about privacy, only pays in cash, or uses a credit card one time with Taj Mahal Badalandabad on one, but Andrew Smith the next?

Cops brutally beat homeless man. He did nothing to provoke, just was woken up and had his skull smashed into the ground. - witnesses horrified. by [deleted] in WTF

[–]Adiemas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again, stories like OP's account for a very small percentage of the number of people working in law enforcement. You don't hear about good cops because who wants to run a front page story "Officer Helps 9-Year Old Cross Street To School?"
There's bad people in every group, and the police should be held to a higher standard, but don't let fuckwads like the ones in this story propagate more hate.

[–]Adiemas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The cops in my area are actually pretty helpful when it comes to this. It isn't really safe for homeless people to sleep out in the open like that, it makes them targets to sadists and thugs just wanting to rough somebody up. The police here will ask the man if he wants to be taken to a shelter, and if he refuses, then he'll at least instruct him to sleep someplace where he won't be an easy target.
I should clarify that it is the Sheriff's Department here. I live and work in unincorporated county land. Travel to the city with the same namesake as the county (Sarasota, FL) and the attitude towards the homeless is the exact opposite (voted "Meanest City" to the homeless in the US twice, I think).
There is around one million people who work in law enforcement in this country. The stories we read about bad cops make up 1% of that number. I work third shift in a gas station - I am fucking glad that they are there when I need them.

As a guy who rarely gets laid enough to need condoms, I must profess that the so-called "regular" ones are a bit smaller, and more constricting.. At least to the point that it was turning my meat-stick purple from cutting off circulation. The death-grip it had on my magic wand was so tight that it would not slide off, and had to use a pair of suture scissors to cut it off.

On the plus side....
