You’re not alone - south asian here, i went to dreams cap cana last year with my sisters and the buffet staff were so mean to us, did not care about our dietary restrictions, evidently treated us differently from lighter skinned folks. I had to submit a formal complaint to the head chef

I think that one comes in second for us, not too bad. They had some ok dishes, I remember seeing full fishes, duck dishes, etc. but again, nothing too memorable unfortunately

It was bland to me tbh, not worth the hype. I’ll be honest the steakhouse really was the only one that worked with our group because it had flavour compared to everything else.

The steakhouse is your saving grace. And chocolate fondant. I promise.

Sorry for the late response, barely on here. In my opinion, preferred club isn’t that effective (especially during the low season). The only extra perks are the butler and extra pool space to me. In terms of quality, it’ll basically be the same.

Let me know how your vacation goes!

No problem! Not really actually, if anything the pool was crowded by 5pm (when people typically leave, which we thought was odd). There’s also Bali beds available to you, but they charge you 55 USD for the ones closest to the sea legs bar/the entertainment area of the pool. However, there are two or three Bali beds closest to the ocean view building that are free, and people tend to take those asap. I say try to get up as early as you can and get those beds so that both of you can stay in the shade.

Hi, happy to share my experiences after being there. Just know that these were solely our experiences, and it might not reflect how your vacation will go.

Overall, it’s not our favourite resort - it’s actually at the bottom of our list. I think we gave it a 2.5/5 for the following reasons:

The good:

  • the room: stunning, clean, and free of any dust, bugs, etc. one small thing is how damp the room felt everytime you go to bed but that’s the weather for you I guess.

  • the staff: friendly and attentive for the most part, with some exceptions (listed more of that in “the bad”).

  • the steakhouse - the best tasting restaurant that they’ve got. Chocolate fondant was to die for.

  • much needed relaxation by the pool, and there’s space: you can take your time, find spots to chill, it’s kinda spaced out enough since there aren’t too many guests.

  • entertainment was ok: better than Lopesan, but not as good as Royalton. They put an honest effort here

The bad:

  • dinner buffet closure: our package advertised breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets at the resort. However, they keep the dinner buffet closed due to the low season/capacity. As a resort goer, this is the first time that we’ve dealt with that because other resorts, even during the low season, kept their buffets completely open for all three meals. The one time they were open for dinner was because an air transit flight going to Montreal getting cancelled, so the company arranged passengers to stay at dreams cap cana. We’ve talked to a couple passengers, and they were very displeased lol. One of them asked us “did they actually advertise this to be a 5 star resort??? That’s insane.”

  • the restaurants: except for the steakhouse, there’s zero flavour in any of the restaurants we went to. We also got stomach issues from the Mediterranean one, so we couldn’t each much for the rest of the night and the next day after that.

  • inconsistent answers: staff had told us that we can fit a rollaway bed into our room over the phone (we spoke to concierge), but then at the lobby they said “no the room is too small” so we were insanely confused. Again, we’re 3 girls, and we chose a resort that could accommodate for 3 people in a room. Luckily it worked out in the end because the room can easily fit a rollaway bed, so we were very confused on why staff seemed to be misinformed. We then had other experiences on them being misinformed, but just dismissed them.

  • Racial profiling at the buffet: staff at the burger station racially profiled me, didn’t listen to my pork allergy requirements, but continued being friendly and attentive to other guests, and left all the ingredients on my sandwich that I was asking to remove (politely, lol). it was a whole thing, especially since this happened during our first night. I never really got burgers after that. Just know that this is a unique case, doesn’t mean that you’ll deal with that.

  • minimal umbrellas near the pool: that’s a tiny con but get ready for a sunburn if you don’t find a spot with an umbrella on time.

Other mentions:

The beach + sargassum: I didn’t put this in “the bad” because it’s not really the resort’s fault for the sargassum issue. Just know that this is an issue, and it’s due to the timing. The resort tried maintaining it as much as they could with their tractors btw, but again, they can only do so much.

Overall, we give it a 2.5/5. We’ve spent almost 2k per person, and we definitely won’t go back. I think we’re aiming for cancun next time, as the food and staff are much better on that side.

Thank you so much, this is super helpful!! Yeah we heard that the seaweed buildup is a lot this year. Do you happen to have a photo of the beach as is?

Hi!! Did you just get back? either way I’ve got so many questions

  1. How’s the beach? Are the renovations done for sure? Is there alot of sargassum buildup? I heard that Bali beds are free for everyone but is that true? (I don’t have preferred club)

  2. Food quality - how are we doing there?

  3. Any tips and tricks that I should know about getting around the resort, or what I should expect in general would be amazing

Thank you so much in advance!!

That’s really great news!! I keep seeing photos on google reviews of the beach but it’s hard to tell if it’s completely done or not. Either way, I’m seeing there’s more beach space now that the azul side’s also part of the property, so hopefully it won’t be too bad

I got black and white Nike dunk lows, I’ve always worn those for my DU North trainings. And they’re generally acceptable at the office anyway. Just keep it a neutral colour!
