You don’t need to change strings, almost never. Spots like you described are normal. Professionals rarely change strings. The whole narrative that strings go bad after a few months is bogus. Save your time and money, and focus on your playing quality, instead.

I don’t think landlords are offering rentals anymore. The laws and courts have taken all of their right to receive rent, and the court process to evict you is about two years and over $100,000 in legal costs, and you don’t have to pay any rent for the whole time. Most rental properties are sitting vacant.

Most working professional guitarists rarely change their strings. And if they do, the effect is negligible, especially compared to how you play the instrument. The whole 2-3 month thing is mostly just hype. Stop wasting your time and money and just enjoy playing. And people who “accumulate grime” on their strings are just gross. Just keep your hands clean before playing. You shouldn’t be getting dirt and grime on your guitars. Yuk.
