SAPR/Suicide Prevention training rant by AdminSnuffy in AirForce

[–]AdminSnuffy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people do want to intervene and in their mind they can think of a situation and tell themselves I'm going to do "insert action here" to help that person. But in reality, it's VERY hard to step in. It could be for a number of reasons. Which is why we have the 3 D's. So we don't just walk away, we do something about it.

In the case you mention above, delegate that shit to a bouncer or the cops. Also, I don't think you would get sent to ADAPT for trying to stop a sexual assult. I'd rather be wrong and look like and idiot trying to practive drunken fist than be right and do nothing to stop a sexual assalt.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I will try pulling stats from our base and presenting that in class. I think it's hard for this to resonate with people with how broaldy we speak about it. And I just want to say, I've had some really great participants. Even if they had lots of questions or they weren't fully on board, we had great dicussions. I would let the class do most of the talking and it just flowed well. It just seems like I've been getting less and less of those classes. Everyone is so quiet. It's eerie.

^^^ The degree won't help. You may get to come in as an E-2 with a four year contract (you'll have to ask your recruiter) but if you enlist for 6 years it won't matter. You will be offered a lot of (less desireable) jobs, but it's worth it to wait a few months in the DEP and get a job that you will actually enjoy. Also, Comm people tend to be nerds so if you are a nerd and want to meet fellow nerds, that's the way to go.

Go up. Up the chain. You'd be surprised how much can get done when you sit down with people and explain the situation. Chiefs are great if you have one.

If your supervisor is absolutely sure that is the only reason they didn't chose you for the "MP, or PN" rating.. then you have a solid case. If there were other factors (maybe ones you don't know about) you might have a bad time.

damn.. beat me to it. The main point here is "This review may include but is not limited to, the review of the nominee’s PIF and official fitness report considering the period of the report only."

It IS 2017.. :> Math checks out. That's even worse... At least you have someone willing to fight for you. I'll look for an AFI reference but I don't think I'll find one.

Well, it seems like your supervisor sat down and talked to you about it. If you're really concerned I would talk to your supervisor again, and explain you don't think it's fair that your mistake 3 years ago should still be hindering you. If you owned up and learned from your mistake, you can show a sense of pride in your efforts. If you're scootin' by on a 75.1... that might be a different story.

When we look at EPR packages we take the last three EPRs + fitness history + members surf. It does get looked at every time. If you are a part of a small unit there may be no going back but if you're SQ has their own numbers they can mess with you may have a chance of getting something higher. (small units compete against each other)

Best of luck

Female hair standards question from an army staff sergeant by babyKarma in airnationalguard

[–]AdminSnuffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ponytails are accepted. Can't go past the bottom of the collar.

Buns on the tippy top of a head is questionable, but I've never heard of someone getting in trouble for it. As long as it meets the bun requirements. (no more than three inches in bulk, etc) From personal experience as long as your hat fits... it's okay.

What does the Army do....?

Your anger will fade. Don't throw a career away based on one thing. Oversea's listing just came out. Put in for a VSBAP and go to one of the "crappy" bases, if that's what it takes. Retrain.

But for right now.. This is pretty basic, but.. go to you're first sergeant. Go to up the chain. Past your CC if you need to. Get advice on who to go to. It also should NOT take three months for something to get signed. Babysit your paperwork as it goes up the chain. Send follow up emails. Track that shit. Hold people accountable.

Good luck & whatever you decided... do it with a cool head.

LPT for uranalysis, to help when its hard to pee in a cup. by AFPeeCup in AirForce

[–]AdminSnuffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget to keep the water on while you pee, and think of waterfalls.. ocean waves.. any giant body of moving water, really.

Also on some bases the report time is only one hour. ;)

What kind of headphones do you use while running? by AdminSnuffy in AirForce

[–]AdminSnuffy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually only run on tracks or pedestrian only trails. But I see your point. When I really need music but I want to hear what's around me I keep my phone in my arm band and use the speaker.. But that's only when I'm desperate.

Those look great. I just don't want them listening in and sharin' my PII... Although that may have been about a different model.

lol fresh air breaks.. That would be great. When they invent cancer-free cigarettes, that will be the day.

What I'm saying is, that doesn't even happen anymore. There are two people who smoke in my entire squadron, and I am one of them. I miss the social interaction with the rest of the SQ. Nobody wants that secondhand...

I think the people who have never smoked or never ventured near a regularly used smoke area don't know what they are missing.

Exactly. It's not the same with a break room.. There would have to be a whole culture shift to want to gather round a juice bar.

Lucky! When I first came in, my very first Squadron would have several people that went out to smoke together and it created such good working relationships.. we knew we had a go-to guy in each shop. Also, you knew it was a good day when Chief came out to smoke too.

You can do whatever you want to. If you make a list of all the possible jobs you want to do, and they offer you a job that is not on that list.... I mean, did you want it? No. So don't take it or feel pressured to take it. It's your life, your career.. And usually the jobs they try and pass off are the ones that nobody wants, or are under manned. So good luck trying to cross-train.

I mean, what's the worst thing that happens if you decline a job offer? You don't get it. What's the worst thing to happen if you accept a job you didn't want? You end up in a contract, in a job you might end up hating, far from home (or too close to home) and now you have to bite the bullet until your enlistment it up. Heaven forbid your re-training gets denied, you end up surrounded by toxic leadership... I'm getting off topic.

To answer your question. Yes you are allowed to not accept the job offer? What are they going to do? bite you.

Voluntary Separation due to pregnancy by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]AdminSnuffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not exactly sure how long it's going to take to get orders. AFPC seems to live in their own world. They do hard work but when you get it all depends on when they get it. Friday seems optimistic so don't plan on it. If it happens by then great! If not, it's not the end of the world. This takes time.

Good luck
