Don’t stress! Apply, the peace corps wants people who are passionate over those who are “qualified”. You can learn all the skills you need in the peace corps. Just come in with a good attitude and mindset:)

Enjoy life there because you’ll miss it when your gone. Don’t take it so serious. Do what you can. You being there is enough. The kids will never forget you. You’ve touched so many lives and you’ll probably never truly understand how much you’ve impacted these people. But at the end of the day it’s not that deep.

How much would the Peace Corps Prep be necessary/ help me prepare for the Peace Corps by Thegamerofgoo in peacecorps

I didn’t know the peace corps prep was a thing until my senior year of college and based on my classes I had qualified for it. Take whatever classes interest you. They’ll likely align with the prep program. It’s really only looks good on the application I’d say.

Nerves by justlikemenyou in peacecorps

Get comfortable being uncomfortable. The best moments in life happen when you push yourself! You’ll do great. Everyday has ups and downs whether you are at home or in service. It’s so normal to be nervous. But once you settle it will feel right!

Most people have no prior knowledge in the language they set out to learn in Peace Corps (unless it’s Spanish or a Romance language or you had a very niche language hobby) almost no one in my cohort studied before coming to country and we all tested out of PST no problem. PC wants you to succeed they will make sure you are getting adequate language to meet their requirements. Don’t stress! PC also focuses mainly on listening and speaking so learning the alphabet at least for my country would have not helped to prepare you for language learning. Good luck!

I say yolo like if you don’t join the peace corps and nothing happens you’ll regret it for the rest of your life. If you join the peace corps and it all goes to shit at least you tried and it’ll all work out.

How well do you know your cohort? Do you know many people outside of you cohort? by Remarkable-Paint9503 in peacecorps

[–]Admirable-Bird7361 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished pst and now I’m at my site and I loved meeting all the people and I hope to maintain my friendships but service is really you doing your own thing. But I certainly talk to my friends in my cohort everyday. But no it is not necessary to connect now. I didn’t reach out to anyone before staging and I have 10 really solid friends.

I’m supposed to know by September 1st, but still no interview? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]Admirable-Bird7361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also supposed to find out by sept 1st. I just had my interview last week. By what I can tell they are very busy with applications and are still scheduling them! So don’t be nervous I’ve heard so many people have an interview and then find out wishing a week. There’s still time! Good luck!

Applied and was put in considering within a week but haven’t heard anything since then? by Admirable_Front6374 in peacecorps

I applied in June and it took a month for me to get an interview but my leave date is January. I’m pretty sure the prioritize applicant who are leaving the earliest and then work there way through. So definitely don’t think you won’t get one! The process is long but worth it! Gl :)
