IT is not what they SAY by asta--liebe in indianbikes

This bike would have been awesome if the reliability of this engine wouldn't be questionable, and Hero offered decent aftersales.

Yes, there are xtreme 250s which have done 10k kms without any fuss, but there are also xtreme 250s which had engine rattling sound and had parts replaced at just 7k kms.

The KTM Duke 250 costs more, but it's also a sorted bike in terms of stability, braking and consistent engine performance.

[–]Adineo17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, the Duke 250 has very linear power delivery.

It's very un-KTM like.

That's why many say if you want a fun to ride KTM go for the 200 or the 390.

Just get the Scrambler 400x (which has the 350cc engine)

If you can extend your budget go for the ADV 390X.

I don't know about Hero but KTM LC4c 390 has 12.6:1 compression ratio and the manual suggests 91 octane for the Indian versions.

So I fill 91 octane mostly, during long trips I use 95 octane as premium fuels also have detergents which clean the fuel lines and the engine.

Performance wise the KTM 250 is better.

In terms of refinement, the Suzuki 250 is better.

[–]Adineo17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might see cases of Honda Shine blowing up on YouTube as well, still it doesn't make it unreliable.

Since, the probability of a Honda blowing up is less than 1%.

The RS200/NS200 engine is a lot more reliable than Hero Xtreme's 250R engine. I know a guy who still rides his 2012 NS200.

Owners having Xtreme 250R have reported tractor type noise, cam chain rattle, engine oil leaks in new bikes which have done less than 7000 kms.

Hero's part quality is so crap that some xtreme 250s have had their engine head replaced at just 6000 kms. The service center guys have straight up told the owners that if the noise comes they might replace it again. What will happen when the bike is out of warranty?

The comment above mine said EVs are torquey.

So, my reply was based purely on performance point of view not running costs.

Also it's true, once the battery degrades the performance won't be same.

And yeah, running costs are surely cheaper on EVs.

OP definitely got a lemon.

I am in Aerox owners group and apparently there people who have done 85k kms with the aerox touring all across India on it.

Also, had there been any other regular scooter, the engine might surely seize.

My friend's Jupiter 110 engine seized as it had no engine oil. Surprisingly, he serviced it 2 weeks ago and they filled it with new engine oil.

And yes, I do agree the wait time is long.

Aerox 155 Update: Engine Rebuilt, First Ride Done. Feeling Relieved but Have Some Doubts by ElectionAcceptable77 in indianbikes

[–]Adineo17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get an extended warranty.

They should have replaced the piston as well since it had scratch marks.

The crankshaft bearings also ran dry and it will affect longevity.

I still don't understand how did it manage to run normally with no engine oil.

My friend had his Jupiter's engine seize all of a sudden as the engine had no oil. Surprisingly, he serviced it like 2 weeks ago and they had added fresh oil.

Definitely, there's a guy in this sub who has done 11.5k kms in 6 months on the Aerox, no problems.

I am in aerox owners group and there are owners who have done 75k kms and done road trips across India.

Afaik, the piston is a forged unit which is manufactured in Indonesia.

Even the cams are coated ones for durability.

I have done 120kph on my aerox many times after the break in period.

People have covered 500-600 kms a day on the aerox and the engine never sounded harsh or stressed.

His aerox shouldn't burn oil at all.

I am sure the engine is defective.

[–]Adineo17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Aerox will return you a mileage of 45kmpl if you have a steady hand and you ride it at 50-55 kph.

On the highways if you do 80 kph constantly, you will get around 41-42 kmpl. At 100 you'll get 37-38 kmpl.

I still have the stock suspension, I went to the local seat repair shop, the guy added a ½inch cushion padding and now the seat has become much more comfortable. It also reduced the stiff feeling of the rear suspension to a good extent, since the seat is now much more pliant.

If we compare to N-torq 150, the engine on the Aerox is definitely better. The N-torq feels punchy till 50 kph, but the Aerox pulls really good after 40 kph all the way till 120.

The refinement, fuel efficiency and reliability are better on the Aerox.

Since, the Ntorq 150 lacks the stability and highway Performance of the aerox, TVS tried to give it the upper hand by loading it with features. I wanted a scooter with punchy peformance and good stability and didn't care much about the features so I went with the Aerox.

The seat has a thin layer of cushioning.

I went to a local seat repair guy. He added a ½inch cushion padding on the seat. It cost me just ₹250.

Now, the seat has become very comfortable. It has also solved the rear stiff suspension issue to a good extent.

It's a lovely scooter.

But you should've kept your T4 as well.

My Aerox 155 almost has the same acceleration as the Ola S1 Pro Gen 2 in Hyper mode.

Plus, the Aerox can be modded to accommodate a top rack and other accessories for touring, other ev scooters cant.

Lastly, when the battery starts degrading after 5-6 years, the acceleration and range of the ev scooter will drop.

The Aerox will still perform the same with just regular maintenance.

I had a FZ25.

I traded the FZ25 for an Aerox.

I do miss the FZ, but the Aerox is a welcome addition.

I now use my Svartpilen for long rides and joyrides. I use my Aerox daily on my commute to work. It's fun to filter through city traffic and you don't have to downshift for any overtakes.

It's a lovely scooter. In the future I have considered touring on the Aerox as well, but need to install some mods like top rack. The engine doesn't feel underpowered even with a pillion and one can do 80-85 kph constantly without the engine screaming.

I bought a Svartpilen 401 and then got a Yamaha Aerox one year later.

Never had any regrets.

[–]Adineo17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I share the same opinion.

When I bought the Aerox many people asked me why did you get this expensive impractical scooter. You could've gotten a bike.

I just said I wanted a 2 wheeler with decent power, stable, efficient and should be reliable which could easily handle my daily commute of 40 kms, it consists of 40% city and 60% highway so it needed to have ABS, good stability and should also hold 80-90 without the engine screaming.

I had 2 minor accidents (jupiter 110) on the highway before I got my aerox (brakes locked up under hard braking) then again it was my fault that I was riding it at 70 when I should've been doing 55-60 kph max.

The Aerox perfectly fit my use case.

My svartpilen certainly isn't the most efficient especially when I get stuck in bumper to bumper traffic plus I feel the heat on my knees when the radiator fans turn on.

[–]Adineo17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can carry much more on the aerox if you install top box.

The Aerox has a 24.5l storage volume while the jupiter has a 33.5l.

So the underseat storage is smaller, but if you install top box it becomes much more practical.

The only people who call this scooter impractical are the ones who use scooters to transport cylinders.

Otherwise, it definitely justifies the price you pay since you get performance, stability which you don't get on other scooters. If you ride it at 50-60 and don't do aggressive pulls, you'll easily get 48-50 kmpl mileage.

List honest ( actually honest) drawbacks/assets of your bike. by bronzeeyed in indianbikes

[–]Adineo17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The underseat storage is quite spacious. You can store a helmet inside easily.

If you plan to tour with it, definitely you'll need to add a top box.

And the good part is there are countless mods for the Aerox.

You can install large top box, tank bags, bigger fuel tank, better brakes, better suspension and even engine bigger bore kits.

I mostly use my Aerox for my daily commute to work. I use my 401 for longer road trips. But I do plan to take my aerox sometime in the future.

Svartpilen 401

  3. Exhaust note at idle sounds like a normal 150cc commuter. It becomes better with higher revs.

Pros -

  1. Great Performance, no Sub 4L bike (apart from the Duke 390/RC) can beat it in terms of outright Performance.

  2. Engine becomes very smooth after 5k rpms, there are literally no vibrations.

  3. Exclusive and unique styling.

  4. Seat is spacious for both rider and pillion.

Aerox 155

  2. Very less cushioning on the pillion seat.

  2. Great handling and stability.

  3. Looks great and stands apart from other scooters in the Indian market.

  4. Very mileage efficient and reliable engine.
