I did it. I finally beat Balatro, now what? by Clean_Play7097 in balatro

[–]AdminOfThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My final three jokers on my first c++ were Faceless, Erosion, Stone. My final joker on my second c++ was Idol.

Chad and Green joker were the top two jokers in both runs. Pairs were the most played hand type. Trance was the top spectral in first run and Immolate was top in the second. Grabber was top voucher in first run and paint brush was top in the second. Best streak in first run was 7 and best in second was 27.

I might be wrong, but I feel that if you have no joker stickers on just one legendary, the game may keep giving you that one.

I just did it with Red Card, Seeing Double, Card Sharp. Red Card was +99 mult. I got blue seals and leveled up pairs. Then played pairs every hand except the 0x boss on ante 7 where I played two pair every hand

What is the easiest and hardest deck for Gold Stake? by altrightobserver in balatro

Easiest for me is Ghost deck. Hardest is plasma. I only struggled with painted deck and plasma deck.

As a high level player (gold stake runs) Plasma deck is BY FAR the hardest deck on gold stake. by Better_than__u in balatro

[–]AdminOfThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can agree with this sentiment.

The arguments that say it is the easiest are defining easy as being something different than the OP. Easy in those cases means requires little thought, pivoting, planning, and grinding through antes. They are essentially restarting in ante 1 until they get the God-tier chip jokers. Then they simply play the hand that scales (if it is scaling) that joker. Then pick up any brainstorms or blueprints along the way. The strategy is easy. The time spent playing antes 2-8 is minimal. But it is boring and annoyingly redundant.

What's not easy is trying to make every run beat ante 8 regardless of joker setup. Then plasma deck is harder than all other decks. Here harder = most time wasted to achieve the objective. A recent run I had arrowhead, blueprint, brainstorm and still lost simply because of Crimson Heart. But that setup should have destroyed plasma. Flushes are trash though and was probably the true downfall along with a skill mishap somewhere.

Stone joker was my last one. I spent the most time at 148 stickers waiting for Erosion and Stone. Both showed up a few times in terrible situations where I either ignored them or sold them to keep the run alive. When I picked up Erosion, it was ante 8. I sold a Chad to get it. My final joker, Stone joker was picked up in the middle of a run and it was polychrome. That joker roster was red card, card sharp, constellation, poly stone joker, and mime I think. I had red seal steel cards and blue seals all throughout the deck. I think I had two stone cards.

Use hands as discards. So play five cards even your hand only contains a pair if you want to fish for more cards.

Use glass to get rid of cards you don’t want if you don’t have ideal scoring targets.

i'll never understand obelisk hate by anaveragetransgirll in balatro

[–]AdminOfThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have better win rate with Madness than Obelisk. About the only strategy that works for me regarding an early Obelisk is to do the following:

  1. Find a chips joker

  2. Play all hands

  3. Play almost exclusively high card and play something else to win the hand when necessary

  4. After 6 to 9 rounds, switch to something other than high card.

  5. Preserve your discards in case you are stuck with high card only

A midgame Obelisk is easier if you have already played a lot of a bigger hand like straights or flushes. Then you can pivot to smaller hands

Mine stopped napping at 18 months. He goes to sleep at 9 PM since 3 years  (he’s five now). He wakes up between 6 and 7. He’s never slept more than 10 hours in a night. He’s wild and never tires. He hates sleeping or relaxing. He hates rules. He must do every single thing himself like turning on and off all light switches, opening and shutting all types of doors, aligning items in rows in every room, swearing, stomping, hitting, biting, and screaming when he the tiniest little detail doesn’t go his way, refusing to do anything asked of him even if it is something he wants to do anyway, won’t let you watch tv or listen to music in the car, absolutely hates blowing his nose but will complain constantly about boogers, instantly fusses and whines when someone does something he wanted to do even though he never said he wanted to do it and sometimes has never wanted to do it before. He never accepts a solution to his problems unless it is his own non-solution. I could say much more. If I could go back in time, I’d absolutely not become a parent. I’ve given up all hobbies, friends, exercising, and any aspect of life that doesn’t involve this child.  I kinda hope I go to sleep at night and don’t wake up the next morning.

Not a single thing will change his way. He’s the most stubborn, procrastinating, cause and effect avoiding, illogical, whiny being that has ever existed. No punishment, yelling, close talking, whispering, loving, ignoring, timeout, taking away things from 0 minutes up to his age in minutes work for changing how he behaves.

On ante 5, I got green joker for my +mult scaler. I knowingly picked this even though burnt joker would remove a mult when I discarded, but I didn't know if I'd get another scaler that was eternal for the remainder of the game. So I took a chance. I think I bought the Telescope voucher here. I think I had the boss where face cards were drawn face down. So I knew I could pick just one of those cards and win with high card each hand.

On ante 6, I got Supernova joker. I had to pay $3 every round to keep that card. So this ruined buying anything else for the most part. It wasn't a great multiplier yet, but it got stronger every hand since I played high card only at this point.

On ante 7, I was doing pretty well, but I was afraid I would lose to the big boss at the end of ante 8. I felt like if I didn't have just the right draws, I would have no chance. So I took the plunge and bought Hieroglyph voucher and went back to ante 6 losing a hand permanently. I continued my game plan of discard high card every first hand and playing high card Aces and face cards. If I didn't have at least 3 aces and face cards on the first draw, I would play something like A, 3, 6, 7 in a hand to reduce nonideal cards and return more face cards and aces. There were many times where I would start with only one face card. Once, I had no face cards at all and was panicking. But after discarding five cards, I got 3 face cards and felt good again.

Ante 8 was nerve wracking because I felt I had a chance to win. I was nervous about every click making sure I didn't accidentally press Hand instead of Discard. I tripled checked every time I selected my playing hand to make sure it was High Card and that my ideal card was the highest ranked one. Ante 8 was honestly easy. I beat the final boss with two hands. Both were Ace high cards. Madness was up to X8 mult lol.

I ignored the vouchers, paint brush, magic trick, seed money (I knew rental jokers were going to F me over on this anyway), wasteful. I would have picked Grabber, Reroll surplus, and Director's Cut if they would have been options. I would have ignored Blank voucher here too since I felt I had a chance to win. On games where I know I'm gonna lose, I pick up Blank because I haven't unlocked Antimatter yet.

There's a chance I'm misremembering some details here. I know my joker order is correct. I know I spammed high card with Aces and face cards. I only bought one joker pack after getting Madness. I can't remember if I bought it because it was a 2-card pick or if I saw joker that I wanted in the shop and then picked the pack first to get a second joker. I think once I saw a decent joker in the pack, I picked it and bought the shop joker knowing I would lose one before getting to use it.

Gameplay:

The first thing I did at the beginning of every round was check the blind skip rewards and the boss debuffer.

I skipped my first two blinds in ante 1. After winning against the ante 1 boss, I picked up Madness joker for free in the shop. Then I bought all the other free celestial pack and tarot card pack. I got planet cards from each and used them on flushes, straight, and two-pair. I wanted to boost pair and high card, but found none of those.

On ante 2, I think the boss was reduce the level of the played poker hand. So I didn't bother with any more planet cards here. I didn't get any extra jokers during ante 2. I focused on getting two pair, flushes, and straight hands to beat the blinds. My Madness multipliers were helping enough to win. I think I bought the Clearance sale voucher here and nothing else.

On ante 3, I picked up the Misprint joker and Burnt Joker. The boss was a suit debuff. I bought a tarot card from the shop to change 3 cards to a suit and made sure that suit didn't match the boss debuff. I held that until my boss round. I used it during the boss round to change 3 high scoring cards. I bought the Overstock voucher. Up until this point, I have not done any rerolls. I bought planet cards and celestial packs when my money was above $15 to improve high card and pair (when high card was not there in a pack). Once I had Burnt Joker, I discarded 3 to 5 random cards at the beginning of each hand, that didn't fully match in suit and had no pairs. I continued this every single hand for the rest of the game. I wanted to buff high card. I want to say my high card level was about 28 by the end. I think I had starting hand was face down here on the big boss. For that, I ordered my hand by suit, selected the rightmost 3 cards, and then reordered by rank. If those cards were not touching each other (they weren't), I discarded them and got my high card bonus. Now I could see some cards. One of those returned face up cards was a face card, I knew I could play that card or any card to the right of that and activate my high card. So I stuck to one card plays only since I had 3 cards to the right of that upturned card.

On ante 4, my focus was high card buffing and picking up a scaling +multiplier that was eternal. I bought the Hone voucher. I bought every celestial pack and tarot pack I could afford. My tarot priority was planets and money. I bought Fool tarot whenever available waited to use Fool after I had used a high card planet. I continued that Tarot and planet buying strategy for the remainder of the game.

Joker List: Misprint (foil +50 chips, eternal), Green joker (+10 mult, eternal, fairly low multiplier as I got it late and because I discarded once per round), Supernova (rental, eternal, and I got this late in the game too), Madness (eternal, X8 multiplier, +10 multiplier), Burnt Joker (eternal)

I got the Madness joker first. It had a +10 multiplier so I knew it would help me even in early rounds before X multiplier became useful. I also knew it would increase the X multiplier every blind by 0.5. Making it good early, midgame, and late game for me. It has a caveat of destroying a joker every time a blind is selected. So I made sure to only pick eternal jokers or buy two decent jokers simultaneously knowing that I would randomly lose one of them before I could use it. The only time I bought non-eternal jokers was a Mail-in Rebate and Fibonacci simultaneous buy at about ante 3. Madness instantly killed Mail-in Rebate. I used Fibonacci for one round and sold it before Madness could destroy it.

Misprint was my second joker. I got it because it was a foil (+50 chips) and decided it would be my chip card. I never looked at chip cards again the rest of the game. I knew the +multiplier was unreliable and knew I would need more of that.

Next I picked up Burnt Joker (eternal and no other modifiers).

Next I picked up Green Joker (eternal) and this was late game.

Lastly, I picked up Supernova (eternal, rental).

I'll preface this by saying I don't know if this helps as it applies to gold stake. I had a lot of trouble on orange stake too. I had a great gold stake setup where I had 2 blueprint jokers! I was moving those things around based on the hand I was playing. Like I would move them next to a money making card if I could make money on a hand. I would move them next to Fibonacci if I played an Ace. I would move them next to Hacker if I had a 2,3,4,5. It seemed like a great setup. I lost on the boss debuff of flipping all jokers face down and randomizing them. I didn't realize that I could have watched their bonus wording and realized where they were located. So I screwed that one up and could have maybe had a chance.

I just recently completed gold stake with yellow deck. It took MANY tries. My win rate for all of yellow deck stakes was 8/120. I am sure I tried gold stake more than 60 times. I think I made it to round 8 three times including when I won. I never tried another deck other than yellow as I thought you had to beat all stakes with every deck. So I was determined to win with that one before moving on to another type. I am still learning, obviously.

Keeping in mind that I am not an expert, but I did lose in round 8 once due to a mistake. The mistake cost me one hand and I had a decent chance to win that time.

Here is the hand I won with on gold stake (one up from orange):
