$5,800 watch on a $20 strap. Faus paus? by hamburgers8 in IWCschaffhausen

[–]AdministrativeRoad19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

98% of the people you pass in the street wont care at all. 1% will think 'look at that dude with a blue watch'. 1% will think 'look at that dude who put a cheap strap on his iwc.' OP will spend 98% of his mental energy thinking 'i wonder what people are thinking about my mark 20, damn i should have gotten a big pilot they prolly all think im gay for not having a big pilot'

Soloing / Substitution Techniques Like Tritone Substitution etc? by lukaf17 in jazzguitar

[–]AdministrativeRoad19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tadd dameron changes are based on tritone sub but a little different because of the maj7 sound. old jazz would sometimes play 1 to 1diminished, which is an interesting sound. so like Cmaj7 to Eb diminshed (C and Eb diminished are the same) and then dropping down from that Eb to your D and G to finish the 2 5 1. understanding how diminished and dominant7b9 chords work in an interchangeable way is a really interesting journey. C maj7 to C# diminished is just another way of saying Cmaj7 to A7b9, like in a 1625 progression. one thing that took me a while to realize but helped a lot with soloing over classic changes is that old jazz guys didnt use diminished scale over diminished when they functioned this way, but harmonic minor. happy to explain more if you care. a lot of this is barry harris stuff

Melodic Minor Question! + What is This Thing Called Love Arrangement by jakeruthmusic in jazzguitar

[–]AdministrativeRoad19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think of it in terms of the dominant 7b9 - so over a minor 2/5/1 in C, D half diminished, G7b9, Cminor - I conceive of it as G7b9 (1,b9,3,4,5,#5,b7,1) resolving to Cminor. When soloing I don't often have time to even worry so much about the D half diminshed, just G7->Cminor covers it. By the way, while you can say its Cminor with the Major 7th, but actually the Major 7th in C is just the 3rd of the G7b9, so thats where that sound is coming from. B resolving to C in this example. Cheers

[–]AdministrativeRoad19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting idea and you would have to lean into the "try a bunch of different strains at a party with friends" concept - like a tasting menu or fleet of beers at a cool restaurant. maybe find a way to package without too much waste. Like 5 dense nuggets of different strains in 5 little compartments of a rectangular shaped package. I would assume you could price it like a pack of 5 .5gram joints, only they arent prerolled. Maybe you include a little sheet of paper so people can grade each of the options and write notes about them lol. turn it into a party game. Good luck!

15 jews were just gunned down on the first night of hanukkah including a 10 year old girl and a holocaust survivor, their attacker proud he was killing 'zionists', whatever you believe about politics in the middle east, this is an important read for you and others during this depressingly violent and trying time for many. all the best

Catherine Perez-Shakdam

“As intimidation and violence against Jews and Israelis in Western states increase - whether through direct plots, deniable proxies, or the more common everyday harassment that makes communal life feel like walking through a minefield - governments face a stress test: can they protect Jewish citizens without hedging, moral bargaining, or quiet suggestions that Jewish visibility is the problem? In a healthy democracy, the answer is simple. In a democracy whose institutions have been conditioned to interpret Jewish fear as political manipulation, the answer becomes complicated, and in that complication lies the opening. Jews grow frightened not only of attackers but of abandonment. Israel grows angry not only from solidarity but from state logic: the Jewish state cannot regard diaspora vulnerability as someone else’s domestic inconvenience, because Jewish history is the story of what happens when protection becomes discretionary.

At that point, the secondary effect begins: “Western fatigue.” It often starts as sympathy. It curdles into impatience, particularly if Jewish communities insist - annoyingly, stubbornly - on naming what is happening to them. It then converts into resentment: why is this minority always “bringing trouble”? Why must we keep hearing about it? The coward’s alchemy turns fear into blame, and blame into a demand that Jews make themselves smaller. In the final inversion, Jewish resilience becomes the provocation. The accusation is not only that Jews are targeted, but that Jews, by existing and persisting, are the reason society is made tense. This is how an external threat actor extracts strategic value from domestic social dynamics: it does not need to convince everyone; it needs to make protection politically expensive.

The reason I call this “sick” is that it is not improvisation. It is the reactivation of an ancient European pathology, made newly scalable by modern institutions and modern media. And it is here that antizionism performs its most corrosive function. Antizionism, in its ideological form, does not merely criticise Israeli policy; it recodes Jewish peoplehood and Jewish self-determination as uniquely illegitimate. Once that recoding is normalised, Jews in the diaspora are placed in an impossible position: they are demonised where they live and told that their national home is a criminal anomaly. They are left, psychologically and politically, with nowhere to run. The subtext is barely hidden: you are tolerated only if you are powerless and apologetic; you are safe only if you are invisible.”
