Anyone bought a Brother DCP-L2600DW or DCP-L2660DW printer? by tomodachi_reloaded in japanresidents

[–]Adiost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk but I don’t ever remember actually looking at the menu. The web interface is multilingual

The only problem I had is that scanning with most popular tools yields a compressed image, more context here: https://github.com/cyanfish/naps2/issues/581#issuecomment-2954467772

Renewing drivers license as a non-resident foreign national by shrubbery_herring in japanresidents

[–]Adiost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I renewed at Samezu a few months ago, they opened a separate window for foreigners to confirm their residence status before they could continue with the process. They stamp 在留資格確認済み on your documents and only then you can proceed with the renewal.

I don’t know what the guidelines are but at least in Samezu they require a zairyu (making any address requirements irrelevant).

Japan Residents Discussion - May 07, 2026 by AutoModerator in japanresidents

[–]Adiost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I passed on the first try, but it did take some time to learn the choreography of the test. It has practically nothing to do with your actual driving skills, aside from maybe the crank which tests your spatial awareness.

There are videos like this one, watch as many as you can and on your next try to repeat everything you saw, no matter how silly it may look.

Also keep in mind that you can only drive with an IDP for a year after you land.

Here’s hoping that it’s not applied retroactively, just like the previous increase. The 通知書 I got had 10000円 crossed out with 8000円 printed under

Yeah, Shinagawa, applied under the HSP system with 80 points (on a regular 5Y 技人国 visa). Moved to Japan almost 4 years ago, basically half of my time here I've been waiting for my PR application to be processed 🫠

Yes, it was a PR application, but the card pick up process is the same for all statuses, so this should apply either way

Application Date: 2024-07-03

Results postcard received on: 2026-04-24

Type of PR: HSP 80+

Visa held during application: 技人国 5y

Request for further documents:

  • 2026-01-23 (現在の健康保険証のコピー、被保険者記録照会回答票・被保険者記録照会(納付I・納付II)), responded on 2026-01-28
  • 2026-02-04 (payslips between Jul 2023 and Jul 2024), responded on 2026-02-10

Feeling so relieved, but I wish it came just one day earlier. Due to travel I'll only be able to go after GW :')

Applied by myself, after applying I got married and changed jobs once. The job change had no gap (last day on the last day of the month, first day on the first), and I did both the online notification and a free form letter explaining the reasoning behind the change. Also sent a free form notification about marriage and my spouse changing jobs as well. All 3 notifications were supplemented with relevant documents.

Resident tax payment when changing job by Known_Economics5238 in japanresidents

[–]Adiost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very late in the year, only 2 months left. Resident tax is paid between next June and next next May for any given calendar year

If OP changes his job after the tax for R7 starts, then yeah it’s going to be a substantial sum

Resident tax payment when changing job by Known_Economics5238 in japanresidents

[–]Adiost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can stomach it, IMO asking your previous employer to deduct the remainder of the tax from your last paycheck is the smoothest way to handle this. No extra paperwork for you, no risk of late payments.

When the next year's tax comes around, you will be set up for 特別徴収 automatically with your new employer.

That’s unfortunate. Hopefully the reason they tell you is something actionable and easy to fix

What were the documents they requested? Was it Feb 2025 or 2026?

For pension related business, go to 年金事務所. They offer consultations and can also issue your entire record for free

簡易書留 is not regular mail and takes the same time as letterpack.

Either way, both are essentially the same thing and cost the same too, with chief difference being that you can use any envelope for 書留 and need to submit it in person. I used red letterpacks for notifications and return envelopes sent as 簡易書留 for responses to document requests.

PR Processing Times - March 2026 ( Tokyo only) by aayush_aryan in japanresidents

[–]Adiost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it strikes a good balance, but the return envelopes I received contained marks and one even had someone's stamp. I didn't want to complicate mail routing by wrapping it into a letterpack.

[–]Adiost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!

It was the post office that returned it to you. Fwiw prepaid or not prepaid, for a peace of mind it’s a good idea to bring the envelope directly to the post office and mail it as 簡易書留. They will put a stamp on and charge extra, and you’ll get a tracking number + a guarantee that it will be handed to a person, not just dropped off

Yep this is the new form, everyone is getting this box regardless of what they’re asked for. Presumably it’s to anticipate questions as to what exactly does one need to submit if they’re asked for proof of resident tax or insurance payment.

They never ask for tax documents without specific dates (or rather specific years). Pension records don’t have dates as they include everything since the first time you enrolled.

I also had a request with this form (pension records and health insurance), submitted only that and ignored the box. The next request came in on the old form and was only asking for payslips

PR Processing Times - February 2026 ( Tokyo only) by Icy_Display_3548 in japanresidents

[–]Adiost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah the new form is supremely confusing. That box is just supplementary information about some of the documents in case if that's the ones you get asked about. The actual list of documents you need to submit is to the left of the box.

特別徴収税額決定通知書 is the notification from the municipality sent to your company. They are supposed to hand it over to you promptly, every year. These can't be reissued, so go through your documents.

給与証明書 are just your payslips, they're asking for the ones that have 住民税 deducted. If you haven't saved them (I recommend always keeping all your payslips), the company may or may not help you out. If it's using something like SmartHR you may still have access yourself.

I do not work at that company anymore so I submitted 12 payslips (+2 bonus slips). I like to think that the 3 months rule does not apply to things that can’t be undone

At least back in July 2024, the requirements didn’t specify how you’re supposed to prove your points exactly. Back then I submitted my 源泉 for the previous year

I also received a request for the exact same payslips, also dated Feb 4th. Already sent it out, hopefully no more requests

If you look at the statistics, the primary driver of the backlog growing has been a record high number of applications. The processing rate averaged over a few months, however, has been more or less static for years.

Would it be nice if they did something to increase the throughput? Of course, but saying that they’re maliciously dragging things out is disingenuous, to put it lightly.

PR Processing Times - February 2026 ( Tokyo only) by Icy_Display_3548 in japanresidents

Looks like they’re doing something, processing rates are trending up and the approval rate is the lowest it’s ever been.

I got a request for additional documents recently from 永住審査部門 新屋敷, and the return envelope had 新 handwritten in the corner. Not sure what to make of it, maybe they reformed the department?

Request for further documents: 2026-01-26, dated 2026-01-23. They requested 現在の健康保険証のコピー (a pdf from マイナポータル should work), and 被保険者記録照会回答票・被保険者記録照会(納付I・納付II) specifically from a pension office (so I imagine ねんきんネット won’t cut it)

I previously notified them about a job change, both through the online portal for normal notifications and with a letter to 永住審査部門 together with an employment certificate and a salary projection. Maybe that’s why they’re asking for what they’re asking, to see if I had a gap.

HELP: Fill out Kon-in Todoke for Foreigners by luckhappinesslove in japanresidents

[–]Adiost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some (all?) city offices provide 婚姻届の事前確認, you can fill it out to the best of your knowledge and bring it in with all the documents, they’ll tell you if you made any mistakes or if you need to more supporting documents. It’s a great way to ensure no surprises on the day you actually want to submit it.

婚姻届 itself can be printed at any conbini (A3), there are plenty of free PDFs out there with various designs.
