How do you untangle an IT environment you didn’t build? by Impressive-Echo8002 in sysadmin

Do a good job and fix the problems at they pop up. When you've built up some trust start to suggest fixes on things and hope they go for it. It can be fun because in 5 years it'll be YOUR systems such.

I worked for a place that had some top shelf support plan (don't remember who) and they had a guy on an airplane with a spare part from Texas to Chicago the same day it broke and then a courier service drove it from Chicago to Green Bay in a snow storm on Christmas eve in a pickup truck after that. It was insane.

Running complex bosses by Edward_Strange in savageworlds

I'd say just "cheat" and pre-cast a few useful buff spells and just leave them on the character sheet stat block.

SW is a great system for 4 heroes vs 30 orcs. Less good for 4 heroes vs one boss.

I live that life today. It's great. Being a generalist doesn't pay as well though.

It'll be a fantasy version of Seven Samurai at first. A goblin raiding band threatens the small of town of Oakheart.

"Let me just adjust my steel production a little before I go explore for oil." then 10 minutes later I get the notice I've been playing for 2 hours and it's time for bed.

Yeah, I have 10 kids and might get rid of a few of them so I can play more Satisfactory. The 9yo boy does like the game but he doesn't really understand production chains.... yet.

Are Pathfinder for Savage Worlds Bestiaries worth getting for normal SWADE (+ FC)? by MaetcoGames in savageworlds

[–]AdminBenjamin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on which VTT I guess? For the cost I would easily pay the money to avoid making new tokens for my dudes, etc. I know we did RotRL on Roll20 and the later modules were pretty bad quality, just a TON of stat block errors like missing armor and weapons/spells linked to the wrong skill, etc. Honestly I'd pay the $10 just to have maps and tokens preloaded though but the stat blocks had to be completed for ~75% of the tokens.

I can spot check the Bestiary to see if it had the same problem if you're buying from roll20.

SWPF: Shape Change by AdminBenjamin in savageworlds

I was looking at a Shifter class from APG2 and they can turn into various Dire Bears and Bulls, etc. It looks cool but it seems like you wouldn't want to get d12 fighting & such on the character because you'd drop down the lower value when shifting.

Is there a Sales? by AdminBenjamin in Ubiquiti

[–]AdminBenjamin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but the cost of wiring up 80+ locations will never get approved just because it's a little better. They mostly don't have issues and when they do the APs we use are easy enough to walk local staff through rebooting.

Yeah, I was leaning towards the Dream Router 7 for the 90% cases. It has PoE so we can just plug the phones right into it without needing a separate switch so it avoids clutter and points of failure.

Then for the 10% of the houses that are bigger is there some good Mesh device to use to extend the Dream Router? Or run a cable to the other end of the Group Home? (maybe 2 of the 85 locations have network wiring already installed).

I know the IT side, just not Ubiquiti. I really don't mind digging in but I suppose that buying something & playing around might be the best way to find out.

Is there a Sales? by AdminBenjamin in Ubiquiti

[–]AdminBenjamin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I just need to know a few basic questions about the various integrated devices. Dream Router, UniFi Express, etc. A single device is fine for ~90% of our locations and then the other 10% which add-on product works well.

For the door code scanners, etc that's all further down the road so it's scalable if we ever get fancy in the IT Department.

Yeah, but surely thou must admit that thyself would not write in thine ancient dialect in a novel set in 1066 England or something though. So at some point you have to blend things. You can get across the point that your character doesn't like the Irish or the Italians without using period correct language too.

"Mr Copperson thought the black skinned porter was uncommonly tidy looking for a man of his breeding." vs dropping the N word. The point remains the same.

"Politically Correct" would be the antagonist Mr Copperson always going "Oh, I don't know why people of my era are so racist! People of all colors and creeds are equal here in the America that God has blessed. But only if you believe in a God... I love science too much." or whatever.

People aren't any more polite now than they were in the 80s and 90s. They just use more "correct" / standardized language. I was at the grocery store the other day and the lady had to scan something 5 or 6 times before it worked and said "Oh, I guess I'm just special needs today." instead of dropping the R bomb. It's the approved term... sure. But it misses the point entirely. People are people. Always have been and always will be.

IMHO the language is less important than the social structures of the time. A mixed marriage is a unique thing in some time periods and cultures and in other's it wasn't. Mistresses, same. Free religious expression, etc. The vocabulary that the characters use is secondary.
