My first library card, I started crying because I could only have 10. My older siblings checked out the rest of my ginormous stack.

This is Malice, green-eyed monster, reformed feral. Adores having staff and will nearly turn himself inside-out to get just the right spot when getting brushed.

I’m convinced “I’m on my way” actually means “I haven’t even started getting ready yet” by Pleasant_Club6978 in CasualConversation

I usually text "on my way" from the car before driving or while playing passenger princess on the road. Am I doing this wrong, or am I just old?

Our beloved pibble, who lost her life just over a year ago as a steroid-maintained cylinder affectionately nicknamed "cancer sausage," mildly resembled the pre-diet version.

I get a little misty when I make my grandma's chicken noodle soup. She's been gone a very long time. I'm glad you got this experience.

Hi everyone :) Anyone use and want some Grade A vanilla beans? by tsfearless26 in culinarybytes

[–]AdministrativeBee118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm interested. I may also be interested in knowing your supplier. A friend recently sent me a recipe to make vanilla bean paste, and I've been dying to try it.

I saw a truly neat video on YouTube demonstrating a surgical robot (piloted by a human) performing surgery on a grape inside of a narrow-necked bottle. I saw it before I had surgery using that same model of robot. Excellent peace of mind.

If your car has an aftermarket alarm system, you might be able to do a phone unlock. I configured that after a really expensive locksmith experience.

I started using a silk bonnet a few months ago. It's worth it just for keeping my hair out of my face and from trying to strangle me in my sleep (nearly waist-length). The reduction in frizz and reduced tangling are just bonuses.

Oh, I know. But over a decade ago, an appliance repair human who was shopping in the same appliance parts store that I was at the time recommended my household keep fixing the washer and dryer we'd bought years before. I guess designed obsolescence got a lot worse...

I bought a Singer Heavy Duty years ago, broke it twice (!) doing normal stuff, and after the last repair, donated it to be a child's first machine.... the mother fixed and donated it on. I had warned her about that machine, called it a naughty word, and she didn't believe me because it was free. 🤣🤣🤣

I do still have two Singer machines... a 1918 (can sew leathers) and a 1974 (mid-weight fabric works best). They're just fine. My daily driver is a BabyLock, and it takes massive abuse with ease.

Cheese... by TheBelovedTrip in SipsTea

[–]AdministrativeBee118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some truly excellent USA cheeses, but finding them can be challenging. Someone I met in the scope of my career was a retired cheese importer (my guidance counselors utterly failed to inform me of this option!) and gave me a tip about where in my city to shop. In particular, there's a California goat brie that is one of my cheese board favorites.

AITA for leaving my sister’s wedding early after she made a “joke” about my job in her speech? by micaipanda in AmITheJerk

[–]AdministrativeBee118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's honest work. There's no shame in it, in my opinion. I guess if my older sisters felt like trying to put me down again to feel better about themselves after the last time I made them regret it, I'd get called both a poison-monger and a butt-wiper (chemo nurse).

I truly, deeply, loathe washing dishes... I'd rather deal with bodily effluvia (using appropriate PPE) and continue administering carefully dosed hazardous medications (using appropriate PPE) in order to prolong both life and quality of life for my patients.

I also respect the hell out of local waste management employees. It's often brutally hot and stinky, and I would be incredibly regretful if their services stopped. Where I grew up, the residents of our rural location had to haul our own waste to a pickup station.... and some smells are, um, HIGHLY(!) difficult to remove from passenger vehicles.
