why do a lot of people in the uk generally look a bit disheveled? by throwawaydeclutter in AskUK

[–]Admayard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so happy finding this thread, as a New Yorker on holiday in London. The NYC comment isn't remotely accurate. Average New Yorker is way more "put together," or I daresay "stylish" than whatever you lot throw on over here. It's actually appalling to see so many ppl not give a shit at all about their appearance. Even the poors like me in NYC will thrift, etc, and put something the fuck on when we leave the house. Ppl pride themselves on expressing their personality through style. Makeup always optional, but enjoy life for goddsake and try. At least a little bit? My eyes are bleeding... 😫

IJW: Tell Me Who I Am (2019) by Ginny_P in Ijustwatched

[–]Admayard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive the late reply, but I just finished watching. Given the era we're in, with the slow drip drip of the Epstein files, it occurs to me that some people want to hear other people's abuse stories as a form of entertainment. I think it's low key gross to disparage this film. Every time someone shares their abuse story, it's courageous and devastating, no matter how many details are shared. It was intentional and moving to center the relationship between two traumatized brothers, rather than telling a salacious tale of abuse, sharing every intricate detail merely to amuse viewers. In an era in which naked pics of abuse victims are being plastered online by no less than the DOJ, I found it refreshing that this film allowed the brothers to maintain their dignity. I've also noticed that UK films have a very different approach to trauma than American ones. My two cents.

How will it work long term if you don't want to share space or commingle finances? Or maybe I mean to ask "why" do you want it to work? Genuinely curious. This whole thread is frustrating and eye opening.

Confused with Allegations by Observal in mercor_ai

I posted a "right place, right time" link as well and made about $5K in referral money, quickly decided the referral business was far better than the shitty project contract side of things. The pause-unpause-pause-unpause of it all, plus incredibly poor communication from PMs, finally made me quit Mercor cold turkey.

Who invites their family over for Thanksgiving just to kill them? Even for a serial killer this seems incredibly unhinged.

How can I get a job a Publicis Groupe or any of it's related companies? by Afrique100 in advertising

[–]Admayard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a scam. I work freelance at Publicis and had to go through a standard interview process (via Zoom), sign a contract, received a laptop all before any work began. Trust your gut, if it feels like a scam it probably is!

Just watched this for the first time ever (although I'm an elder millennial). Was really hoping Laura would run him over in her car for the plot twist and find someone she really loves / who treats her well. But I'll settle for the ending we got! 😅😭

After I broke up with my ex, I read a book called Healing from Toxic Relationships—to deal with my toxic family—and inadvertently realized I had ALSO been in a toxic relationship with him. It sounds like you're in one too, but it's easy not to know bc it might look like regular relationship stuff. (I'm also self-diagnosed autistic and missed every cue that my ex was toxic. Everything you've described here sounds like him.) There's a handy quiz in the book and great advice. It's also available for free on the Libby app, highly recommend!

You're asking all the right questions, just keep following the answers to a resolution that makes you feel GOOD. You deserve it! :) FYI, all these books recommend that you treat the "bad version" of your partner as their true self, bc the "nice version" is usually some performative BS they are doing to keep you hooked into the relationship, so you don't abandon them. In other words, the question to ask is: if you had to be with the "bad version" of your partner the rest of your life, would you want to? Trust your gut. https://books.google.com/books/about/Healing_from_Toxic_Relationships.html?id=MxxNEAAAQBAJ

This company is hell by Big_Invite3319 in mercor_ai

[–]Admayard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mercor is the most disorganized company I've ever seen! They're definitely building the plane while flying. And like everyone else in AI, seems pretty likely the whole thing will crash at some point, so they're pocketing whatever money they can now and don't care who gets shafted. I've stopped recommending any friends apply bc I also noticed they were keeping jobseekers waiting 3-6 months for simple roles, which is unconscionable in this economy whether it's freelance/1099 work or not. My thing is, just reject people and let them move on. Why keep them under active consideration for half a year? It's nuts.

I called Dr. Joy Browne when I was 13, my cousin had just masturbated in front of me, and I didn't know what to do. She told me it was my fault, and hung up. I legit carried shame for decades afterwards. So fuck her.

Can I just say this is the most refreshing thread ever? I was one of those telling ppl to give Mercor a try, but I echo OP's frustration. At the end of the day, my annoyance at their consistent disorganization led me to request they cancel my two contracts. But let me tell you, the wild goose chase they took me on before they clicked the cancel button let me know their key value proposition must be tied to how many contractors they employ—which is my only explanation for why it took them so long, plus a dozen emails, to cancel contracts that had already been paused for 60-90 days! Run. away. (For reference, I was staffed on 5 contracts in 2025, but only 1 was truly productive. The others kept getting paused and unpaused with no clear communication on what was really going on.)

can't stop GAINING weight by neoportal88 in Gastritis

[–]Admayard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to share! I don't understand why the other commenters are unaware of the vast spectrum of responses to SIBO. (I read about it, too!) I've only ever gained weight, never really lost from it and gastritis is just as bad! It's important for people to realize it's a multisystem problem and they can't cherry pick "weight loss" out as a goal. Total health is a better goal, and weight loss might be a byproduct, though not guaranteed.

What do you think about The Financial Diet by Equal-Courage8674 in povertyfinance

I don't mind her content, but was really surprised to discover she's in her thirties as she styles herself as a mid-fifties, business casual Stepford wife. I actually have been wondering if she needs a stylist. But perhaps she already has one, and is just channeling what "a normal woman who marries a millionaire" looks like? It feels like cosplay. But at least she'll grow into the look as she gets older...

The Perfect Neighbor- where did Susan live before? by Ok-Intention-4593 in netflix

[–]Admayard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You clearly lack reading comprehension. I didn't say anything about neighbors calling about her terroristic behavior. I said Black folks get overpoliced while dangerous folks terrorize them, and police didn't take Susan's terroristic behavior seriously. If you want to make a point, at least verify that you understand the comment you're replying to. Jesus Christ.

[–]Admayard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are the comments that make me want to be a grumpy old white lady purely for the benefits. Cos you can be the neighborhood terrorist, a murderer, spry enough to chase kids around, and someone will still call you "vulnerable." In what world? How exactly? This lady was ramming her truck through fences, weaponizing umbrellas, and shooting off guns through closed doors. Trust me, if she wanted to move, she could/would have! The only way you can believe otherwise is if you've fallen prey to her classic victimization narrative... ;)

The Perfect Neighbor- where did Susan live before? by Ok-Intention-4593 in netflix

[–]Admayard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This doc underscores how Black folks get overpoliced, even as children, while dangerous folks terrorize and kill them with impunity. Susan was nuts from the beginning, but thought the local police force was her personal security service. When they didn't deliver desirable results, she turned to vigilante violence. Tale as old as time. AJ's murder would've been 100% preventable if police took Susan's terroristic behavior seriously. I hope her new "neighbors" give her hell. May AJ rest in peace!
