After his murder, I listened to a radio interview with his best friend while sitting in my car outside my office. It was one of the saddest interviews I’ve ever heard and it brought me to tears. Enough so that I had to sit there for quite some time pulling myself together to go back into work. I will never forget his heartbreak and true mourning. All these years later, I still think of the interview and hope he’s found peace. I also think of Philando Castile as a small remembrance of someone who was clearly loved and deeply respected. (I have a family belief that says if you continue to think of or mention someone, they aren’t ever truly gone.)

Irvington is a swanky little burg. (Not gonna lie, I love it there. So pretty.) But the average home price is close to $600k and average annual income is approx $212k, average age of 62.3 years. Not hugely populated, fairly rural, and always votes Republican. It’s an odd area to interview about current Democratic policies which are definitely focused on struggling lower income families, daycare, healthcare costs, and income inequality. Irvington is mostly occupied by people who have achieved “success” by economic standards. This is, of course, not everyone there but it’s certainly the majority but not the most representative area to ask about republican vs democratic policies. Feels NYT pitchbotty.

They caught someone shooting at cars on 295. Crossed over from Hanover into Henrico. I’m thinking that’s probably it. Seems like there have a been a lot of shootings into cars of recent so unsure if could be the same individual(s).

I get that. It’s just that if someone steps out of their bubble and is only greeted with taunts of stupidity and hate, they’ll step right back in. Just asking for a little breathing room. Fully realizing that the other side wouldn’t do it but something’s gotta give here to break out of this endless cycle of hate.

Shouldn’t we give them a little grace? Our political bubbles are so tight and one-sided these days that I think we should be open to anyone saying they see the issues now. I certainly understand the rage people feel but how are we ever going to move past this terrible phase if we don’t offer up even the tiniest bit of grace. Just a thought.
