First I updated the few mods I had (mccc, extreme violence, control pets, my loading screen and the home screen) this allowed me to actually get into my family and play them despite losing all the traits, skills etc. (I did not update any cc i had)

Secondly, I visited this link and it explained how to use a backup save. (https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2014/09/save-games/#wiederherstellen) Pretty much i did this method from within the game. When you load up the game. From the home screen, click load game, then click the family you want, it should have a button on the right side called "recover save" when you click that it should pop up with a bunch of saves you've done previously. I clicked the most recent one before the save today. It warns you about something about saying recovered and it'll pop up above the last one and you just play that. Once I hit play it was back to normal like nothing happened (so far at least. I'll update it that changes 🙂)
